ONMT Seeks to Boost Morocco's Presence in Chinese Tourism Market

Rabat – Morocco's Tourism Office (ONMT) is keen to secure a stronger presence in the Chinese market, which presents key opportunities for the Moroccan tourism sector. The office announced its participation in the 2025 ITB China, which is taking place at the Shanghai World Exhibition between May 27 and 29. The office's goal is to promote Morocco as a top destination for Chinese travelers, ONMT said, noting that this market is a priority within its international expansion strategy. 'At ITB China, we are here to strengthen our relationships with Chinese tourism operators and co-create a new growth dynamic by capitalizing on Morocco's unique appeal and the new air connectivity being developed,' the statement quoted ONMT General Director Achraf Fayda as saying. Morocco is present at the exhibition with a stand of over 300 square meters, taking part in the exhibition alongside more than 600 international exhibitors from 80 countries. ONMT has stressed the importance of the Chinese travel market, which witnessed a spectacular recovery with 130 million outbound travelers in 2024. This number is expected to reach 155 million in 2025, according to UN Tourism. ONMT highlighted Morocco's active presence at the event by announcing the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with China's largest online travel agency The partnership spans three years, starting spring 2025, with the aim of achieving an ambitious target of 1.15 million overnight stays by Chinese tourists in Morocco by 2028. The partnership also focuses on enhancing Morocco's tourism appeal, including in related markets like Japan and Korea. ONMT is also planning other partnerships with major players in the Chinese market, like Fliggy, CITS, UTS, and Shanghai Youpai International Travel. 'These agreements particularly target key source markets like Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou, with a global goal of 100,000 additional overnight stays,' ONMT concluded. Morocco welcomed 17.4 million tourists last year, and now aspires to attract more than 26 million tourists by 2030. ONMT has been expanding efforts to support this goal by launching several campaigns, aiming to attract tourists from different markets. The tourism sector is one of the main contributors to the country's economy. The Exchange Office said in February this year that travel revenues reached $11.1 billion in 2024, showing a growth of 7.5% compared to a year earlier.

ONMT Launches New Communication Campaign to Promote Local Tourism

Rabat – Morocco's Tourism Office (ONMT) has announced the launch of a new communication campaign, saying the move targets Moroccans around the world to encourage them to explore the country's domestic tourism assets. The campaign is a renewed commitment as part of the 'Ntla9aw fbladna' or 'Let's meet in our country,' ONMT said in a statement today, highlighting the country's tourism attractions. It added that the campaign's goal is to engage Moroccan citizens in a 'dynamic of discovery or rediscovery' of their territory. The campaign includes two advertising videos, embodying the initiative's ambition. One of the films explores the Atlantic and the Mediterranean coasts, highlighting swimming, paragliding, fishing, horseback riding, and family outings. The second advertising film includes a focus on nature and adventure, as well as Amazigh hospitality, culinary, and outdoor thrills. '' Ntla9aw fbladka' aims to enhance the appeal of Morocco as a destination in all its diversity, representing all 12 regions of the Kingdom,' ONMT said, noting that the two advertising films have already received extremely positive feedback. For ONMT, the campaign promotes Morocco as a prized destination for travel and the place to be for iconic, unforgettable memories, emotions, and experiences. Beyond local tourism, Morocco has been welcoming millions of tourists year-round. The country welcomed 5.7 million tourists in the first four months of this year alone, representing a 23% increase compared to the same period in 2024. In 2024, Morocco welcomed over 17 million tourists. And as it prepares to host a number of prestigious international events, including this year's Africa Cup of Nations and the 2030 FIFA World Cup, the country's goal is to welcome more than 26 million visitors by 2030. ONMT Launches Roadshow to Promote Morocco as Top Destination for North American Tourists

Morocco's Tourism Office (ONMT) is increasing efforts to promote the country's tourism assets worldwide, including for North American travelers. The tourism office issued a new statement today, announcing a major roadshow with the goal of promoting Morocco as a top destination for North American travel professionals. 'It's a bold charm operation,' ONMT said, noting that it is launching the initiative on North American soil, including Toronto, Boston, and Chicago, with the three destinations hosting a roadshow from April 7-10. 'The goal? Turn curiosity into desire, and desire into business,' ONMT said in the press release, noting that the major roadshow includes workshops to present an inspiring, warm, and attractive Morocco to tour operators and travel agents from the three major cities. 'Through carefully curated immersive experiences, North American professionals will be invited to live Morocco: its atmosphere, cuisine, hospitality, craftsmanship, and culture will all be showcased to spark emotions and desires,' ONMT said in its statement. ONMT said its roadshow comes as the tourism office is strengthening cooperation to increase air routes, establishing connections between American destinations and primary tourist destinations like Marrakech. The air routes include Montreal-Marrakech with Air Transat, New York-Marrakech with United Airlines, and most recently, Atlanta-Marrakech with Delta Airlines. 'These routes complement Royal Air Maroc's traditional connections: Casablanca-New York, Casablanca-Washington, Casablanca-Miami, and Casablanca-Montreal. ONMT launched a series of similar initiatives to promote Morocco's tourism assets. The latest initiative was announced earlier this month to promote the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) as part of the preparatory campaign for the tournament that will take place in the North African country later this year. The office also organized last week a Pan-Africa workshop to boost tourism across Africa. The symposium brought together tourism representatives, experts, and major players from the hotel and airline industries. Tags: ONMTTourism in Morocco

