'S.W.A.T.' stars tease historic Powell and Gamble-focused episode: 'One of the most badass episodes'
"That is probably one of the most badass episodes," Annie Ilonzeh told Yahoo Canada. "I think it's the first of S.W.A.T. history."
A consistent element of S.W.A.T. is that, while fans love watching characters like Hondo (Shemar Moore) and Deacon (Jay Harrington), the women on 20-Squad are really high on the list of interesting characters on the show.
The series creates a space for Powell and Gamble to be tough and badass, and lean into their femininity, and vulnerable. They're more three-dimensional than we've historically seen in this TV genre.
"That is such a big thing for me, is not being in that box," Ilonzeh said. "I will be honest, there was a part of me, initially, I was like, OK I'm going get hit over the head with like, 'Well, don't forget to do these things,' ... because this is an established show. But it doesn't mean that there's an established equation that I have to follow or that Anna has to follow."
"I've been on other procedurals and you know that you have to hit certain marks. And tonally, it's great for an audience to know that they're going to come to something that they can rely on, and so we definitely take that into into consideration, for sure. But in terms of being able to let my shit fly and be what I want to be, and make Gamble this particular individual that is flawed and is dysfunctional, and professional and compassionate, and all the things that, not just as a woman, but certainly as a woman, that we are hit with every day from the moment we wake up, ... it makes me feel good that she's that one of one. And I think that with every character on this show."
Ritch echoed Ilonzeh's statements, saying that "there is no box" that these characters are instructed to fit into.
"I think everyone's strength sometimes looks a little different," Ritch said. "So it's really a gift with the writing and the writers and the directors that we've had, they just sort of allow it to surface when it does."
"Your power just comes in at random spots, and there's no box to check, or I don't feel like I have to adhere to rules. ... It feels like we're given a lot of freedom, which is such a gift."
Going one step further, the writers of S.W.A.T. even proactively ask for thought and opinions from the actors to inform each episode's story.
"Some of the writers, Ryan Keleher in particular, was like, 'What do you like? Who are you? What's going on with you?'" Ilonzeh highlighted. "It's a true testament to say about a writer, producer, because they don't have to do that, and they very much care, and are trying to align my vision and my voice with a character that technically they have written as established."
"But they're like, 'No. You are the creator of this person, ... so let me know what you want to do.'"

Watch Matt Damon and Jimmy Kimmel Reignite Their Feud on ‘Millionaire'
Matt Damon and Jimmy Kimmel, who have been publicly sparring since 2005, brought their ongoing feud to Who Wants to Be a Millionaire last night. Kimmel currently hosts and executive produces the ABC game show, which premiered its fourth season last week. Damon appeared on the latest episode as a contestant, playing alongside a secret weapon, Jeopardy! host and champion Ken Jennings. The duo made it through all of the rounds to the final million-dollar query: 'Which of these words is used to describe one of the most beautiful auditory effects on Earth: the sound made by the leaves of trees when wind blows through them?' More from Rolling Stone Trump Says He Was Not 'Solely Responsible' for 'Late Show' Cancellation How to Watch 'Who Wants to be a Millionaire' Online Without Cable Jimmy Kimmel, Ben Stiller, Elizabeth Warren Question CBS' Decision to End 'The Late Show' Jennings suggested the pair play it safe by removing two answers, which annoyed Kimmel. 'You know you could have won this own your own?' Kimmel told Jennings. Damon acknowledged, 'It is so awesome having Ken Jennings as your partner in a trivia game. I can't even tell you.' Jennings then said to the audience, 'Everybody but Jimmy Kimmel, do we love Matt Damon or what?' Kimmel responded by boo-ing, leading Damon to quip, 'Thank you so much! You are making him so miserable right now.' 'You're turning this into an uprising,' Kimmel told Jennings. 'I'm coming onto Jeopardy! with someone you hate!' Damon and Jennings ultimately won $1 million for Damon's nonprofit which helps bring clean water to communities in need. 'This is the least dramatic million-dollar moment in Who Wants to Be a Millionaire history,' Kimmel noted when they claimed victory. As he handed the duo their giant check, Kimmel reached out to Damon and said, 'I'm begrudgingly going to shake your hand.' Kimmel and Damon have been playing along with their pretend rivalry since 2005 when Kimmel introduced a bit on Jimmy Kimmel Live where he feigned cutting Damon from air. 'I want to apologize to Matt Damon, we ran out of time,' the late-night host joked. Since then, the pair have continued the bit, even involving people like Ben Affleck in the feud. Hulu App Officially Shutting Down – Here's Everything We Know
Hulu App Officially Shutting Down – Here's Everything We Know originally appeared on Parade. It's no secret that the world of entertainment is gravitating more and more towards streaming, with most audience members expressing a desire to access Netflix, Hulu or HBO Max instead of relying on their usual cable providers. Sadly for longtime users of Hulu, Disney has just announced that they'll be closing down the iconic streaming provider by 2026, allowing the company to streamline their digital library into one "unified" streaming platform. 'Today we are announcing a major step forward in strengthening our streaming offering by fully integrating Hulu into Disney+,' said CEO Bob Iger and CFO Hugh Johnston during the company's quarterly earnings call, as reported by Variety. "This will create an impressive package of entertainment, pairing the highest-caliber brands and franchises, great general entertainment, family programming, news and industry-leading live sports content in a single app," the two went on to say. As Iger and Johnston said on the call, this bold new plan is part of a larger initiative to consolidate Hulu and Disney+'s service together into a single supersized app. By doing so, the media company hopes to offer a more polished user interface, all the while increasing their app's efficiency and driving up revenue through the platform's ad services. 'By creating a truly differentiated streaming offering, we will be providing subscribers tremendous choice, convenience, quality, and enhanced personalization," the media giants said. "This will enhance our ability to continue to grow profitability and margins in our entertainment streaming business through expected higher engagement, lower churn, and advertising revenue potential, as well as operational efficiencies that over time may result in savings that we can reinvest back into the business.' While the Hulu app might be facing discontinuation, Hulu's exclusive content will make its way into Disney+'s catalog, allowing subscribers to enjoy their favorite movies and shows on Disney's larger streaming service. Additionally, the Disney executives revealed that work is currently underway to redesign Disney+'s homepage, as well as adding "exciting new features" that reflect the continuous changes within the app. 'Work is already underway to continue enhancing our technology, and over the coming months, we will be implementing numerous improvements within the Disney+ app, including exciting new features and a more personalized homepage,' Iger and Johnston said during the call.
