'Naidu, Nitish Need To Be Threatened': Opposition's Take On Need For 'Tainted PM-CM' Bill
Opposition leaders said this Bill is to keep allies Nitish Kumar and N Chandrababu Naidu in line, as they are "most fearful" and the NDA government is "worried" about their support
The opposition has its own reasoning why Union Home Minister Amit Shah introduced in Parliament the three 'draconian" Bills for removal of prime ministers, chief ministers and ministers arrested for more than 30 days on criminal charges.
And that reason, according to opposition parties, is leverage. While one said this is to keep allies Nitish Kumar and N Chandrababu Naidu in line, another said the two chief ministers are 'most fearful" and the Narendra Modi-led government is 'worried" about their support. One went as far as to appeal for the two leaders to 'wake up" and take stock of this 'decisive step towards creating an Orwellian state".
'When Vote Chori is on everyone's minds, When RahulGandhi ji's Yatra is getting unparalleled support, When Opposition Governments need to be targeted, When allies like Chandrababu Naidu garu and Nitish Kumar ji need to be threatened… The Home Minister brings this dangerous Bill that strikes at the heart of the Constitutional principles of federalism," Venugopal wrote in a post on X.
Sanjay Raut of Shiv Sena (UBT), meanwhile, said Naidu and Nitish were 'most fearful" when it comes to this Bill. 'Modi-Shah introduce a bill in Parliament to arrest and sack CMs and ministers. Naidu and Nitish are reportedly most fearful. Modi govt worries they might withdraw support!" he wrote in a post on X.

Fellow Bihari, Manoj Jha of the RJD called for Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to 'wake up" and oppose the Bill. 'The proposed Bill is not just a legislative move; it is a decisive step towards creating an Orwellian state, whereby the BJP aims to create an 'opposition-free democracy' or whatever name it acquires. Please wake up Sir(s) Nitish Kumar and N Chandrababu Naidu," he wrote on X.
Jha shared Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan's post on the matter, which said the 130th Constitutional Amendment Bill is a 'blatant attack on federalism and the rights of states".

'It seeks to destabilise non-BJP governments by weaponising central agencies, jailing opponents on false charges, and disqualifying them. Democratic forces must resist this neo-fascist assault," Vijayan said on X.
The three Bills have drawn fierce protests from the opposition. Amid calls of 'draconian" and 'misuse", they were on Wednesday referred to a joint parliamentary panel. While the ruling side said the proposed legislation provides 'a solution for people like Arvind Kejriwal", opposition parties said they are 'against the principles of natural justice".

Crowds swell as Rahul yatra raises pitch over Bihar SIR
PATNA: The ongoing 16-day, 3,000-km Yatra of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has been drawing massive crowds in Bihar, with people lining the roads, waving flags, and cheering him. Hundreds of young people were seen clicking selfies, while Rahul himself appeared overwhelmed by the response. On Tuesday, the Yatra moved from Gaya towards Nawada and Sheikhpura. In Nawada, Rahul addressed a public meeting on the third day of the march before continuing his journey. The programme has been running behind schedule, as Rahul makes frequent unscheduled halts to meet people personally. Some, however, were left disappointed. 'I wanted to take a selfie with Rahul Gandhi, but could not because of the rush. I don't know if I'll ever get the chance again,' said Sangeeta Kumari, 21, a student from Nawada. Her cousin Raj Kishore, a 24-year-old UPSC aspirant, was luckier. 'I jostled with Congress workers to get close. The security was tight, but I managed to take a photo with him,' he said.

Rajasthan seeks Central assistance for renewable energy projects
Rajasthan has sought Central assistance for its renewable energy projects, while drawing the Centre's attention to the need for their inclusion in the third phase of the Green Energy Corridor (GEC-III) to develop the intra-State transmission infrastructure. The State is expected to invest ₹9,000 crore in the transmission projects. Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, who met Union Minister of Power, Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar, in New Delhi on Wednesday (August 20, 2025), said the State had received several proposals for investment in renewable energy. The Central assistance was required for accelerating the infrastructure development to meet the renewable energy targets, Mr. Sharma said. The Chief Minister discussed the issues related to energy and urban development in Rajasthan with Mr. Khattar. He also sought Central assistance for urban bodies of non-million plus cities in the State under the 15th Finance Commission. Mr. Sharma said the financial assistance would enable the urban local bodies to execute the development works speedily. Mr. Sharma drew the Union Minister's attention to the fifth phase of the Rajasthan Urban Infrastructure Development Project (RUIDP), being operated with the joint funding of Asian Development Bank and World Bank. He said the fifth phase project had been prepared and submitted to the Centre, on which a positive response was expected. 'The State government is committed to achieving the goals of urban development, including water supply, waste water management, solid waste management, urban traffic reforms, flood management, and heritage conservation,' Mr. Sharma said. An early approval of the project would help accelerate all-round development of cities in the State, he added.

Lalu exhorts voters to unseat ‘chor' BJP govt
RJD chief Lalu Prasad took a jibe at the BJP, referring to it as 'thieves'. 'Chor ko hataiye, BJP ko bhagaiye, aur hume jitaiye (remove the thieves, make BJP run away and help us win),' Lalu said at the launch of 'Vote Adhikar Yatra' from Sasaram in Rohtas district. He appealed to the electorate to remove the BJP from power at any cost. He declared that only a united Opposition could topple the BJP, urging everyone to rally behind Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav, uproot the ruling combine to save democracy. Despite his poor health, Lalu stood up from his chair and addressed the crowd, leaving his political rivals visibly unsettled. Ex-minister Nagmani joins saffron party The BJP is making all-out efforts to retain OBC and EBC votes ahead of the Assembly elections. Former Union minister and prominent Kushwaha leader Nagmani joined the BJP, vowing lifelong loyalty. His dramatic pledge sent a ripple of surprise through the crowd at the 'Milan Samaroh' as he had changed political parties 11 times in the past. Son of a former freedom fighter, late Jagdeo Prasad, Nagmani claimed that Kushwaha votes will go in favour of the NDA in the assembly election as all three prominent Kushwaha leaders—Samrat Choudhary, Upendra Kushwaha, and Nagmani—have come together before elections.
