Tenders finalised for construction of five admin towers in Amaravati
Vijayawada: Minister for Municipal Administration P Narayana said the CRDA meeting led by Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu on Monday finalised tenders for construction of five administrative towers in Amaravati core capital area.
Giving details of CRDA meeting, the Minister said the tender for construction of Rs 882 cr GAD tower bagged by NC Company, Rs 1,487 cr worth HOD towers by Shapoorji Pallonji and Rs 1,304 cr HOD tower by L&T company have been finalised.He said the concerned companies will start construction work soon.
The Minister said the construction of administrative towers will be taken up as per the designs approved during the previous TDP regime. He said 5,000 acres of land was required for the construction of an International Airport in Amaravati and 2,500 acres for Smart Industries Eity and another 2,500 acres for International Sports City. The government is yet to take a decision on whether to acquire land or go for land pooling. He said the government has to acquire 40,000 acres from people. However, farmers are preferring land pooling.
The Minister said the constructions in Amaravati capital will be completed in three years.

Gujarat Congress demands CBI investigation into MNREGA scam
Gandhinagar: The state unit of the Congress party has demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the MNREGA scam in Gujarat. They alleged that minister Bachubhai Khabad, whose two sons were arrested for their involvement in the scam, is obstructing the investigation. Speaking to reporters in Gandhinagar, Amit Chavda, leader of the Congress Legislature Party, said that bills worth over Rs 3 crore were paid without any work being done under MNREGA on 12 land survey numbers belonging to Khabad's family. "We demand a CBI investigation into the scam. The minister has been obstructing the investigation in the case. Why has he not been removed from the cabinet?" Chavda questioned. Chavda said that despite the Congress submitting complaints with evidence of widespread MNREGA-related corruption, the govt has so far investigated cases only in Devgadh Baria and Dhanpur talukas. "A CBI probe will bring to the fore similar corruption cases in different districts," Chavda said.

Forest dept to simplify rules for growing sandalwood trees on pvt lands
Mysuru: With a view to encouraging farmers to grow sandalwood trees, the Karnataka forest department is contemplating simplifying rules to grow them on private lands, said forest minister Eshwar Khandre. Thanking Karnataka Soaps and Detergents Limited (KSDL) for distributing Suraksha kits containing a jacket, bag, and a pair of boots to forest watchers, forest guards, and elephant handlers under its CSR funds at an event at the KSOU auditorium here, the minister said the govt would make a decision in this regard within a week or two. In response to KSDL's request for support in growing more sandalwood trees on forest lands, Khandre replied positively, stating he would discuss it with forest officers and communicate with them. He also suggested approaching the revenue department, noting that there are many abandoned lands that can be utilised for this purpose. Earlier, KSDL chairman Appaji C S Nadagouda, an MLA, proposed to the forest department to have a memorandum of understanding to grow sandalwood trees on forest land, suggesting that they would bear the cost of growing provided they're given the land. The chairman said that more than 90% of their products made of sandalwood are in demand without any marketing. About 82% of sales happen outside Karnataka, he said. KSDL reserved Rs 7 crore under CSR funds, of which Rs 2 crore was utilised to provide Suraksha Kits to nearly 10,000 forest personnel at the grassroots, including about 2,100 in the Mysuru forest division. On the occasion, the chairman also revealed plans to expand its business and increase its revenue to Rs 3,000 crore in the next few years. In the previous fiscal year, KSDL earned about Rs 410 crore in revenue. Minister Khandre also appreciated wildlife photographer and minister MB Patil's son, Dhruv Patil, who is also a member of the State Wildlife Board, for his concern towards forest watchers and guards.
