Karnival Jom Heboh 2025's first day draws crowds despite sweltering heat
KUALA LUMPUR: Hundreds flocked to Karnival Jom Heboh 2025 on its opening day, undeterred by the sweltering heat and the fact that it preceded the weekend tomorrow.
The event, held at KL Base, offered an exciting line-up of activities for families, music lovers, gamers and fans of local entertainment.
Nana Hamdan, 38, from Johor made the trip with her family, taking the opportunity while her husband had work commitments in KL.
"It is a chance to bring the kids out during the school holidays," she said.
Though familiar with the Johor version of Jom Heboh, this was her first time attending the KL event.
Describing the atmosphere, she said: "It seems livelier here, with more stalls and vendors. We always try to visit the Jom Heboh events to support the traders and to meet celebrities."
Nana recalled previous events in Johor with numerous celebrities, adding: "As soon as we got to the parking area, we could feel the excitement."
Zakri Shah, 39, a representative from Kaotim, a booth at the event, noted that this was not their first time.
"I've been attending (to Jom Heboh) since 2023. Previously, I went to the ones in Kuching, Shah Alam and Johor Baru," he said.
Friday saw a lower turnout but they were more optimistic for the weekend. "Visitors will come in large numbers on Saturday."
Meanwhile, Muhamad Fadli Ikhwan, 27, an enterpreneur, came with his friends to participate in the Mobile Legends tournament.
Commenting in the low turnout, he said it could be due to it being a Friday. "Usually, Jom Heboh is crowded."
The day's heat, however, didn't dampen their enthusiasm, as one of Fadli's friend said: "It's okay, but it's hot."
The day's activities kicked off at 9am with Zumba with Ejen Ali, followed by a colouring contest at the mini stage at Studio Tonton Drama Sangat.
Visitors were entertained during the Nasi Lemak Kopi O' meet-and-greet at 11.30am, as well as a Didik TV edutainment session and the Buletin Challenge hosted by familiar anchors from TV3 and TV9 throughout the day.
The day will end with the 'Ejen Ali: The Movie 2' voice actor meet-and-greet session at 6pm followed by karaoke later tonight.

Virtual Racing thrills families at NSTP booth during Karnival Jom Heboh
KUALA LUMPUR: Visitors to the Karnival Jom Heboh (KJH) at KL Base were treated to an exciting dose of futuristic fun at the New Straits Times Press (NSTP) booth, which featured a virtual racing experience powered by augmented reality (AR) technology. The interactive activity allowed participants to use a gaming steering wheel to control a physical toy car on a designated track. A television screen in front of the drivers displayed the actual course, enhanced with car designs and digital power-ups, creating an immersive virtual racing environment. Rahmat Hilmi, 40, from Keramat praised the unique experience, adding that it brought families together. "It's really something different from the other booths. It brings that family vibe where everyone, regardless of age, can take part," he said. He also suggested a few improvements, including increasing the visibility of the activity from afar to attract more visitors. "Right now, people have to walk past the booth before they notice the TV screen. "Maybe clearer signage or better promotional visuals could help catch attention from a distance," he added. The booth offered the activity at a family-friendly price of RM20 for four people, which many found worthwhile. Meanwhile, checks from morning until 3pm did not see as many visitors flooding into KJH as compared to previous locations. One of the visitors, Ahmad Naqiuddin Shah. 27, who lives nearby the carnival at Jalan Klang Lama said it could be due to the hot weather. "I came because it just so happens to be near my house which is only 15 minutes away. "It might not seem lively right now, especially earlier in the afternoon due to the hot weather. "But maybe people are looking forward to the concert tonight when the temperature is cooler. "But I would recommend people to come because KJH is known for its fun and family-friendly activities. And on the bright side, there is ample parking for visitors," he said. KJH, the roadshow-style carnival will continue its tour across other states, including Penang, Johor, Kelantan, and Sarawak. Adding to the excitement at KL Base will be a special appearance by cast members from the hit film Ejen Ali 2, which is currently screening in cinemas nationwide. In addition to the AR racing experience, visitors can look forward to a host of exciting programmes throughout the day. At 4.30pm, the first Drama Meet and Greet session featuring cast members from Bukan Ipar Sempurna, Fazleena Md Daud, Atira Karma, Jiha Sham and Cahaya Nilam, will take place at Studio Tonton Drama Sangat. This will be followed by a second session at 6.15pm for fans of Aku Bukan Ustazah 2, where Ahmad Syafiq, Fikhree Bakar and Shaza Bae are scheduled to make an appearance. The festivities will culminate in the much-anticipated Konsert Jom Heboh at 9pm on the Pentas Utama stage. The concert will showcase performances by a star-studded lineup including Shiha Zikir, Bunga Isme, Puteri Khareeza, Ameerais, Aisha Retno, Khai Bahar and the group A.X.P, led by Amir Sofaz.

