The experience begins upon entry. The interior is undeniably sophisticated, radiating a chic, fine-dining ambiance perfect for a special culinary journey.
Visiting the Riyadh branch located in the King Abdullah Financial District, the service was impeccable, significantly elevating the evening. Our server was a knowledgeable guide, tailoring recommendations and orchestrating a seamless flow of dishes.
The culinary adventure started strong. The Kuuru ceviche was a standout, incredibly fresh and complex. Be advised: Its vibrant acidity is boldly and intensely sour, a hallmark purists adore but some palates might find assertive.
The hotate aburi offered rich, creamy scallop perfection. The tiradito hotate, featuring luxurious Hokkaido scallops and truffle, delivered exquisite flavor, though a touch more textural contrast (perhaps a crisp element) would have elevated its otherwise soft composition.
The Nikkei-style nigiri maintained excellence. The nakka truffle (salmon belly) was beautifully balanced and simple, while the wagyu a lo pobre with the quail egg added to the umami experience.
The niku karashi main course featured a succulent grilled ribeye, perfectly complemented by Nikkei chimichurri and Japanese sweet mustard atop smooth potato puree.
Dessert provided a satisfying finale. The Lima chocoreto combined moist chocolate cake with Peruvian manjar (dulce de leche), ganache, and honeycomb — rich yet not cloying.
The signature Aka sour cocktail proved a vibrant companion throughout but may have been overpowering on the palate, especially with the already sour element to the dishes I ordered.
My verdict is that Kuuru offers a compelling, multisensory Nikkei experience within Riyadh's upscale dining scene. While the ceviche's sourness is authentic and the tiradito hotate could benefit from added texture, these are minor notes in an otherwise superb symphony.
Backed by stellar service, a distinctive menu, and an elegant setting, Kuuru is a must-visit destination for adventurous food lovers seeking memorable fusion.

KSrelief signs program to help orphans
RIYADH: The Saudi aid agency KSrelief has signed via conference call a joint executive program with a civil society organization dedicated to the care of orphans in Montenegro. The agreement, which will help 400 orphans, was signed by Ahmed bin Ali Al-Baiz, the assistant supervisor general for operations and programs at KSrelief, and Rifaat Vizic, president of the Islamic Sheikhdom and grand mufti of Montenegro. As part of the agreement, each orphan will receive $60 per month to cover living expenses, in addition to psychological support for the children and families supporting them through the implementation of several recreational and social programs. The project also aims to contribute to the economic and social security of orphans and their households, and covers 13 cities. Riyadh Air Signs Global Distribution Deal with Spain's Amadeus to Fuel Expansion Plans
Riyadh Air, Saudi Arabia's new national carrier and a wholly owned subsidiary of the Public Investment Fund, has signed a global distribution agreement with Spain-based Amadeus, a leading travel technology provider. The strategic move will give the airline access to one of the world's largest networks of travel agents, bolstering its growth strategy and supporting the Kingdom's transformation drive under Vision 2030. According to an Amadeus statement issued Thursday, the partnership will enable Riyadh Air to join the Amadeus Travel Platform, connecting it with travel agents and distributors in over 190 countries. The agreement is aimed at ensuring the airline's offerings reach travelers worldwide, enhancing Saudi Arabia's appeal as a global tourism destination and reinforcing its role as a central hub for aviation and travel. Vincent Coste, Chief Commercial Officer of Riyadh Air, said the company's mission is to build a world-class airline that embodies Saudi Arabia's ambitions. He added that the partnership with Amadeus provides the global reach, distribution strength, and retailing capabilities needed to achieve the airline's goal of serving more than 100 destinations by 2030. International Falcon Breeders Auction draws experts from Kingdom and abroad
RIYADH: The International Falcon Breeders Auction 2025, which is taking place at Malham, north of Riyadh, is aiming to boost the falcon-breeding industry in Saudi Arabia by drawing experts from the Kingdom and abroad. The event provides a competitive platform from which falconers can explore the latest breeding and hybridization techniques and exchange expertise with breeders worldwide. The auction is known to draw eye-watering sums for the best birds, with some fetching upwards of SR375,000 ($100,000). Last year's auction raised a total of SR10 million after 866 falcons were sold. Falconer Hamad bin Mislih Al-Qahtani told the Saudi Press Agency that falconry in the Kingdom had made significant strides over the past five years, thanks to direct interaction with international farms participating in the auction. Such engagement, he said, had exposed local falconers to superior bloodlines and modern methods that enhanced falcons' speed and hunting skills. Saudi falconer Badr Al-Aradi spoke to the SPA about his peregrine called Salman, reportedly one of the finest specimens produced by a Saudi farm, with an entirely local lineage resulting from the mating of two pure peregrines. The bird weighs 1,090 grams, measures 17 cm in length and 16.5 cm in width, with a balanced build and exceptional acrobatic capabilities. Al-Aradi noted that his falcons typically avoid leaving the farm's provided shelters, which had prompted him to develop a tracking device to monitor their movements. He added: 'I was surprised to find that Salman travels long distances daily. On one occasion he flew 606 km in just eight hours, starting from Turabah, passing through Qassim, then returning to Hail — soaring at altitudes exceeding 3,600 meters.' He said that Salman's feat occurred at the age of less than three months, demonstrating remarkable endurance and sustaining flight despite high temperatures — an uncommon achievement for a young peregrine. The event, which runs until Aug. 25, is organized by the Saudi Falcons Club, and is open daily from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. Visitors and enthusiasts can follow the proceedings live on television and the official digital platforms of the Saudi Falcons Club. The event includes pavilions for breeders, an auction yard, supplies stores, and a special corner for the Future Falconer children's area. There are also a number of interactive presentations by falconers on care and breeding methods.
