Arbaeen pilgrimage: Iraq implements a full security and service plan
On Friday, Iraq's Interior Minister Abdul Amir al-Shammari announced the launch of a comprehensive security and service plan for the Arbaeen pilgrimage, emphasizing Najaf's role as a vital hub for millions of pilgrims heading to Karbala.
'Najaf is no less important than Karbala during Arbaeen,' he stressed during a press conference. 'It is a key gateway for pilgrims and requires the same level of preparation and attention.'
Arbaeen, observed 40 days after Ashura, marks the martyrdom of Hussein Bin Ali, the third Imam in Shia Islam and grandson of Prophet Mohammad. Millions are expected to converge on Karbala, many traveling on foot from other provinces—especially Najaf, located about 73 kilometers away—along routes lined with thousands of volunteer-run tents offering food, water, and medical care.
Al-Shammari outlined a coordinated plan that combines intelligence gathering, field deployment, and logistical support. Medical teams, civil defense units, and municipal services have also been placed on high alert to respond promptly during the pilgrimage.
With preparations progressing as planned, Al-Shammari confirmed the introduction of a traffic management strategy designed to reduce accidents by separating pedestrian and vehicle routes. Surveillance cameras, radar systems, and road patrols have been deployed, supported by the full mobilization of the General Directorate of Traffic.
'All government sectors are working as one team to ensure the pilgrimage proceeds smoothly and safely,' he concluded.

Israeli forces advance in Syria's Al-Quneitra, set up checkpoint
Shafaq News – Al-Quneitra On Saturday, Israeli forces deployed ten military vehicles in the Al-Quneitra countryside in southwestern Syria, sources told Shafaq News. The sources said that the convoy moved from Tel Ahmar base toward the road linking Bariqah and Kodnah towns, advancing through Ruwayhinah toward the nearby village of Rasm al-Halabi, near the disengagement line with the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights. A checkpoint was positioned along a main road in the area. The area frequently witnesses Israeli military movements inside or adjacent to the demilitarized strip established under the 1974 disengagement agreement. Tel Ahmar base, from which the convoy departed, is one of Israel's main military positions in the Golan, used to monitor activity inside Syrian territory. US dismisses Iran's 'Axis of Resistance' claim as delusional
Shafaq News – Washington The US State Department spokesperson, Tammy Bruce, dismissed Iran's claim that the 'Axis of Resistance' is stronger than ever, describing it as 'a delusional narrative' aimed at deflecting from the major challenges the country faces at home. Asked by Shafaq News how Washington views the Iranian Armed Forces' statement, Bruce said Lebanon's Hezbollah, Gaza's Hamas, and the Syrian government of Bashar al-Assad 'are gone,' Iran's nuclear facilities 'have been obliterated,' and its remaining allied groups 'did little or nothing during the 12-day war.' 'The world knows that, and ordinary Iranians likely know that too,' the spokesperson added. The comments followed a statement earlier by Iranian Armed Forces spokesperson Brigadier General Abolfazl Shekarchi, who asserted that the 'Axis of Resistance is more unified and capable than ever.'
