Death toll rises to 17 in South Korea as rains cause landslide and floods
This brings the nationwide death toll to 17 with 11 people missing since the rain began on Wednesday, forcing more than 13,000 people to evacuate.
A landslide hit a campsite in Gapyeong, leaving a man in his 40s dead, two family members missing and 24 other people stranded, fire authorities said.
One person was rescued near the campsite by a zip-line across a raging river, according to footage released by fire officials. In another video, a helicopter is seen airlifting a person to safety.
South Korean President Lee Jae Myung ordered a swift assessment of the damage and the prompt designation of special disaster zones to increase state support.
The rainfall is likely to stop on Sunday and be followed by a heat wave, the government weather forecaster said on Sunday.
The heavy rainfall, which had earlier lashed southern parts of South Korea, moved north overnight, it said.

VILNIUS, Aug 13 (Reuters) - About 50-70% of Lithuania's agricultural harvest has been harmed or destroyed by heavy rainfall this summer, the government said on Wednesday as it declared a national emergency to help farmers. "In many places the farmers cannot harvest their crops because the fields are flooded," the government said in a statement, adding that much of the remaining harvest had been reduced in quality. Lithuania produces wheat and other grains as well as root crops such as potatoes but the government did not give a breakdown of which was worst hit. The Baltic country's rainfall in June and July was the second heaviest on record, exceeded only by 2007, it said. Neighbouring Latvia announced a national emergency on similar grounds last week, national broadcaster LSM reported. "This year's crop has suffered significantly and may not be harvested," said Latvian Agriculture Minister Armands Krauze.

Hamilton County Mayor Weston Wamp declared a state of emergency just before 8am Wednesday and will remain in effect until 9.30pm. Schools in the county are also closed along with several roadways, including I-24, due to the heavy rainfall.
