NYC talent agent accused of stealing $1.8 million from over 100 actors

Yahoo22-04-2025
NEW YORK (PIX11) — A talent agent working in New York City was charged in connection with stealing about $1.8 million from 160 actors and another $26,000 in wages from employees, according to Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg Jr.
Mark Measures, 60, of KMR Talent faces charges such as scheme to defraud, multiple counts of grand larceny and petit larceny, Bragg announced Tuesday.

'Rather than pay the actors and employees, the defendants used their hard-earned money to fund his lavish lifestyle,' said the District Attorney.
Measures is accused of depositing checks issued to actors under the KMR agency then diverting the funds to pay business expenses, creditors and personal expenditures, court documents show.

Actors say when they asked about their payment, Measures blamed the bank or slow mail then sent checks that bounced, according to court statements. Some actors say they never received checks and that Measures stopped contacting them all together, the District Attorney reports.
The majority of the alleged theft involved residual payments and holding fees, which can be difficult to monitor, according to Bragg.
Most of the actors filmed commercials, voiced advertisements, and appeared in shows like 'Law & Order' while working other jobs to pursue full-time acting careers in New York City.
Measures is also accused of taking wages that were intended for 401(k) accounts from six employees at an NYC office and never investing the money, said the District Attorney.
The District Attorney's Worker Protection Unit has recovered and distributed more than $1.3 million in wages stolen from more than four dozen workers. Anyone who may be victim is advised to contact the office at (646) 712-0298.

Spike Lee Says Trump Should ‘Think Twice' if He Considers a Federal Takeover of New York: ‘The Boogie-Down? Harlem?'

"This is a scary time," the "Do the Right Thing" director tells the Rev. Al Sharpton on MSNBC Spike Lee's characters say 'Wake up!' in 'Do the Right Thing,' 'School Daze' and 'Malcolm X' – and now the director has put the signature line in his weekend MSNBC appearance, too. Speaking with 'Politics Nation' host Rev. Al Sharpton on Saturday to promote the Denzel Washington film 'Highest 2 Lowest,' Lee said the Trump administration's federal law-enforcement takeover in Washington, D.C., wouldn't go quite the same if the president tried it in New York City. 'And I mean, he's going to think twice [if he tries] to do that in New York though. The Boogie Down? Harlem?' Sharpton agreed, saying that it would 'be a different kind of reaction.' Chuckling with glee, Lee responded: 'Oh yeah. It's gonna be very different.' Sharpton asked Lee what he thought about Trump mobilizing federal agents and National Guard troops 'in heavily Black and brown cities with Black mayors,' given how Lee has portrayed authoritarian law enforcement throughout his films. 'They're weaponizing these other agencies of the United States government,' Lee said more gravely. 'And this is — this is a scary time. The last word in 'School Daze' … my brother … Lawrence Fishburne saying, 'Wake up!' And the first line in 'Do the Right Thing' you know — Samuel Jackson saying, 'Wake up.' So we need to wake up. We need to wake up. You know, it's some serious times and we gotta be on point and just be in the moment and see this three-card-monte game — watch the black, watch the black, watch the black! … you can't win.' 'Highest 2 Lowest' is in theaters now. Watch the entire exchange in the video above. Texas AG expands order to halt Beto O'Rourke's group fundraising efforts

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced Saturday he secured a 'modified' temporary restraining order that will halt former U.S. Rep. Beto O'Rourke and his political group, Powered by People, 'from removing any property or funds out of Texas.' ActBlue, who also partners with Powered by People, is included in that order, per a news release from Paxton's office. 'In Texas, lawless actions have consequences, and Beto's finding that out the hard way,' Paxton said in the release. Ken Paxton opens investigation into Beto O'Rourke-backed PAC that supports Democratic candidates This all comes after Paxton first secured the temporary restraining order last week against Powered by People for alleged 'unlawful fundraising activity' for Democrats who broke quorum during the Texas special session, a news release from his office states. A district judge from Tarrant County also sided with Paxton by temporarily blocking the organization from fundraising for 'Democrats or financially supporting the quorum break.' 'This is the guy that we're talking about, who was twice indicted on securities fraud charges. And ladies and gentleman, he was impeached by the Texas Legislature — which is a Republican majority institution — on charges of bribery himself. And he's accusing us of some kind of fraud as we try to stop the theft of these five congressional seats. Well you know what? We welcome his investigation, we welcome his attack, we welcome their hatred right now. Because it proves that we're doing the right thing,' O'Rourke said while speaking to a crowd in Oklahoma last week. The first special session ended Friday after it did not have quorum for the sixth consecutive time, as the House failed to reach the 100 member quorum needed to conduct business. Additionally, Gov. Greg Abbott announced a second special session just minutes after the first special session ended, which will include the 18 original items announced in the first one. On Saturday, O'Rourke announced Powered by People donated more than $1 million to Texas Democrats during the special session, according to The Texas Tribune. He added 'more than 55,000 donations' came from people across the country since the start of the first special session. Earlier this month, O'Rourke filed his own lawsuit against the attorney general after he was sued. He asked a judge to block Paxton's investigation into Powered by People, alleging he engaged in a 'fishing expedition, constitutional rights be damned,' according to the Tribune. Man reunited with stolen American Bully dog in the Bronx: ‘I want to cry'

THE BRONX, N.Y. (PIX11) — A man was tearfully reunited with his American Bully dog days after the pup was snatched on a Bronx subway train over the weekend, according to police. 'Overwhelmed and I want to cry. I'm in a big city in New York, you may not find your dog,' Charles Williams told PIX11 News. Sources said a good Samaritan found the 2-year-old brown and black dog and dropped it off at the 44th Precinct in the Bronx on Thursday morning. Detectives then called Williams to give him the good news. As an officer walked out of the precinct with the leashed dog, Williams and the excited pup happily greeted each other with plenty of hugs and kisses. 'My anxiety was up. I suffer from depression, and I was very depressed,' Williams said. 'He depends on me, and I depend and him. And I feel like I let him down, and don't worry, it will never happen again.' The 45-year-old owner told PIX11 News he was on the D train early Sunday morning to escape the heat and fell asleep because he was tired. Police said the suspect allegedly took the dog while Williams was asleep on a northbound D train near the Bainbridge Avenue and East 206th Street station at around 6 a.m. There have been no arrests. The investigation is ongoing. Submit tips to police by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477), visiting downloading the NYPD Crime Stoppers mobile app, or texting 274637 (CRIMES) then entering TIP577.
