
Group of four terrorists active in Basantgarh area: Jammu IGP
Jammu, June 26 (UNI) Inspector General of Police Jammu Zone Bhim Sen Tuti today said that a group of four terrorists is believed to be active for the last one year in Basantgarh area of Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir.
A gunfight erupted between terrorists and security forces this morning in remote village of Basantgarh.
Officials said that acting on tip-off about the movement of terrorists, a joint team of police and Army launched a search operation in the general area of Sazi, near Karoor Nallah in Basantgarh.
"The search party was fired upon by the terrorists, which was retaliated," they said.
IGP Tuti, speaking to media at the sidelines of a function, said an encounter took place between terrorists and security forces in Basantgarh area of Udhampur district of Jammu on Thursday morning.
The IGP also said that J&K Police have made elaborate arrangements for this year's Amarnath Yatra.
Tuti said that the encounter between terrorists and security forces started at around 8:30 am, adding, "the weather in Basantgarh is currently bad and as soon as it improves, the situation will be clear."
The IGP said that for the last one year, police had information about the presence of terrorists with whom contact was established this morning, adding , "this is believed to be a same group of around four terrorists active for the last one year."
On the security of Amarnath Yatra, Jammu Zone IGP said that J&K Police was ready to ensure the safety of every pilgrim.
He said that the number of companies of paramilitary forces provided to the police for the security of Amarnath Yatra this year is much higher than in previous years.
"This year we have been provided with about 30 more companies", he said, adding that this year elaborated security arrangements are in place from Jammu to Lakhanpur with additional deployment of security personnel along the highway.
On advisory for pilgrims, he said that Shri Amarnath Yatra pilgrims who wish to start their Yatra from Jammu are advised to join only the official convoys for a safe and secure journey. They should avoid independent travel.
Meanwhile, Jammu-based White Knight Corps in a post on X said, "Based on specific intelligence, a joint operation was launched by Indian Army and J&K Police in the Bihali area of Basantgarh."
"Contact has been established with terrorists. The operation is currently in progress," the Army said.

Jammu Crime Branch files charge-sheets for duping civilians on managing MBBS seats, Visas, jobs
Jammu, June 26 (UNI) The Jammu Crime Branch on Thursday filed five charge-sheets against several accused for duping people of their hard-earned money on the pretext of arranging MBBS seats, visas and jobs. The accused had duped people of an amount of over 35 lakh rupees. The Crime Branch as per the handout, has produced challan against accused namely Alok Kumar of Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, Maneer Ahmed Bhat of Gandoh Bhalessa, Doda against whom FIR was registered and proved on the complaint of Dr Mumtaz Hussian Shah Bukhari from Surankote, Poonch wherein it was alleged that accused duped him of Rs. 12 lakhs for arranging two MBBS seats to his daughters in Batra Hospital Sidhra, Jammu. In another case, it is stated that registered and proved on the complaint of Rakesh Kumar of Rattanpur Gajansoo Marh, Jammu regarding duping Rs.9.42 lakh on the pretext of providing machinery for business, Crime Branch submitted challan against Prop of M/S Vijay Industries Rakesh Sareen of Vikas Nagar, Uttam Nagar Delhi. In yet another case, the handout stated that the Crime Branch has filed charge-sheet against accused Shafiq Ahmed Lone of Ferozpura, Tangmarg, District Baramulla, Kashmir, Mohd Inam-Ul-Haq of New Delhi, Firoz khan of Noida (UP) for duping complainant Satpal Sharma of Ward Number 13 R S Pura Jammu of Rs 6,50,000 for providing fake and forged Visa and fake job offer letters to his son. The Crime Branch also submitted a charge-sheet against accused Varinder Kumar of Sirhind Fatehgarh Sahib, Punjab. FIR was registered and proved upon written complaint of Vijay Kumar of Village Sailsul, Tehsil Kalakote, Rajouri alleging therein that accused duped him of his huge hard-earned money on the pretext of arranging work visa. Senior Superintendent of Police Crime Jammu, Benam Tosh said that besides, Crime Branch also produced challan against accused Pawan Kumar of Chandigarh, Naresh Kumar of Chandigarh against whom FIR was registered and proved on the written complaint of Bachan Lal, Sudhir Kumar, both from Gho Manhasan, Jammu, who alleged that they were duped of Rs. Rs 6.41 lakh on the pretext of providing jobs as supervisors in Pirus Security and Allied Services Pvt. Ltd. Honeymoon Murder: 3 Meghalaya Locals Arrested For Tampering With Evidence
Guwahati: Three persons, all accused of tampering with evidence and obstructing justice in the Raja Raghuvanshi murder case, were sent to police custody for six days. Lokendra Singh Tomar, Silome James and Balveer Ahirbar were arrested from Indore in Madhya Pradesh and produced before a court in Shillong. James, the first among the three to be arrested, is a property dealer who had given a flat on rent to murder co-accused Vishal Chauhan. It was at this flat that Raja's wife Sonam Raghuvanshi had remained hidden from May 26 to June 8, before she was seen at a dhaba in Uttar Pradesh's Ghazipur and arrested. Ahirbar was the security guard in the same apartment complex where Sonam was hiding and is believed to possess vital information regarding the movements of the accused at the flat. He allegedly helped James in tampering with evidence. Tomar of the Indore flat in question. He had allegedly instructed James to take all the belongings of Sonam's from the flat. The arrests are the latest development in the case pertaining to Indore-based businessman Raja Raghuvanshi's murder on May 23 in Meghalaya's East Khasi hills, while he was on his honeymoon.
