Bundesliga club Heidenheim accuses Berlin police of ‘extreme violence' against its fans
BERLIN (AP) — Bundesliga club Heidenheim has accused Berlin police of extreme violence leaving some of its fans needing medical treatment following Saturday's game at Union Berlin.
Five Heidenheim supporters were arrested and three of them charged, two for alleged vandalism and another for alleged insulting behavior, the police told news agency dpa on Sunday.
The club said the police detained several of its supporters before the match for the 'unauthorized posting of stickers during the fan march, which had previously passed without incident.'
'The police also acted with extreme violence without any apparent reason or clear communication after the game, directly before we left the guests' parking lot,' Heidenheim board member Petra Saretz said in a club statement.
The incidents before the match led Heidenheim's supporters to refrain from active support during the match, which the team won 3-0 to be sure of at least a relegation playoff.
'We feel obligated to call out the disproportionate violence used by Berlin police against Heidenheim fans yesterday and hope therefore that the authorities will provide clarification for this incomprehensible action,' said Heidenheim chairman Holger Sanwald, who thanked Union staff and others for their support during the incidents.

According to the criminal complaint, Retton smelled of alcohol and was slurring her words, and she failed a field sobriety test. Officers also reported observing a container of wine in the passenger seat. Retton was 16 when she became the first American female gymnast to win the all-around title at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. She also won two silver and two bronze medals to help bring gymnastics into the mainstream in the United States. In 2023, Retton's family disclosed she was recuperating from a rare form of pneumonia that landed her in intensive care. Doctors found her oxygen levels dangerously low. Her medical team considered putting her on a ventilator as her conditioned worsened. Retton went on oxygen treatment and, after weeks in the hospital, improved enough to be sent home. Tides record first NSL victory, beat visiting Rapid 2-1
HALIFAX – The Halifax Tides have finally hit the win column in the Northern Super League. A goal in the 75th minute by Gunnhildur Yrsa Jonsdottir snapped a 1-1 tie and lifted the Tides to a 2-1 victory over the visiting Ottawa Rapid on Tuesday at Wanderers Grounds. Olivia Scott gave the Rapid a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute, but Megumi Nakamura tied the match in the 58th minute. The Tides outshot the Rapid 19-8 — and 7-2 with on target shots — and improved to one win, five losses and one draw in seven NSL outings. The Rapid slipped to three wins, two losses and two draws in seven games. The Tides had 12 corners while the Rapid took five. The visitors controlled the possession percentage 55-45. Yankees' Aaron Judge hits third-longest homer of MLB season, a 469-foot shot in first inning vs KC

(AP) — Aaron Judge hit the third-longest homer in the majors this season in the first inning of the Yankees' game against the Royals on Tuesday night, a 469-foot shot to left field off Noah Cameron that landed on top of the Kansas City franchise's Hall of Fame. Judge's two-run homer had an exit velocity of 117.9 mph, tying it for the third-hardest hit homer in the majors. It was his 24th of the season, and came two days after the two-time and reigning MVP hit a pair of homers in a loss to the Red Sox. The Angels' Mike Trout hit the longest homer of the season, a 484-foot shot against the Giants on April 19. His teammate, Logan O'Hoppe, hit one 470 against A's on May 27.
