(Reuters) -Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said early on Tuesday that Russian air defences had downed two Ukrainian drones heading for the city overnight.
Sobyanin, writing on the Telegram messaging app, said specialists were examining the debris of at least one drone downed after midnight.
The mayor said a third drone targeting the capital had been repelled earlier in the evening.
Russia's defence ministry reported that air defence units had destroyed nine drones in a 90-minute period before midnight, including nine over the border regions of Kursk and Bryansk.
Ukraine has launched drone attacks on a wide range of targets in recent months, some a long distance from the Ukrainian border.
In one attack this month, dubbed "Operation Spider's Web," Ukrainian drones targeted long-range military aircraft at a number of Russian bases.
In recent months, Russia has stepped up mass drone attacks against Ukrainian cities. Waves of Russian drones and missiles swarming in and around Kyiv killed 10 people overnight on Sunday.

Salleh: Focus on ideas, not insults, in state election

Published on: Tuesday, June 24, 2025 Published on: Tue, Jun 24, 2025 Text Size: KOTA KINABALU: As the 17th Sabah state election draws near, former Chief Minister Datuk Seri Salleh Said Keruak has called for a more respectful and idea-driven political campaign. 'Politics should not be about attacking individuals, it's about providing solutions,' he stated in a recent Facebook post. The Usukan assemblyman stressed that success shouldn't come from undermining others but through clear strategies, sound ideas, and a proven record of service. 'Personal attacks and emotional arguments only divide us and distract from the real issues,' he said. Salleh urged for a more mature political discourse, grounded in professionalism and sincerity. 'We can differ in opinion, but if we stay respectful, we can still work towards the same goal: a better future for Sabah and Malaysia," he said. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? GRS-PH seat talks ongoing, says Gagasan Rakyat VP

Published on: Tuesday, June 24, 2025 Published on: Tue, Jun 24, 2025 Text Size: SANDAKAN: Seat distribution between Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) and Pakatan Harapan (PH) is still under discussion and has yet to be finalised, said Gagasan Rakyat Vice President Datuk Masiung Banah. He noted that some GRS component parties have not submitted their proposed list of candidates. "The matter will be detailed in the upcoming GRS-PH Presidential Council meeting," he said after officiating the Gagasan Rakyat Gum-Gum Division Annual General Meeting. Masiung clarified that while he's not directly involved in GRS meetings, updates are usually communicated by the Gagasan Rakyat president, who also leads GRS. "Seat allocation is still being negotiated. However, GRS under the Gagasan Rakyat banner should contest at least 53 seats, while PH will likely contest the remaining 20," he stated. He urged party grassroots to respect the decisions of the Presidential Council, as it serves as the decision-making body within GRS. Advertisement Masiung also observed that current voter sentiment favours local parties but stressed that cooperation with PH remains vital due to its alignment with the Prime Minister. Over 1,500 delegates and observers attended the meeting led by division chief Datuk Juslie Ajirol and deputy Datuk Jaffari Waliam. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Ukraine says Russian drone attack kills boy, two adults in Sumy

(Reuters) -A Russian drone attack on a village in the Sumy area overnight killed an 8-year-old boy and two adults and injured another three people, the military administration of the region in northeast Ukraine said early on Tuesday. "The strike took the lives of people from different families," the administration said on the Telegram messaging app. "They all lived on the same street. They went to sleep in their homes. But Russian drones interrupted their sleep - forever." The full scale of the overnight attack on the region was not immediately clear. Reuters could not independently verify the report. There was no immediate comment from Russia. Both sides deny targeting civilians in their attacks, but thousands of civilians have died in the war that Russia started with thefull-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
