ONMT Launches Roadshow to Promote Morocco as Top Destination for North American Tourists

Morocco World08-04-2025

Morocco's Tourism Office (ONMT) is increasing efforts to promote the country's tourism assets worldwide, including for North American travelers.
The tourism office issued a new statement today, announcing a major roadshow with the goal of promoting Morocco as a top destination for North American travel professionals.
'It's a bold charm operation,' ONMT said, noting that it is launching the initiative on North American soil, including Toronto, Boston, and Chicago, with the three destinations hosting a roadshow from April 7-10.
'The goal? Turn curiosity into desire, and desire into business,' ONMT said in the press release, noting that the major roadshow includes workshops to present an inspiring, warm, and attractive Morocco to tour operators and travel agents from the three major cities.
'Through carefully curated immersive experiences, North American professionals will be invited to live Morocco: its atmosphere, cuisine, hospitality, craftsmanship, and culture will all be showcased to spark emotions and desires,' ONMT said in its statement.
ONMT said its roadshow comes as the tourism office is strengthening cooperation to increase air routes, establishing connections between American destinations and primary tourist destinations like Marrakech.
The air routes include Montreal-Marrakech with Air Transat, New York-Marrakech with United Airlines, and most recently, Atlanta-Marrakech with Delta Airlines.
'These routes complement Royal Air Maroc's traditional connections: Casablanca-New York, Casablanca-Washington, Casablanca-Miami, and Casablanca-Montreal.
ONMT launched a series of similar initiatives to promote Morocco's tourism assets.
The latest initiative was announced earlier this month to promote the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) as part of the preparatory campaign for the tournament that will take place in the North African country later this year.
The office also organized last week a Pan-Africa workshop to boost tourism across Africa.
The symposium brought together tourism representatives, experts, and major players from the hotel and airline industries. Tags: ONMTTourism in Morocco

Five Moroccan Universities Among Top 2,000

Rabat – The Center for World University Rankings (CWUR) has placed Mohammed V University in Rabat among the top 5 percent of universities worldwide, securing the top national position for the sixth consecutive year. According to the CWUR's latest 'Top 2000 Universities in the World' ranking, only 2,000 out of 21,462 global higher education institutions were included in this elite list—among them five Moroccan universities. Alongside Mohammed V University in Rabat, the four others are Cadi Ayyad University in Marrakech, Hassan II University of Casablanca, Mohammed I University in Oujda, and Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah University in Fez– showcasing Morocco's growing prominence in international higher education. Mohammed V University achieved notable rankings both on a regional and international level: 13th among the top 66 universities in the Arab world, 15th among the top 63 universities in Africa, and 992nd globally—placing it within the top 4.7 percent worldwide. In research quality, the university ranked 947th globally, underscoring the strength and impact of its scientific contributions. These international accolades reinforce Mohammed V University's strategic standing in Rabat and its unwavering commitment to academic excellence, cutting-edge research, and openness to both national and global communities. This accomplishment also reflects the university's continuous progress, climbing 15 places compared to last year's ranking. CWUR's ranking methodology is based on four key indicators: quality of scientific research (40%), quality of academic training provided to students (25%), professional success of graduates holding leadership roles in major global companies (25%), and the academic reputation of faculty recognized with prestigious scientific awards (10%). The ranking is based on data from the international scientific database 'Web of Science,' which monitors publications, citations, and journal quality over the past ten years. The top three positions this year were claimed by American institutions Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Stanford University, followed by England's University of Cambridge and University of Oxford in fourth and fifth place, respectively.

TGCC, SGTM Win $320 Million Deal for Casablanca's Grand Stadium

Rabat – Moroccan construction giants TGCC and SGTM were awarded the second lot of the Grand Stade Hassan II project in Casablanca, a major infrastructure undertaking planned for Benslimane. The deal, reportedly valued at MAD 3.2 billion ($320 million), comes after the tender process closed on June 10. The two companies, which submitted the only bid, met all the technical and financial conditions required for this stage of the project. The scope of work includes heavy construction, waterproofing, steel framework, interior finishes, and carpentry. The stadium, described as a strategic national investment, shows Morocco's broader ambitions in sports infrastructure as the country prepares to co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup. The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) laid out a timeline that targets December 2027 for completion. Morocco is pulling out all the stops as it prepares to co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal. From massive stadium construction to sweeping infrastructure revamps, the North African country is racing ahead to match international standards and deliver a smooth experience to teams and fans. Yet, this ambitious push comes at a time of looming economic worries, which does not fail to raise questions about how much more the country can stretch. While the effort signals determination and national pride, it also reveals the high stakes Morocco faces in balancing aspirations and domestic realities.

US Trade Commission launches second review in Morocco phosphate fertilizer case

The U.S. International Trade Commission (USITC) has announced it will conduct a second court-ordered remand review in the countervailing duty case involving phosphate fertilizer imports from Morocco, reads a Federal Register document published on Tuesday. This follows an April 22, 2025 ruling by the U.S. Court of International Trade, which again asked the Commission to better justify its finding that Moroccan and Russian imports harmed the U.S. domestic industry. The case dates back to March 2021, when the USITC first ruled that phosphate fertilizers from Morocco and Russia materially injured American producers. Morocco's OCP Group challenged the decision in court. Although the Commission reaffirmed its findings in January 2024 after a first remand, the court has now ordered a second review, with no new evidence allowed. Only parties that participated in both the original investigation and the appeal, including OCP, may submit written comments. The deadline for submissions is June 20, 2025.
