National Butterscotch Brownie Day: The sweetest excuse to ditch your diet
It's
National Butterscotch Brownie Day
— the unsung hero of dessert holidays — and it's the perfect time to loosen that belt and indulge in fudgy, golden deliciousness that tastes like a warm hug from your mom.
There's no official birth certificate for the butterscotch brownie, but legend has it they emerged in American kitchens sometime in the mid-20th century. Possibly by accident — which, let's be honest, is how most great food was invented. Someone probably ran out of chocolate chips and had to improvise with brown sugar and butter.

And bless that person, because the result is a soft, chewy square of gold that makes your tastebuds throw a dance party.
Fast-forward to today, and these are finally getting the spotlight they deserve — with a whole national day dedicated to their gooey greatness.
In a world of emails, traffic jams, unread texts, and social media doomscrolling, the universe is practically begging us to slow down and treat ourselves. What better way to celebrate life's tiny pleasures than with a golden, buttery square of joy?
Plus, think of the benefits:
Mood boost: Butterscotch brownies don't judge.
They understand.
Social currency: Bring a tray of these to work and become Employee of the Month.
Self-care: You deserve joy. And maybe a second brownie. Okay fine, a third.
Sweet nostalgia: One bite takes you back to your mom's kitchen circa 1998.
What makes them so addictive?
It's that perfect trifecta: butter, brown sugar, and a touch of vanilla. When baked just right, it's chewy at the edges, soft in the middle, and smells like heaven moved into your oven.
Optional (but highly encouraged) add-ins include white chocolate chips, toasted pecans, sea salt sprinkles, and a drizzle of caramel that'll make your dentist weep.
Pro tip: Use dark brown sugar for deeper flavor. And don't overbake them — unless you enjoy chewing cardboard with hints of sadness.
How to celebrate National Butterscotch Brownie Day
Whether you're a seasoned baker or a microwave master, there's more than one way to honor the glorious day. Here are a few fun ideas:
Break out your mixing bowls and treat your kitchen like the set of a TV show.
Classic butterscotch brownie recipes are super easy and don't require anything fancy — just a love for butter and zero fear of calories.
Invite your friends or coworkers and let everyone bring their own version of the butterscotch brownie. Award prizes for "Most Gooey," "Best Surprise Ingredient," and "So Good I Blacked Out While Eating It."
Coffee? Yes. Bourbon? Even better. Vanilla ice cream? Now we're talking. Butterscotch brownies pair beautifully with rich, creamy, or slightly bitter drinks that complement their sweetness.
Think espresso shots, chai lattes, or even a dark stout.
Fun Butterscotch Brownie twists you need to try
Butterscotch Brownie Cheesecake Bars: Because two desserts are better than one.
Salted Caramel Swirl brownies: A salty-sweet punch to your face, in a good way.
Espresso-Infused Butterscotch Brownies: For when dessert also needs to wake you up.
Vegan or Gluten-Free Options: Yes, they exist. Yes, they're shockingly good. No, they don't taste like sadness.
In the grand scheme of life, taking a day to celebrate a chewy square of brown sugar and buttery goodness might seem trivial. But isn't that the point? In a world that often moves too fast, National Butterscotch Brownie Day reminds us to slow down, savor, and take a bite out of something just because it makes us happy.
So here's your permission slip to indulge. Bake it, eat it, share it, or hoard it — just don't let May 9 pass without at least one delicious, melt-in-your-mouth moment. Your soul (and your sweet tooth) will thank you.
Happy Butterscotch Brownie Day!

