TOOK A PUN-T Sky Sports pundit replaced Nuno Espirito Santo as manager in one of most doomed spells in dugout
NUNO ESPIRITO SANTO is hoping to complete a stunning achievement by taking Nottingham Forest into the Champions League.
But he was once replaced by a Sky Sports pundit as manager at a previous job.

And that led to one of the most doomed and infamous spells in the dugout.
Santo, 51, spent 18 years as a curly-haired goalkeeper where he was largely a back-up for the No1.
That included during two stints at Porto, where he was part of the Champions League-winning squad under Jose Mourinho.
But after retiring as a player in 2010, the Portuguese stepped into management - firstly spending two years at Rio Ave in his homeland.

He would later go on to manage Porto before four years with Wolves, 17 games at Tottenham, a stint at Al-Ittihad and now working wonders at the City Ground.
But it was his second gaffer's gig that sparked the links to the TV pundit.
Santo led Rio Ave to the Europa League for the first time in their history at the end of his second season in charge.
And that saw him attract plenty of interest - including from Spain.

Santo signed a one-year deal in July 2014 to take over as Valencia manager.
By the January of that 2014-15 campaign, he signed a contract extension until 2018.
And he finished the season in fourth, taking four points off Real Madrid and picking up three LaLiga manager of the month awards.
However, Santo suffered a poor start to the following campaign in both the league and Champions League.
So much so that he resigned in November 2015.
His replacement was... Gary Neville.
Neville's brother Phil and Salvador Gonzalez took interim charge before Gary's appointment on December 5 - Gonzalez has stepped in to the Valencia dugout as makeshift temporary boss SEVEN times in total.
'MILLION MILES AWAY'
But things went horribly wrong for Neville, whose only previous coaching experience was as Roy Hodgson's assistant with England.
His lack of Spanish didn't help, either, and the ex-Manchester United defender failed to win any of his first nine LaLiga matches in charge.
Valencia were also stuffed 7-0 by Barcelona in a Copa del Rey thrashing and Neville was eventually put out of his misery on March 30 with three league wins from 16 and his side 14th in the table, just six points clear of the relegation zone.
Santo and Neville's managerial careers have gone in very different directions since.
The Portuguese gaffer succeeded at Wolves and is doing a tremendous job at Nottingham Forest, securing European football for next season.
Gary Neville's Valencia record
Dates 2 December 2015 to 30 March 2016
Matches 28
Wins 10
Draws 7
Defeats 11
Win % 35.71
Goals scored 39
Goals conceded 38
Goal difference +1
Biggest defeat 7-0 vs Barcelona
That was guaranteed with Sunday's eventful 2-2 draw with East Midlands rivals Leicester - but the result did put a major dent in Forest's Champions League qualification dreams.
And the match was overshadowed by Evangelos Marinakis storming on to the pitch to confront Santo about Taiwo Awoniyi's injury - which has seen the Nigerian placed in an induced coma after urgent surgery.
For Neville, though, he has turned his back on management - and now sticks to the TV studios and commentary gantries.
Reflecting on his Valencia nightmare and leaving coaching behind, he said: "It'll never happen, I'm a million miles away.
"I love football and the camaraderie but I don't want to be in that environment any more.
'It was an unbelievable opportunity and it didn't go as well as I wanted it to, but I enjoyed every minute and it taught me a lot and things I will apply to my business life.
'I don't regret going to Spain and I would have liked to have stayed in Valencia for 18 months, but I wouldn't have continued in coaching.
'The buzz from football up to the age of 32 was incredible and that can probably never be replaced, but compared to the last three years of my career, I enjoy what I'm doing now far more."

Swansea City in dialogue with Nottingham Forest over O'Brien as chief clears up transfer links

Swansea City in dialogue with Nottingham Forest over O'Brien as chief clears up transfer links Swansea haven't given up hope of a reunion next season and director of football Richard Montague has now confirmed the latest Lewis O'Brien did well at Swansea City (Image:) Swansea City's director of football Richard Montague insists the door hasn't yet been closed on a possible return for Lewis O'Brien this summer. The midfielder spent a hugely successful six-month loan spell with the Swans last season, starting all 16 games for the club after arriving in January and producing a string of eye-catching performances in the process. ‌ The 26-year-old has one year left on his current contract at Nottingham Forest, and the prospect of him breaking into their first-team plans appear slim, despite his exploits for the Swans. Sign up to the Swansea City WhatsApp service to get breaking news and top stories sent to your phone ‌ A host of Championship clubs have taken an interest, while Spanish giants Valencia are also understood to be admirers of the midfielder, but his next move remains shrouded in uncertainty. O'Brien is understood to have enjoyed his time in south Wales, and has similarly enjoyed a good relationship with head coach Alan Sheehan. Finances have already been mentioned as a key stumbling block were Swansea to show an interest in bringing him back, but Montague says the door is by no means closed on a possible reunion, adding that the club have already held discussions with his parent club. Article continues below "We have had good conversations with Forest," he added. "They were really good to deal with last season, they sent us a really nice message to thank us for how well Lewis did with us, which was great to receive. "We have a good dialogue with them. The ball is a little bit in their court at the moment because of Lewis' contract situation. He is on a Premier League salary and there needs to be some give in some sense to make it work for us. "But it's definitely an option that's still on the table. ‌ "We are talking to Lewis and having good conversations with Forest. We would love to be able to do something. It's just timing and matching it all up with the financial realities." Central midfield is an area the club are targeting in this window, although it seems they are not pursuing a deal for Lincoln City's Ethan Erhahon. Swansea had a bid for the 24-year-old knocked back earlier this month, and club insiders at the time indicated the Swans had ended their interest and moved on to other targets. ‌ Reports elsewhere later claimed the Swans were still circling for the Scotland under-21s international. However, those suggestions appear to be wide of the mark for now. 'We have talked about so many players and quite a lot have got to the point where we have spoken to agents or clubs," Montague continued. 'There isn't anything concrete in that one. I am happy to say he has been a player who has been lists but it's not progressing any further at this stage.' ‌ In terms of possible interest in their own players, Montague says there hasn't been any approach for midfield pair Goncalo Franco and Jay Fulton, both of whom have been the subject of speculation recently. Franco is understood to have caught the eye of clubs in England, Germany and Portugal, while Fulton has recently been linked with a move to Plymouth Argyle. 'Jay did unbelievably well for us when he came into the team at the back end of the season," Montague said. "He gave us some great minutes and is an unbelievable character. ‌ 'He is a senior player, which is probably lacking a bit in that age profile now with some of the key departures we had. 'Jay is an important player for us and there is no news about any offers or movement with Jay.' On Franco, he added: "I am aware of gossip and rumours. There is so much noise around this time of the year which is understandable because need things to write about. ‌ 'But until we have anything concrete, there is nothing for me to say about it. Sign up to our Swansea City newsletter here. 'He has obviously had a brilliant season and we would love to keep him here, so let's hope that's how it stays.' As well as central midfield, a centre-back is believed to be near the top of the summer wishlist - even if out-of-contract start Harry Darling decides to commit his future the club. Article continues below Swansea are already set to complete the signing of former Bolton Wanderers captain Ricardo Santos, but are actively look at further options, with Ben Cabango currently the only recognised senior centre-back on the books right now. They are also understood to have cast an eye over FC Sion's Gora Diouf in recent months, but he now doesn't appear to be a serious target as things stand.

