Fun for kids with DreamMaker Foundation Family Raceday at Hamilton Park
The countdown is on for the highly-anticipated 2025 season at Hamilton Park, with the DreamMaker Foundation Family Raceday on Sunday, May 4. This action-packed day promises seven thrilling races alongside a fantastic selection of free children's activities to entertain the little ones and big kids. This season, Hamilton Park have frozen ticket prices from 2024, meaning racegoers can experience even more value this year. On the day, kids can enjoy giant inflatables, bungee trampolines, Segways, face painting, laser tag and much more including the brand-new Miami Fairground Ride, all included in the ticket price. In preparation for the new season, Hamilton Park have made further enhancements to the resort, including refurbishments to the Weighing Room and Club Lawn Marquee, ensuring an improved experience for racegoers and participants alike. The racecourse's managing director, Ashley Moon, said: 'Everyone here at Hamilton Park is looking forward to welcoming racegoers back for what's shaping up to be an exciting 2025 season. 'This year is set to be one of our best yet, with highlights including Cube Glass Ladies' Night and the historic Lanark Silver Bell Racenight. We are also proud to once again host the Sky Bet Sunday Series, offering an incredible £215,000 in prize money, making this our most valuable fixture of 2025. 'With total prize money across all 18 fixtures set to exceed £1.64 million, the competition on the track is set to be more thrilling than ever. Beyond the racing, racegoers can look forward to fantastic after-racing entertainment and special celebrity appearances, all contributing to an unforgettable experience at Hamilton Park.' Lanarkshire golf tournament in Natalie's memory raises record amount for Epilepsy Scotland
The event at Wishaw Golf Club is the fundraising highlight of the year An annual golf tournament organised by a foundation set up in memory of a Lanarkshire schoolgirl raised a record amount at this year's event. The Funky Natz Foundation was set up by the parents of 11-year-old Natalie Hughes who died suddenly in March 2011. Natalie's mum and dad Eileen and Eddie launched the fundraising initiative following the unexplained death of their daughter, who had epilepsy. The foundation has kept Natalie's memory alive while raising money for Epilepsy Scotland. Download the Lanarkshire Live app today The annual golf tournament at Wishaw Golf Club is the fundraising highlight of the year and featured a top-prize of a brand new car, courtesy of Park's Renault Motherwell, as a prize for a hole-in-one at one of the greens. Before this year's tournament the total raised stood at more than £160,000 and the committee hoped to take that to around the £170,000 mark. However, this year's event raised an incredible record total of £16,153 in the East Kilbride girl's memory. Around 140 golfers took part in 35 teams of four, with a Renault Clio Evolution TCe 90 up for grabs for a hole-in-one, worth almost £20,000. No one managed to take the top prize but that didn't stop anyone from enjoying a fantastic day. Tournament winners were Liam McGarry and Paul McMahon, who also had the best back nine, runners-up were Tam Wotherspoon and Grant Robertson, and finishing in third place were Brian Donahue and George Campbell. There was also a tournament within the tournament this year and the Natalie Hughes Cup, courtesy of Epilepsy Scotland, was presented to Wullie McCulloch who had the best individual score on the day. Inaugural Strathaven Beer Festival draws in over 1000 revellers
Not even a downpour mid-way through could dampen the spirits of most beer enthusiasts, as the festival site stayed busy until the end. The inaugura l Strathaven Beer Festival took place at the weekend - with over 1000 revellers enjoying the event. Organised by the team behind the award-winning Eaglesham Beer Fest, the gathering showcased some of Scotland's best craft brewers and drinks brands. It was supported by lip-smacking street food and fantastic live music, which kept Strathaven's hardy souls warm and entertained during the two bouts of rain. Organiser Fraser Wilson told Lanarkshire Live: 'We are so grateful to the people of Strathaven for welcoming us into the town for the event, which we think was a roaring success. 'We had sold over 1100 briefs for our first event and over 85 per cent of those ticket holders attended - that doesn't include those who bought on the day, or children. 'For the most, we rode our luck and the weather was fine - sunny in parts, even. But at around 3.20pm there was an hour of pretty miserable rain and most people ran for cover, with a few calling it a day.' But the bad weather couldn't stop the party, with live music from Zack Dale and Underdog keeping spirits up. And those spirits went through the roof when teen-singing sensation Connor Fyfe had the large marquee rocking. That was mirrored in the large Scout tent by John McLarnon, who made the most of his ad hoc staging to put on a fabulous singalong. Let's Get Eclectic brought the house down with a superb DJ set, which sent revellers into the Strathaven evening to enjoy hospitality elsewhere. Fraser added: 'We're really chuffed at how it went and are really keen to hear people's feedback. 'If it's something that people enjoyed, feel the town benefitted from and want to see return, then we'd be happy to look into Strathaven Beer Fest 2026.
