Graham Linehan denies harassing transgender woman
The Bafta-winning writer, who also came up with TV sitcoms The IT Crowd and Black Books, has become a strong vocal critic of the trans rights movement in recent years.
Linehan, who created Father Ted in the 1990s with fellow Irish writer Arthur Mathews, said in a post on X in April that the allegations were related to an incident at the Battle of Ideas conference in London on October 19.
Court documents show Linehan is charged with harassing the alleged victim by posting abusive comments about her on social media between October 11 and October 27, and damaging her phone to the value of £369 on the day of the conference.
Speaking outside of the court, Linehan said: "For six years, ever since I began defending the rights of women and children against a dangerous ideology, I have faced harassment, abuse and threats.
'I've lost great deal, but I am still here, and I will not waver in my resolve.'
Deputy District Judge Louise Balmain told Linehan his trial would take place on September 4 this year at the same court.
He was freed on bail with the condition not to contact the complainant directly or indirectly.

"I will try my best to keep that spirit and keep that energy alive. I love that guy. I got to know him personally at the end and I love that family. I've got nothing but love, always." Yungblud's documentary, titled Are You Ready, Boy?, was filmed at the famous Hansa Studios in Berlin. The studios were also used by the likes of David Bowie and U2. The feature-length film, directed by Bafta-winner Paul Dugdale, charts Dom's early life growing up in Doncaster and shows him performing at the legendary Hansa Studios in Berlin, the birthplace of David Bowie's album Heroes, and U2's Achtung Baby. And the artist admitted it as been "pretty uncomfortable" to watch his latest production as he took in the premiere. "I wanted to do something that would be raw and uncomfortable, and this is what came out." It comes after he hinted at a "secret recording" before friend Ozzy Osbourne's death. Speaking at the time, he hinted he was working with Sabbath star Ozzy at a possible secret recording with his mentor, saying: 'There is a lot in the works as me and Ozzy are friends.' However, he recently shared the heartbreaking way her found out Ozzy had died. The Hello Heaven, Hello singer revealed he learned of the rock icon's death while he was on an island that had no internet service available. As he shared his feelings about his death recently, he said he found it "overwhelming" after previously declaring the star as "the greatest of all time" in a touching tribute. The chart topping singer has candidly explained that the sudden death of his friend has been hard to process. "I just love him and right till the very end he supported me. I get emotional, because I've loved him since I was about two," he said. He added: "He taught me self-belief and so I'm going to take his spirit and make sure everybody knows for the rest of my life who Ozzy Osbourne was - he meant everything to me."

The first trailer for Ella McCay has dropped and fans are already obsessed with the film that also features Kumail Nanjiani, Ayo Edebiri, Woody Harrelson, Rebecca Hall and Julie Kavner. The first trailer for Ella McCay, a fresh comedy drama featuring Jamie Lee Curtis, has just landed and viewers are already captivated, with one declaring that "we need more movies like this". Set in 2008, the film centres on Ella (Emma Mackey), a successful young politician juggling the peaks and valleys of her chaotic family dynamics alongside her blossoming career. Packed with A-list talent, Jamie and Emma are joined by an impressive ensemble including Kumail Nanjiani, Ayo Edebiri, Woody Harrelson, Rebecca Hall and Julie Kavner. Fans were quick to voice their excitement online. One Reddit user posted: "It's nice to see a family drama airing in theaters. Don't see that much anymore," reports the Express. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, he shared: "I came from a family that wasn't roses and warm bread, and so I wanted it to be about one errant parent and getting over the loss of a parent. I never want to do anything that's not a comedy, and I always want to represent life." He also revealed the lengthy audition process that led to Emma landing the lead role, saying, "I was in an audition process for a long time. "I went to London, and very late in the game, she turned up, and that was it. In my mind, I pictured the kind of heroines that we had in the '50s and '60s, early Katharine Hepburn and Rosalind Russell. There's a certain kind of great movie star we used to have, and Emma has a lot of those same qualities." Ella McCay is set to hit the big screen on 12 December.
