HC quashes order on Chandni Chowk panel
A bench of chief justice DK Upadhyay and justice Tushar Rao Gedela expressed strong displeasure, rebuking the government for forming the committee without court approval.
When the matter came up, the bench questioned why the government had not already withdrawn the order despite acknowledging the mistake. 'If this is their attitude... What is all this? It's too much,' the bench remarked.
PWD standing counsel Sameer Vashisht told the court that the order was issued with the intent to preserve and restore Chandni Chowk, but that officials had misunderstood the court's February 18 directive, which had only sought suggestions for such a committee.
Following submissions, the court directed immediate withdrawal of the March 26 order, stating, 'Accordingly, the order be withdrawn at the earliest.' The matter will be heard next on July 9.
The case stems from a petition filed by the Chandni Chowk Sarv Vyapar Mandal, which alleged administrative apathy and sought action against damage, deficiencies, and illegalities within the Chandni Chowk Redevelopment Project — from Subhash Marg to Fatehpuri Masjid, including areas around the metro station. The petitioner claimed the ₹140-crore project was being undermined by poor coordination among government agencies, resulting in public inconvenience.
On February 18, the court had indicated its intent to form a committee with officials from the PWD, MCD, and Delhi Police to address these issues. The court had emphasized that Chandni Chowk was not merely a commercial zone but also of 'historical importance,' attracting lakhs of tourists. Despite this, the PWD unilaterally constituted a committee and issued a mandate for it on March 26.
On Wednesday, the court had asked the Delhi government to explain how the PWD issued the order without court authorisation, setting the stage for Thursday's directive for immediate withdrawal.

'Delhi will definitely change, but this shamelessness of dancing around with the report card of its own failure is only possible in AAP!' Mishra said in a post in Hindi. Atishi, in her letter to CM Gupta, highlighted multiple incidents that have happened during this monsoon season. Minister Dr G Parameshwara: Firms keen on Metro to Tumakuru
TUMAKURU: Home Minister Dr G Parameshwara here on Friday expressed confidence that the Metro Rail project from Bengaluru will be extended to Tumakuru as some companies have expressed interest to implement the project under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. 'The Metro Rail feasibility report was submitted to the government and it will be presented before the cabinet or technical committee. Some companies have come forward to implement the project and a special purpose vehicle (SPV) will be floated to run the project. The median running along the National Highway will be used, and for that permission from the Centre is required. If the sanction is not given, we will plan an alternative,' he said after taking part in the 78th Independence Day celebrations at the Mahatma Gandhi stadium here. Metro and suburban rails are two possible transport projects between Bengaluru and Tumakuru, Kolar, Mysuru, Kanakapura and Nelamangala. The cabinet approved an allocation of Rs 25 crore for a feasibility study. He said the work on the six-lane National Highway between Bengaluru and Tumakuru is in progress and it will be converted to ten lanes. The minister said CM Siddaramaiah, PWD minister Satish Jarkiholi and he met Union Surface Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari to discuss this project. Deputy Commissioner Subha Kalyan and Superintendent of Police Ashok KV have cleared some bottlenecks and the work will be completed by 2026, he said. He hoped that the construction of a new international cricket stadium near Tumakuru by the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) will help prevent stampedes like the one at M Chinnaswamy stadium that claimed the lives of 11. The government has already handed over 41 acres to KSCA, but the project was delayed after the cricket association was busy battling issues related to the stampede, he said. KSCA has made a provision of Rs 160 crore for the stadium.

Karnataka will set up competitive exam training centre in Delhi, says Minister
The State government will establish a competitive training centre in New Delhi for candidates from Karnataka, PWD Minister Satish Jarkiholi said in Belagavi on Friday. The centre will train students from the general, SC/ST, and OBC categories. Around ₹60 crore will be spent on the building construction, the Minister said. The centre will focus on training students in UPSC and other competitive examinations, he said. He was speaking at the Independence Day celebrations. This would be taken up under the SCP and TSP scheme. It will provide a grant of ₹25 crore to set up a Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Cultural Center, hostel, training centre, and basic infrastructure in Bengaluru. For the first time, a grant of ₹20 crore will be spent on developing vacant sites under the pilot scheme and reallocate sites to the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes families, he said. He said that some long projects in Belagavi will be launched soon. CM Siddaramaiah will launch work on the flyover work, the new Deputy Commissioner's office, and the new building of Patrika Bhavan next month. The Patrika Bhavan would be built at the cost of ₹10 crore. Work in the first phase of the flyover will start from Sankam Hotel and end at Ashoka Circle, RTO Circle, Channamma Circle, Bogarves Circle. Work on the 4.5 km flyover at a cost of ₹200 crore will start by September. He told reporters that the Irrigation Department had set a target of providing water to 1 lakh hectares of area in Belagavi. Priority would be given to filling projects. The state government is committed to the comprehensive development of the Saundatti Yallamma temple and Saundatti town at a cost of ₹215 crore. Already, administrative approval has been accorded, and the tender process has begun. Tourism Development Minister H.K. Patil is keen on this project, he said. In Belagavi, a new Deputy Commissioner's office would be built at the cost of ₹55 crore. The Chief Minister will also inaugurate several works that he had launched in his first term. Most of them were complete now, the Minister said. The district stadium will receive a grant of ₹10 crore per year.
