Maisie Smith reveals the moment she and boyfriend Max George were forced to go 'off grid' after a 'nightmare' fire ruined their holiday plans

Daily Mail3 days ago
Maisie Smith has recalled how her plans for a romantic holiday with her boyfriend Max George were thrown into chaos after a fire 'destroyed' their villa.
The EastEnders star, 24, had plans for a lavish trip to a villa in the south of France with The Wanted star, 36.
But in an appearance on Sunday Brunch, Maisie admitted she and Max went 'off grid' when they were forced to change their accomodation at the last minute, having learned the villa they'd booked had been 'destroyed' before they arrived.
The actress didn't seem particularly enthused by the new place they'd stayed, as she was grilled about her trip by host Tim Lovejoy.
Early in the show, Tim and co-host Simon Rimmer grilled Maisie on why they'd struggled to contact her prior to her appearance on the show.
She then admitted there was another reason she hadn't been answering her phone, saying: 'It was the South of France, it wasn't really off-grid, it's quite a common holiday destination.'
'But there was a fire and everything was destroyed. The house we were supposed to be staying in, it was destroyed.'
A surprised Tim then asked: 'So where did you stay,' and Maisie replied: 'In an airbnb, down the round from where we were supposed to be staying.'
'So all of your technical equipment was destroyed?' quizzed Tim as Maisie told him: 'No, we were on a lake.'
As Tim asked whether Maisie 'fished,' she replied: 'No but my boyfriend did?'
Tim seemed to notice that Maisie wasn't enthralled by her recent French break, as she awkwardly said: 'If you like to fish it was great... but if you didn't...'
The conversation was then cut short as the rest of the guests began giggling, before Tim moved the chat on to another guest.
The couple have been inseparable since making their romance Instagram official in August 2022.
Since leaving EastEnders in 2022, Maisie has starred in a string of stage roles, including Strictly Ballroom, and earlier this year she and Max starred together in the arena tour of Jeff Wayne's The War of the Worlds: The Spirit of Man,
In December, Max was fitted with a pacemaker after his mum Babs realised he had 'turned blue' and pushed for him to go to A&E.
He feared he would die, so at the time wrote out a will in his phone.
Max, who has been sober for over four years after previous liver issues, reflected on his journey after the op.
The Wanted singer explained that alcohol wasn't a factor in his condition, saying he gave up drinking after doctors flagged concerns about his liver following years of heavy partying on tour.
The Glad You Came hitmaker noted it is all a 'mystery' what has happened to him, although doctors have been able to eliminate some possible causes.

Woman praised for ‘genius' hack as she shares clever way she removes facial hair when she's forgotten her tweezers

A WOMAN has been praised for sharing a "genius" hack to remove unwanted facial hair when you haven't got any tweezers. Jenna explained that her mother had taught her the clever trick, which came in useful when she accidentally left her tweezers at home while on holiday. 4 4 4 4 In a video on her TikTok page, she showed how she used a Maybelline Baby Lips lip balm as her tweezers instead. "I did not pack tweezers and I have a nice black chin hair that apparently grew overnight," she began, pointing out the unwelcome visitor on her chin. She then uncapped the lip balm, before getting the hair in between the case of the product and the lid. As she did so carefully - to avoid giving herself a "blood blister" - Jenna managed to catch the hair, before closing the cap tight. The hack meant she was then able to effectively pluck the hair right out in one go. In the caption for the video, Jenna said that the method hasn't "failed me yet". "Life hack for when you don't have tweezers..." she added. "Use your @Maybelline NY baby lips lipstick. "Chin hairs don't stand a chance around here!" The comments section was almost immediately filled with people thanking Jenna for sharing the hack. I was so unrecognisable after excruciating facial treatment that my daughter banned me from doing the school run "I would never have the confidence to post this hack," one admitted. "I'm jealous that you are so hot and cool and did this effortlessly for the internet to see, but also I'm so grateful you changed my life !" "The hack no one asked for but we all needed," another added. "Your mother is genius! Thank you for sharing this hack," a third praised. "You just changed so many lives," someone else insisted. "Wait! what!?!? Legit life hack!!! Thank you!" another wrote. This year, expect to see a continued rise in demand for treatments that not only tackle hair loss but also nurture overall scalp health. "Stop it! Flipping genius. Thanks mama!" someone else gushed. While another called Jenna an "angel of my life", and added: "I will think of you and send you blessings every time I have to emergency pluck a chin hair for the rest of my life!" "Definitely gonna get caught doing this in my cubicle now, so thank you in advance," someone else laughed. Meanwhile, others used the comments section to share the other inventive ways they have managed to remove their unwanted facial hair without tweezers. "I use the hinge on my glasses," one wrote. "Harder to do, but I have used two coins before," another said. "I once plucked my girlfriend's chin hair with my teeth!" a third admitted.