Aberdeen sign 'highly-rated' German youth international Emmanuel Gyamfi

Aberdeen have signed German full-back Emmanuel Gyamfi, with the club saying they are delighted to have secured the signature of the 'highly-rated' young talent. The 20-year-old has moved from Bundesliga 2 side Schalke 04, and agreed a four-year deal with the Dons. Gyamfi came through Schalke's academy and spent time with VVV-Venlo in the Eerste Divisie last season. The full-back, who is described as versatile and attacking, says he can't wait to get started at his Scottish Cup-winning new side. 'I'm really happy to be here and so are my family, so I am ready to go,' he said. 'Now that everything is sorted, I can focus on pre-season, and I am going to work hard before training starts. 'I will give my best to help the team. I want to show the fans what I can do as this is a good club, and we all want to achieve even more than last season. 'It was nice to see all the fan celebrations after winning the cup. It motivates me to want to do it again as you can see how much they love Aberdeen. 'Obviously it's a dream to play in Europe, on that stage. It can be challenging but we are going to be ready as a team after a strong pre-season.' Aberdeen manager Jimmy Thelin said: ''Emmanuel is a player we have been monitoring for some time. He possess all the attributes we are looking for in a modern full-back. He's dynamic and has a great work ethic. 'His development at Schalke and his recent loan spell demonstrates his potential and we believe this will be the environment in which he can thrive.' Swansea City chief breaks silence on Oli McBurnie links and makes admission over strikers

Swansea City chief breaks silence on Oli McBurnie links and makes admission over strikers McBurnie is one of several options being looked at this summer Oli McBurnie is on the radar at Swansea (Image: 2025 Octavio Passos ) Swansea City's director of football Richard Montague has confirmed the club are mulling over an exciting move for Oli McBurnie. The 29-year-old looks set to move on from Spanish side Las Palmas this summer, with the terms of his contract allowing him to leave for nothing following their relegation from La Liga. ‌ Swansea have subsequently been pondering a move for the striker, but previous indications have suggested they are yet to make the player any sort of offer, with Hull City and Celta Vigo among the other clubs believed to be keeping tabs. Sign up to the Swansea City WhatsApp service to get breaking news and top stories sent to your phone ‌ 'I think everybody knows about Oli and his qualities and his situation as well," Montague said when quizzed on possible interest in the Scot. 'He is one we have spoken about and will be a name on various lists that we have. He is clearly a very, very good player but I'd be unwilling to say whether that's progressing or has progressed any further." McBurnie spent four years with the Swans, netting 26 goals in 62 games, before being sold to Sheffield United for around £17m in 2019. Article continues below His Premier League experience means he's likely to command a healthy financial package from any potential suitor, a point that has already been cited as a possible stumbling block to a reunion with the Swans. However, Montague says a deal is potentially feasible, but suggests it would have a knock-on effect in terms of recruitment elsewhere. Sign up to our Swansea City newsletter here. 'In theory a lot of things are conceivable," he said. "But it depends on where you are not going to spend money elsewhere. Not necessarily talking about Oli McBurnie, but it's all a puzzle where you say how much do we value a particular player, what can he add to us, and how much of our budget should we allocate to any player." ‌ Any move for a striker in this window is likely to depend on what happens with some of the players already in the building, with both Jerry Yates and Mykola Kuharevich returning from loan spells away. Neither player has yet been lined up for an exit, but it seems likely the Swans will listen to offers for the pair. 'I think all the options are on the table," Montague added when quizzed on Yates. "That will be largely dictated by what Jerry wants to do. ‌ 'He has had a really good season in a team that was struggling for points so he has done very well at this level. 'We need to have proper conversations with him and his agent to discuss what is the best way forward for him. Nothing is decided yet.' 'It's the same [with Kuharevich]. He had a pretty good season up in Scotland. Article continues below 'But we have attacking players so it's figuring out where everybody fits into that and who is not going to be able to get the minutes they want, which is why I think it's fair to say there will be outgoings at some points in the window.'