Akola's Kawad Festival: 1,001 Kalash Kawad main attraction, over 50,000 devotees witness grand celebration
1 2 3 4 5 6 Akola: The renowned Kawad Festival of Akola, held on the last Monday of Marathi Shravan month, once again drew massive crowds and showcased devotion on a grand scale. The city streets echoed with chants of "Bam-Bam Bhole" as nearly 150 palkhis and 250 kawads arrived with water from the Purna River. The festival saw a gathering of more than 50,000 devotees, not just from Vidarbha but also from Solapur, Nashik, Indore and Andhra Pradesh. This year's highlight was a special tableau dedicated to Operation Sindoor, which became the centre of attraction for the devotees. Every year, devotees carry holy water from the Purna River, about 20 kilometres from Akola. Beginning their journey on Sunday, they walked overnight and performed Jalabhishek at the sacred Rajrajeshwar Shivlinga on Monday. This tradition has been followed for the last eight decades. Among the 250 kawads, the most spectacular was the 1001 Kalash Kawad, weighing nearly five tonnes. It was carried by 2,500–3,000 kawad bearers, making it the biggest attraction of this year's procession. Alongside the kawads, Maa's palkhi and Rajrajeshwar Maharaj's palkhi drew huge crowds, with thousands of devotees gathering for darshan. The vibrant palkhis and tableaux added grandeur to the festive spirit. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Cardiologist: Pink Salt, The Greatest Enemy of Body Fat (Watch) GoldenEraCoverage Undo A special feature this year was the large participation of women kawad bearers, who carried holy water from the Purna River and offered it to Lord Bholenath, making the event more inclusive and devotional. According to Akola SP, Archit Chandak, this step ensured a safe and peaceful completion of the festival. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI). Unchain university students from desks
Global rankings for 2025 have triggered fresh bouts of soul-searching within India's higher education sector. While explanations abound—from resource limitations to lack of internationalisation—one critical but under-recognised factor continues to undermine true educational excellence quietly: India's near-unchallenged obsession with prolonged, in-class direct teaching and rigid requirements for on-campus presence. This deep-seated attachment to the classroom as the central, even exclusive, site of learning is symptomatic of broader systemic problems, and urgently demands reflection. The current controversy at the University of Delhi over the mandated 12-hour daily on-campus presence for students is both emblematic and alarming. Why do our institutions cling so stubbornly to the notion that more hours corralled in classrooms necessarily translates into better learning? And, more importantly, what do we lose by doing so, both as individuals and as a collective academic community aspiring towards global standards? To understand this persistence, one must reach back to the origins of the 'factory model' of education, devised during colonial and industrial times to produce disciplined, predictable workers rather than intellectually-agile citizens. Indian academia has inherited not just the infrastructure but also the attitudes of this antiquated, control-centred approach. We have equated rigorous supervision with quality, time in class with learning, and discipline with genuine engagement. However, research in educational psychology and the lived experience of leading universities worldwide have since revealed that this equation is flawed. Global pedagogical thought, influenced by figures such as Lev Vygotsky, Jean Piaget and John Dewey, champions the idea that knowledge is actively constructed, not passively absorbed. Learning is context-rich, socially mediated and deeply self-directed. And yet, in India, the 'teacher as sole authority, student as vessel' model persists, out-of-step with both research and the demands of the 21st century.

School van falls into ditch; 31 kids injured
T'puram: A private van carrying children to St Shantal English Medium School plunged into a roadside ditch at Malamukal in Vattiyoorkavu on Monday morning. The van lost control while reversing on a narrow stretch, overturned and fell into the nearby ditch. However, 31 students and a teacher who were onboard all escaped with minor injuries. They sought treatment at a private hospital in Sasthamangalam. General education minister V Sivankutty, accompanied by Vattiyoorkavu MLA V K Prasanth, visited the hospital to check on the injured. The minister promised safety measures to prevent similar incidents, emphasizing that "it was a close call and it could have been much worse." A teacher at the scene attributed the mishap to poor road conditions and absence of safety handrails. Locals echoed these concerns, pointing out that private vehicles drop off students on the roadside rather than entering the school premises. Eyewitnesses say the van lost control while reversing and subsequently slid into the ditch. According to Vattiyoorkavu police, the students had a similar narrow escape when the van went out of control and fell into a pit on a hilly terrain recently. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo Residents have long expressed concern over the safety of this stretch, especially during school hours.