Jessie J reveals her hair has been falling out 'like crazy' following mastectomy and breast cancer battle ahead of undergoing more surgery

Jessie J has revealed her hair has been falling out 'like crazy' in a candid Instagram video on Wednesday, amid her breast cancer battle. The singer, 37, has been recovering from breast cancer surgery since June, which saw her undergo a mastectomy. In a clip she filmed two weeks ago, Jessie also gave fans a life update as she prepares to go down for surgery again. Jessie, who is mother to two-year-old-son Sky, said: 'My hair has been falling out like crazy since the surgery. Five weeks today since my surgery and I'm feeling okay. 'I've still got quite a lot of cording so that's my main focus.' Cording, also known as Axillary Web Syndrome (AWS), is a condition where cord-like structures develop under the skin, typically in the inner arm, after breast cancer surgery, especially lymph node removal. It can feel like a tight band or rope, causing pain and restricted movement in the arm and shoulder. She added: 'My boobs still aren't even, it's still so sore. And this is my old, aw you're not old [breast]'. 'I'm just trying to figure out what the next six months will look like. I know I can't do everything that I was suppose to be doing but I just want to be able to make it work the best I can for everybody, me, Sky, my fans but in the right order. 'You are always gonna leave some people disappointed. My perspective on everything has changed so much.' Last week, Jessie revealed she has to undergo more surgery just days after she was rushed to hospital with an infection and fluid on her lungs. While she is now back at home, the Price Tag singer revealed that she'll soon be back in surgery, yet insisted she wouldn't let it get in the way of parenting and making new music. In a lengthy Instagram post, Jessie shared: 'I can rest, parent AND release new music. 'I didn't leave a major label after 18 years to be scared to re write the rules to fit around my life / health and just make it realistic on what I can deliver in all roles in my life.' She then revealed her upcoming surgery when she penned: 'Another surgery needed this year. I can do it.' Jessie continued: 'Raising a toddler. I can do it. Releasing new music. I can do it. 'It will look different to what I had planned but that's life, things change and either we panic and get mad that it isn't what is was going to be, or we ADAPT. 'I'm just flowing with life and giving the best I can. Instead of stopping and disappearing and waiting for the timing to be perfect to release music again. 'It's never the perfect time. Because grown up life is layered and has highs and lows and we just have to keep living in all of it. So here I am. LIVING. 'And I just want you to have the music. Deal?' She later added that she can be a 'creative artist, present mother and healing patient, all at the same time', alongside a magic ward emoji. Jessie previously admitted she went into 'survival mode' upon learning of her cancer diagnosis, but is now letting herself feel angry and sad in equal measure. Sharing an Instagram post in June, she wrote: Jessie wrote: '2 weeks post surgery. Had my drain out 2 nights ago. She said breathe in and take a hard breathe out. She whipped that thang out so quick. Woii oii. Weirdest feeling. But so nice to have it out after 12 days. 'Now it's just me and my wonky boobs trying to figure out how to dress until I match them up. The left one is looking at me like 'you ok babe?''. She continued: 'Also my experience was when I was diagnosed I went into survival mode. There was so much going on with appointments and in my mind esp with a toddler I had just moved and was about to start this campaign after 8 years away. Mad. 'I didn't really have a lot of time to process what was happening or what was going to happen. So I'm currently experiencing some delayed sadness and frustration by having time to process what IS happening. 'A little disappointed in myself I didn't say goodbye to my old boob enough. Sounds silly but that's where I'm at. Again that's my journey. I'm sure others feel different. 