Two plays by CBC star Bilal Baig to hit the stage next year in Toronto
Winnipeg Free Press24-06-2025
TORONTO – 'Sort Of' star Bilal Baig is bringing new stories to the stage.
Two plays by the creator of the acclaimed CBC Gem dramedy are part of the upcoming 2025/2026 season for Buddies in Bad Times Theatre.
The Toronto theatre describes 'Kainchee Lagaa + Jhooti: The Begging Brown Bitch Plays' as two unflinching stories of brown trans women caught between worlds.
Baig's CBC hit ended in 2023 after three seasons that focused on a gender-expansive Torontonian juggling a floundering career and love life.
The new works are described as about 'lying, sex, and rebirthing oneself: over and over and over again.'
They make their world premiere in April 2026 as a co-production by A House of Beida and Buddies, a downtown theatre dedicated to amplifying and developing queer stories for the stage.
