Kelantan Govt To Settle AKSB's RM61 Mln TNB Arrears In Stages

KOTA BHARU, Aug 13 (Bernama) -- The Kelantan government has acknowledged that Air Kelantan Sdn Bhd (AKSB) owes Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) RM61 million in outstanding electricity bills and will settle the amount in stages.
State Infrastructure, Water and Rural Development Committee chairman Datuk Dr Izani Husin said the arrears were partly due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the Movement Control Order, which hindered bill collection, coupled with some residents withholding payment during frequent water supply disruptions.
'TNB has met with us to discuss possible solutions, but no agreement has been finalised. We will discuss further to determine a repayment schedule. With AKSB's improved management, we are confident the debt will be cleared according to the agreed timeline,' he told reporters after the weekly state executive council meeting at Kompleks Kota Darulnaim today.

Pahang tahfiz schools receive RM3.5m boost for infrastructure upgrades

KUANTAN: The Pahang State Legislative Assembly heard today about joint efforts between state and federal authorities to upgrade infrastructure at private tahfiz schools. Datuk Seri Syed Ibrahim Syed Ahmad revealed the federal government disbursed RM3.5 million last year to 31 institutions for facility improvements. The state government complemented this through its Makmur Pahang initiative by granting RM2,000 annually to each school since 2022. Syed Ibrahim addressed queries from Lantikan Assemblyman Haris Salleh Hamzah about registered tahfiz institutions and their development plans. Official records show 136 private tahfiz schools currently operate with valid registration across Pahang. Another 56 institutions await approval from the Pahang Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council for operational clearance. The state also oversees 37 government-run tahfiz kindergartens employing 157 educators for 1,180 pupils statewide. Annual operational funding for these institutions totals RM7.4 million from state coffers. Financial aid includes RM250 per student for B40 families, amounting to RM2.52 million in targeted assistance. - Bernama

Sultan Of Perak Opens Sultan Muzzaffar Shah Bridge

KUALA KANGSAR, Aug 14 (Bernama) -- The Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah, today inaugurated the Sultan Muzzaffar Shah Bridge at Dataran Manong here. Sultan Nazrin and the Raja Permaisuri of Perak, Tuanku Zara Salim, arrived at 11 am, accompanied by Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad and his wife Datin Seri Aezer Zubin. Also present were Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi and Public Works Department (JKR) director-general Datuk Roslan Ismail. In his speech, Nanta said the 300-metre-long Sultan Muzzaffar Shah Bridge and three-kilometre connecting road now link Pekan Manong and Kampung Seberang Manong, reuniting two communities that were once separated by a river. 'The construction of this bridge not only improves mobility for the people, but also strengthens community ties, stimulates the growth of tourism, trade, and agriculture sectors, as well as opens more economic opportunities for residents in the surrounding areas,' he said. Nanta said the infrastructure also stands as a symbol of well-planned progress, reflecting the commitment of the federal and state governments in line with the Malaysia MADANI spirit, which upholds humanitarian values, sustainability, well-being, and social justice. He also expressed his deepest appreciation to all parties who worked tirelessly to ensure the successful construction of the bridge. 'I believe that with the cooperation between the federal and state governments, more high-impact development projects can be implemented in Perak Darul Ridzuan for the well-being of its people,' he said. The Sultan Muzzaffar Shah Bridge, a project under the 11th Malaysia Plan costing more than RM37 million, was completed on Oct 25, 2019.