'But for me I didn't think beyond the surgery. I was just being strong. Well now I'm here and letting myself be angry and sad and all the things. Just for a few days. Then I will sew some padding in a bra to even them out order some t-shirts and crack tf on'. Jessie previously confirmed that she is not cancer free, a day after posting her hopes to be rid of the disease. The singer said last month her previous post had been 'misunderstood' and while she was 'praying' for good news, the cancer at present had unfortunately not 'all gone'. Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers in the world and affects more than two MILLION women a year Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers in the world. Each year in the UK there are more than 55,000 new cases, and the disease claims the lives of 11,500 women. In the US, it strikes 266,000 each year and kills 40,000. But what causes it and how can it be treated? What is breast cancer? It comes from a cancerous cell which develops in the lining of a duct or lobule in one of the breasts. When the breast cancer has spread into surrounding tissue it is called 'invasive'. Some people are diagnosed with 'carcinoma in situ', where no cancer cells have grown beyond the duct or lobule. Most cases develop in those over the age of 50 but younger women are sometimes affected. Breast cancer can develop in men, though this is rare. Staging indicates how big the cancer is and whether it has spread. Stage 1 is the earliest stage and stage 4 means the cancer has spread to another part of the body. The cancerous cells are graded from low, which means a slow growth, to high, which is fast-growing. High-grade cancers are more likely to come back after they have first been treated. What causes breast cancer? A cancerous tumour starts from one abnormal cell. The exact reason why a cell becomes cancerous is unclear. It is thought that something damages or alters certain genes in the cell. This makes the cell abnormal and multiply 'out of control'. Although breast cancer can develop for no apparent reason, there are some risk factors that can increase the chance, such as genetics. What are the symptoms of breast cancer? The usual first symptom is a painless lump in the breast, although most are not cancerous and are fluid filled cysts, which are benign. The first place that breast cancer usually spreads to is the lymph nodes in the armpit. If this occurs you will develop a swelling or lump in an armpit. How is breast cancer diagnosed? Initial assessment: A doctor examines the breasts and armpits. They may do tests such as a mammography, a special x-ray of the breast tissue which can indicate the possibility of tumours. Biopsy: A biopsy is when a small sample of tissue is removed from a part of the body. The sample is then examined under a microscope to look for abnormal cells. The sample can confirm or rule out cancer. If you are confirmed to have breast cancer, further tests may be needed to assess if it has spread. For example, blood tests, an ultrasound scan of the liver or a chest X-ray. How is breast cancer treated? Treatment options which may be considered include surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and hormone treatment. Often a combination of two or more of these treatments are used. Surgery: Breast-conserving surgery or the removal of the affected breast depending on the size of the tumour. Radiotherapy: A treatment which uses high energy beams of radiation focused on cancerous tissue. This kills cancer cells, or stops them from multiplying. It is mainly used in addition to surgery. Chemotherapy: A treatment of cancer by using anti-cancer drugs which kill cancer cells, or stop them from multiplying. Hormone treatments: Some types of breast cancer are affected by the 'female' hormone oestrogen, which can stimulate the cancer cells to divide and multiply. Treatments which reduce the level of these hormones, or prevent them from working, are commonly used in people with breast cancer. How successful is treatment? The outlook is best in those who are diagnosed when the cancer is still small, and has not spread. Surgical removal of a tumour in an early stage may then give a good chance of cure. The routine mammography offered to women between the ages of 50 and 71 means more breast cancers are being diagnosed and treated at an early stage.

