Yasiel Puig released by KBO League's Kiwoom Heroes
May 19 - Former MLB standout Yasiel Puig was released by the Kiwoom Heroes of the KBO League in South Korea and said in a social media post he will be returning to the United States.
Puig, 34, who burst onto the scene with the Los Angeles Dodgers in June of 2013, was in his second stint with Kiwoom and played in 40 games this season, batting .213 with a .285 on-base percentage, according to KBO Insider Daniel Kim.
In a post to X, Puig said he is returning to Los Angeles to get "necessary treatment" for a shoulder injury.
"I want to thank my Heroes team for fully supporting me in this transition as I keep aiming to achieve my goal in my baseball career," Puig said in the post. "Although I will not be returning to Kiwoom this year, my heart is with my Kiwoom teammates and fans, I have grown to love and admire you all so much. Thank you for the opportunity."
Puig also played for the Heroes in 2022, batting .277 with 21 home runs in 126 games that season.
An All-Star in 2014, Puig spent six of his seven MLB seasons with the Dodgers, batting .277 with an .823 OPS in 861 total games with 132 home runs and 415 RBIs. He also played for the Cincinnati Reds and Cleveland Indians in 2019.
Puig's post-MLB career also included two separate stints with El Aguila de Veracruz in the Mexican League.

Ian Happ leads Cubs to easy win over Nationals
June 6 - Ian Happ had three hits including a home run to lead the Chicago Cubs to a 7-1 victory over the host Washington Nationals on Thursday. Happ hit a two-run homer and added an RBI double and RBI single while Pete Crow-Armstrong added a two-run homer for the Cubs, who took the rubber game of the season and have won eight of 10. Matt Shaw had three hits, stole two bases and scored twice. Colin Rea (4-2), who replaced opener Drew Pomeranz to start the second inning, pitched 5 1/3 innings, allowing five hits with a walk and no strikeouts. Washington starter Jake Irvin (5-2) gave up three runs on eight hits in five innings. He struck out three and walked two. CJ Abrams, Robert Hassell III and Luis Garcia Jr. each had two hits for the Nationals. After being shut out for just the third time this season on Wednesday, the Cubs jumped on Irvin in the first. Kyle Tucker doubled with one out and Crow-Armstrong homered to center giving Chicago a 2-0 lead. Tucker was 1-for-4 with two walks in his return to the lineup after jamming a finger on Sunday. Abrams led off the Washington first with a single but was thrown out trying to stretch it to a double. Shaw singled leading off the second and scored on Happ's double. The Nationals made another out on the bases in the third when Hassell singled to left but was thrown out at second by Happ. Abrams then doubled and Amed Rosario singled him to third, but James Wood flied out. In the sixth, Reese McGuire singled off Jackson Rutledge to lead off the inning and Happ homered to right in the following at-bat to make it 5-0. Josh Bell doubled with one out in the Washington seventh and Alex Call was hit by a pitch. Caleb Thielbar replaced Rea and got Garcia to pop out. Hassell singled to load the bases, but Thielbar caught Abrams looking at strike three. In the ninth, the Cubs got RBI singles from McGuire and Happ to make it 7-0. June 6 - Max Fried allowed one hit in six sharp innings to become the fourth eight-game winner in the major leagues as the New York Yankees recorded a 4-0 victory over the visiting Cleveland Guardians on Thursday. Cody Bellinger hit a two-run homer in the fourth off Cleveland's Slade Cecconi as the Yankees took the decisive game of a three-game series. New York won a series for the eighth time in nine tries and bounced back from getting blanked for the second this season on Wednesday. Jazz Chisholm Jr. (three hits) and Bellinger added RBI singles in the seventh inning as the Yankees won for the 19th time in 26 games. Fried (8-1) allowed only an infield single to Jose Ramirez in the first inning and two walks. After walking David Fry in the first, the left-hander retired 11 straight and 15 of the final 16 hitters he faced.
