Iran-Israel conflict top updates: Meta rejects Tehran's claims on location tracking
United States-based technology company Meta on Wednesday said it does not ' track the precise location ' of the users of its messaging platform WhatsApp, reported CBS News.
Earlier in the day, Iran reportedly asked its citizens to stop using WhatsApp, Telegram and other 'location-based applications', accusing them of being Israel's 'main methods to identify and target individuals'.
This came against the backdrop of the conflict between Israel and Iran entering its sixth day. The countries have launched fresh attacks on each other.

Meta, the parent company of Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram, said on Tuesday that the ' false reports ' from Iran will be an excuse for its services to be blocked in the country 'at a time when people need them the most'. It stated that all of the messages sent via WhatsApp are 'end-to-end encrypted meaning no-one except the sender and recipient has access to those messages, not even WhatsApp'. 'We do not provide bulk information to any government,' the tech firm said.
The statement came after the Islamic Republic News Agency urged citizens to deactivate or delete their WhatsApp accounts because the 'Zionist regime is using citizens' information to harm us', Al Jazeera reported.
Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said his nation would never surrender as demanded by United States President Donald Trump. A day earlier, Trump had demanded Iran's 'unconditional' surrender amid its conflict with Israel. The US president also claimed that Khamenei was in hiding and that Washington knew about his whereabouts. In a speech read on state television on Wednesday, Khamenei said: 'America should know that any military intervention will undoubtedly result in irreparable damage.'
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov warned that direct US military assistance to Israel could radically destabilise the situation in West Asia, Reuters reported. In separate comments, the head of Russia's SVR foreign intelligence service, Sergei Naryshkin, was quoted as saying that the situation between Iran and Israel was now critical.
Two buildings housing manufacturing sites for centrifuge components for Iran's nuclear programme have been destroyed at Karaj, just outside the capital Tehran, AFP quoted the International Atomic Energy Agency as saying. The UN agency's announcement came hours after Israel's military said it had carried out a series of air strikes in and around Tehran.

NEW DELHI: After Xiaomi and RealMe, another top Chinese electronics provider OnePlus has outsourced the production of its audio and internet-of-things (IoT) products to a local Indian contract manufacturer. The announcement comes as India pushes the production of hi-tech electronics products in the country amidst the US tariff war with China. Optiemus Electronics will be making the products at its factory in Noida, which is in line with OnePlus' plan to localise production in the country. For Optiemus, this is the third such deal after it scored a similar partnership with other Chinese players Xiaomi as well as RealMe previously. 'The strategic partnership aligns with OnePlus' long-term vision for India and the recent project Starlight commitment to strengthen localisation efforts in the region. OnePlus is extending efforts towards expanding its local manufacturing capabilities and has now begun manufacturing its IoT portfolio of products in the Noida-based facility, in addition to its existing smartphones range being made in India,' the Chinese company said. Ashok Gupta, Chairman of Optiemus Group said the collaboration marks a significant step in expanding its electronics manufacturing footprint. 'We specialize in transforming ideas into reality, and this partnership empowers us to manufacture high-quality IoT products. Together, we will continue to explore new frontiers and remain committed to playing a pivotal role in shaping the future of electronics manufacturing in India,' Gupta said. Robin Liu, CEO of OnePlus India, said the partnership with Optiemus reflects the company's commitment to Project Starlight. 'This collaboration is not just about technology— it's about empowering local communities, creating meaningful innovation, and bringing smarter, more connected experiences to our India community." OnePlus' key IoT offerings include TWS products and wireless neckbands. In April this year, Chinese realme had also partnered Optiemus to manufacture its next-generation AIoT (Artificial Intelligence of Things) products in India, which include earphones, smartwatches, and tablets. The deal saw Optiemus and realme manufacture five million AIoT devices annually while generating over 2,000 new employment opportunities in the country.

NIA arrests four more in Tamil Nadu ISIS radicalisation, recruitment case
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday arrested four more persons in the Tamil Nadu ISIS radicalisation and recruitment case involving Coimbatore-based Kovai Arabic College. With this, NIA has made eight arrests in the case, which is an off-shoot of the Coimbatore car bomb blast case. The arrested have been identified as Ahmed Ali of Thirumarai Nagar at Podanur, Jawahar Sathik of Pullukkadu housing unit near Ukkadam, Raja Abdullah alias 'Mac' Raja, and Sheik Dawood. According to the NIA, the four men had been radicalised by Jameel Basha, the founder of Madras Arabic College, who, along with his associates, was involved in recruiting gullible youth and subtly infusing Salafi -Jihadi ideology into them, in the guise of imparting Arabic language classes in Tamil Nadu. NIA had earlier arrested and charge-sheeted Basha, his associates Irshath, Syed Abdur Rahman and Mohammed Hussain, who had been using the classrooms and social platforms to carry out their anti-national radicalisation and recruitment activities, the agency stated in a release. NIA investigations revealed that the accused had promoted Khilafat ideology and martyrdom through jihad, advocating violence and armed struggle to establish an Islamic state, after removing the democratically-elected government, it stated. According to the agency, the radicalisation and recruitment activities had led to the Coimbatore car bomb blast in October 2022, in which the suicide bomber Jamesha Mubeen carried out a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device attack in front of Sangameswarar temple in Coimbatore. The agency added that it was continuing with its investigation in the Tamil Nadu ISIS radicalisation and recruitment case as part of its efforts to check radical terror activities against the nation.