Billi Mucklow shows off her sensational revenge body in bikini on family holiday - as her ex Andy Carroll 'dumps girlfriend Lou Teasdale'

showed off her revenge body in a brown bikini on a family holiday on Tuesday - on the same day her ex Andy Carroll reportedly dumped her girlfriend Lou Teasdale. Former TOWIE star Billi, 37, split from the footballer last year and he quickly moved on from her with Lou - but now it has been claimed they have sensationally broken up. It comes just two months after it was reported that the former Premier League striker, 36, was questioned twice by Greek police over a series of bust-ups with Lou, 41, while the pair holidayed in Mykonos, Greece. The pair, who were together for just over a year, have now unfollowed each other on social media and Andy has wiped all trace of Lou from his Instagram. And as news of the 'split' broke Billi took to Instagram to show off her figure the flattering two piece which highlighted her toned abs and long legs. She was enjoying a glass of wine as she relaxed in Mallorca and accessorised with dark shades while wearing her blonde tresses in loose waves over her shoulders. She captioned her snap: 'Another beautiful day in the ☀️with my family.' Billi is living her best life on the Spanish island with her family as Andy has reportedly split from Lou. The pair, who were together for just over a year, have now unfollowed each other on social media and Andy has wiped all trace of Lou from his Instagram. A source told The Sun: 'Andy got sick of Lou's demands and her influencer lifestyle. 'She's always posting on social media and he hates that. He told her it was over this week. He's single now.' The father-of-five returned to the UK with Dagenham & Redbridge last month after a two-year spell in France. The insider added: 'It's been a tough time and now he's back in the UK, he just wants to focus on football and his kids. 'He hates the influencer lifestyle. He has no interest in posing for loved-up pics.' Daily Mail has approached Andy and Lou's representatives for comment. The couple's last public outing was at an Oasis gig at the end of July, where they packed on the PDA, proving they were still together. The date night came after the ex footballer was interrogated about the arguments with his make-up artist lover in a restaurant and at their hotel on the Greek party island, The Sun on Sunday reports. Speaking about the first incident, a worker at the Nikolus Tavern told the newspaper: 'He seemed very drunk and furious with his partner. 'He was using very bad words. It was improper behaviour. The woman looked very upset.' According to the restaurant worker, police arrived and took the ex-Liverpool, Newcastle United and England striker aside for a chat, before he was later allowed back to girlfriend Lou. 'Police spoke to him. He was allowed to return, and the couple left after paying for their meal. Andy was very calm when the police arrived — he stood up and spoke to them outside the restaurant', the restaurant worker added. Just hours later, cops were called again by hotel staff following reports of damage in their room. Daily Mail understands that the former England forward - once Britain's most expensive Premier League footballer when bought by Liverpool from Newcastle for £35million - was taken to the police station for questioning, but he was not arrested and no further action was taken. The incident was confirmed by a hotel employee, who claimed Carroll broke the door. That night, Lou left the hotel and spent the night at Soho Roc House. A joint statement from the couple given to The Sun said: 'Whilst having a private dinner in a restaurant on a quiet holiday in Mykonos, we had a heated discussion of the sort that most couples have had on occasion. It quickly became apparent to the police that there was no reason for them to be there. 'We went outside the restaurant with them together as they insisted they wanted to 'look after' us. 'As far as we are concerned, the situation has been blown out of all proportion by an interested member of the public. No one was arrested and no one was charged with anything. We are very happy, in love and looking forward to our future together and we are disappointed that a private disagreement has become a public matter.' The pair began dating last year after he separated from his TOWIE star wife Billi last September. Carroll and Mucklow called it quits divorce after two years of turbulent marriage, the footballer confirmed last year. In 2022, their wedding was almost called off when Carroll was pictured drunkenly passed out in bed with two women in Dubai on his stag do. Mucklow forgave him after one of the women insisted nothing sexual happened. Less than two years after their nuptials, the couple's marriage was over - with Carroll confirming they had started divorce proceedings after 'a hard few months for our family'. Carroll said in a statement at the time: 'Billi and I have privately separated earlier this year and we are under way with our divorce proceedings'. 'It has been a hard few months for our family and we continue to move forward amicably for our children.' Carroll and Mucklow have three children together Arlo, Wolf, and Marvel Mae and she also raises his two children Emilie Rose, 15, and Lucas, 14 from his past relationship.