Alif Zafran wins KJH cosplay contest with homemade Satria suit
PIC BY NSTP/RAIHANA MANSOR KUALA LUMPUR: Eleven-year-old Alif Zafran Zairif stole the spotlight at the Ejen Ali cosplay competition during Karnival Jom Heboh at KL Base today, wearing a striking homemade replica of the animated hero's Satria suit. The Satria suit, short for System Advance Tactical Raid Intelligence Armor, is a signature upgrade from the animated series, characterised by its high-tech design, glowing blue LED lights, visor helmet, and reinforced combat-ready body plating. Alif's father, Zairif Affizal, 38, was the creative force behind the costume, completing the project in just two weeks after learning about the competition. "I only found out about the Ejen Ali cosplay contest two weeks ago, so I worked on it day and night," said Zairif, who used images and videos from Facebook and TikTok for reference. "This was my second time making a costume, and I wanted to go all out for my son." Rather than ordering a custom made suit which can cost up to RM1,000, Zairif built the ensemble from scratch himself for under RM300, using mainly EVA foam and recycled materials. He said the most challenging part was crafting the helmet. "To get it right, you really need skill. Without the proper technique, it ends up looking odd. "It took some trial and error to get the shape, proportions and finish just right." Alif took home RM500 and some goodies, followed by the runner-up and third place both cosplaying as Ejen Alicia winning RM400 and RM300. Judging the competition was Ejen Rizwan voice actor Azman Zulkiply, who praised the high level of creativity shown by all participants, especially the support shown by parents. "If I could, I'd make everyone the winner. "Every contestant had their own unique effort, and you could see how happy the kids were on stage," he told reporters. He admitted it was a tough decision but ultimately named Alif as his personal favourite. "I really liked Alicia, the last contestant with the action scene, very cool with the cut-outs and all. "But if I had to choose one, I'd go with the Satria suit. The glowing blue eyes and lights were next-level. You could see the effort." Azman also praised the Ejen Ali franchise for instilling positive values in children. "The series promotes friendship, loyalty and other strong values. "It's wonderful to see parents supporting their kids through local content like this. "It shows how much fun and pride there is in celebrating something made in Malaysia." The day's activities kicked off at 9am with Zumba with Ejen Ali, followed by a colouring contest at the mini stage at Studio Tonton Drama Sangat and the cosplay competition at 11am. Yesterday, Fans of Ejen Ali: The Movie 2 flocked to a special meet-and-greet session at Karnival Jom Heboh 2025 to catch a glimpse of the voice actors and mascots of the popular animation. Shafiq Isa and Noorhayati Maslini Omar, who voice Ejen Bakar and Ejen Alicia, charmed the crowd with an interactive session and prize giveaways.

Ejen Ali: The Movie 2's meet-and-greet thrills fans at Jom Heboh 2025
KUALA LUMPUR: Fans of Ejen Ali: The Movie 2 flocked to a special meet-and-greet session at Karnival Jom Heboh 2025 to catch a glimpse of the voice actors and mascots of the popular animation. Shafiq Isa and Noorhayati Maslini Omar, who voice Ejen Bakar and Ejen Alicia, charmed the crowd with an interactive session and prize giveaways. Qayyim Zamani, who voices the villain Neonimus, joined the press sit-down afterwards. "Actually, I work at WAU Animation in the sound design department. "This was my first time doing voice acting. I received a lot of guidance from Mr Shafiq Isa," he said. Qayyim shared his own connection to the film, which first came out when he was 12 years old. "I grew up with Ejen Ali, so I'm grateful. It still feels hard to believe. It feels like a dream." "Many kids dislike Neonimus, so I'm happy," he added. Shafiq attributed the film's success to its brilliant timing, and dwelled on how many fans grew up with the series. "Some fans were eight years old when Season 1 came out, and by the time this movie was released, they were already 18 years old. That's amazing," he said. Noorhayati, who has been a voice actor for 20 years, reflected on the project's growth: "Ejen Ali was my first local animation project; the others were dubbing for foreign cartoons. "When I first auditioned, there was no one else—just five or four people. Now that it's a hit, when they open auditions, thousands come." One of the parents at the event was Zawani Zainal, 36, from Cheras, who brought her three children. "It happened to coincide with the school break, so I decided to bring my children here, and they've always been interested in Ejen Ali," she said. Zawani said she found out about the meet and greet through TV3. "Ejen Ali is a good animation because it promotes strong values, such as not giving up easily. That's the kind of message I want my children to take away," she said. Bahtiar Ab Rahman, who attended with his children, said: "My kids really enjoy Ejen Ali. I think the animation is appropriate for children. Personally, I haven't had the chance to watch the second movie yet." The event came as Ejen Ali: The Movie 2 continued to make waves at the box office, raking in RM21.9 million after just eight days in cinemas.