Morocco Aims to Quadruple Italian Tourism as Welcome Travel Group Convention Opens

Rabat — Morocco's tourism officials launched an ambitious growth strategy during the Welcome Travel Group convention that began Saturday in Bouznika. The event, hosted by Morocco's Tourism Office (ONMT), brought together key Italian tour operators and Moroccan tourism leaders. ONMT's Director General director Achraf Fayda shed light on Morocco's position as Africa's top tourism destination with 17.4 million visitors last year, mentioning the untapped potential in the Italian market. 'Last year, we welcomed less than one million Italian visitors, half of whom were Moroccans living in Italy,' he said, noting that the sector is ambitious 'to multiply this figure by two, three, or even four times.' In 2024, Morocco welcomed over 900,000 Italian tourists, making Italy among the largest outbound markets for tourists to the country, alongside France, Spain, the UK, and Germany. The Moroccan government has committed over one billion euros in public tourism investments over the next decade, not counting private sector funding. 'Morocco is transforming six cities hosting the 2030 World Cup, with half a billion euros allocated to each,' Fayda explained. Royal Air Maroc's Commercial Director Ilham Kazzini outlined the airline's expansion plans, targeting growth from 60 aircraft to 130 by 2030. 'We'll be ready for the World Cup,' she assured. Kazzini announced new direct routes between Morocco and Italy, including Marrakech-Milan in September, plus flights to Rome and Bologna. She also recalled a recent code-sharing agreement with ITA Airways, inviting the Italian carrier to develop more connections to Morocco, given the 'enormous potential' between both countries. CEO of TRA Consulting and economist at Milan-Bicocca University Andrea Giuricin delivered a presentation on his analysis of post-Covid global tourism, noting that 'the sector recovered faster than expected, surpassing 2019 levels by 2023.' Meanwhile, Luigi Stefanelli, the vice president of global sales for Costa Cruises introduced innovations in excursion offerings with new categorization tailored to different traveler profiles. 'We've completely redesigned our excursion program to make it more understandable for customers and easier for our partners to explain,' he said. This convention, hosting Italy's largest travel agency network under ONMT's leadership, demonstrates Morocco's commitment to strengthening its position in the Mediterranean tourism market. The country aims to diversify its tourism source markets, particularly ahead of co-hosting the 2030 FIFA World Cup with Spain and Portugal. Tags: Italy tourismMoroccoONMTTourism

ONMT Gears Up to Promote AFCON 2025 Morocco

Rabat – Morocco's Tourism Office (ONMT) is mobilizing efforts to promote the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) as part of the preparatory campaign for the tournament that will take place in the North African country later this year. 'The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, set to take place in Morocco, is more than just a sporting event,' ONMT said in a press release, announcing a mega fam trip from April 2-6 to promote the tournament through different activities, including two pan-African workshops connecting Moroccan tourism operators with their counterparts across the continent. ONMT sees AFCON as a unique showcase for Morocco's tourism, as the country will welcome teams, fans, and media from across Africa and beyond. The tourism office aims to seize this opportunity to shed light on the country's cultural heritage, diverse landscapes, and infrastructure. As part of its efforts, ONMT will launch a strategy that will include a fam trip for African tourism operators from different countries like Senegal, Cote d'Ivoire, Nigeria, Mali, Ghana, Gabon, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Burkina Faso, Benin, Equatorial Guinea, Angola, and Cameroon. The trip will include workshops through which ONMT aims to facilitate business-to-business meetings between African travel agents, professionals in the tourism industry, and tour operators to create appealing packages for AFCON. The packages are set to be tailored to showcase Morocco's tourism offerings, commercial opportunities, among others. ONMT also announced a roadshow in Europe, targeting countries with significant African communities to connect Moroccan tourism operators with travel agencies specializing in African destinations in Europe. 'ONMT seeks to turn this major event into an exceptional global showcase for Morocco,' the statement said, noting that the aim is to position Morocco as a leading football destination and enhance its global image far beyond the continent.
