Ration supply through shops from tomorrow
Guntur: Minister for Civil Supplies Dr Nadendla Manohar said the government has taken steps to distribute the essential commodities through the ration shops without irregularities.
He conducted a video conference with the district collectors from Vijayawada on Friday.
Speaking on this occasion, he directed the ration dealers to be ready to distribute the essential commodities through the ration shops from June 1. He urged the ration dealers to bring good name to the government by rendering better services to the card holders. He instructed them to keep the surroundings of ration shops clean, and to keep stock boards and posters. He said essential commodities will be door delivered to the physically challenged, differently abled, and above 65-year-old persons. He further said that essential commodities will be distributed through the ration shops up to 15th of every month. He instructed them to give information to the card holdersnthrough WhatsApp.

24,795 fair price shops begin distribution of commodities in Andhra Pradesh
Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Nadendla Manohar on Sunday claimed that an annual expenditure of ₹385 crore could be saved by reviving the fair price shops under the Public Distribution System (PDS) in Andhra Pradesh. Mr. Manohar launched the distribution of commodities through fair price shops in Pithapuram town in Kakinada district, marking the revival of the fair price shops across the State on Sunday. 'The distribution of commodities has kicked-started at 24,795 fair price shops of the total 29,761 shops on Sunday. As many as 1.46 crore families can get their ration from any fair price shop across the State,' said Mr. Manohar. The Civil Supplies Department will deliver the commodities at the doorstep of 15.6 lakh elderly people and the physically-challenged before the 5th of every month. The fair price shops will have to be open from 1st to to 15th of every month. 'All the fair price shops will soon be brought under the vigil of the CC camera surveillance system and QR code will be made available at the shops for the beneficiaries to register complaints,' he said. Civil Supplies Department Commissioner Sourabh Gaur, Kakinada district Collector S. Shan Mohan, erstwhile East Godavari District Central Cooperative Bank Chairman Tummala Ramaswamy, Kakinada Rural MLA Pantham Nanaji, and Civil Supplies Corporation Chairman Thota Sudheer were among those present.

Top tech news of the week: Microsoft is providing a much-needed upgrade to Notepad, allowing the vintage Windows app to format text in various styles such as bold and italic, while also adding support for hyperlinks and Markdown. The new update has rolled out to Notepad Canary and the Dev Channel, though there's no confirmation yet on when it will be available for stable users. The new lighweight formatting options are part of a new format tab that is located at the top alongside the File, Edit and View options. Apart from choosing styles like Bold and Italic, there is also an option to add lists for Headings and that too in different sizes. WhatsApp has added new elements to its Status feature in a bid to make it more interactive. Most of the new features aren't entirely new features and have been taken directly from Instagram such as Layout for images, adding Music for pictures, Photo Stickers and Add Yours option for pictures. Trump had earlier said he had told Apple CEO Tim Cook to fully manufacture iPhones in the US or face a 25% tariff on iPhones made in India or anywhere else in the world. In a statement to Politico, Bonta said, 'We will be monitoring what he does, if he does anything, and we'll make sure that if the law is broken and we have standing to sue, we'll take appropriate action.' International Data Corporation (IDC) has cut down its global smartphone shipment growth forecast to 0.6% from 2.3% citing high uncertainty, tariff volatility and macro-economic challenges like inflation and unemployment across various regions. IDC further predicts that growth will remain in the low single digits throughout the forecast period and a five year (2024-2029) compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 1.4% owing to increasing smartphone penetration, lengthening refresh cycles, and cannibalization from used smartphones.

Meta to use AI for 90% of privacy and safety checks: Report
Meta Platforms plans to automate up to 90% of internal checks that evaluate privacy, safety, and risk implications across its apps — including Instagram , WhatsApp, and Facebook — using artificial intelligence, according to internal documents reviewed by US news publisher NPR. These product risk reviews, which previously relied heavily on human reviewers, assess whether new features could cause harm to users, violate privacy, or spread harmful content. Under the new system, AI tools will approve most updates — including changes to Meta's core algorithms, safety tools, and content-sharing policies — without requiring manual scrutiny or human debate. The internal documents indicate that human experts will only be involved in 'novel or complex' cases, while low-risk changes will be fully automated. The shift has raised concerns internally. A former Meta executive told NPR that faster product rollouts with fewer checks could increase the risk of real-world harm. 'Insofar as this process functionally means more stuff launching faster, with less rigorous scrutiny and opposition, it means you're creating higher risks,' the former executive said on condition of anonymity. 'Negative externalities of product changes are less likely to be prevented before they start causing problems in the world.' Meta responded to the report saying the goal is to streamline decision-making while maintaining compliance and oversight. 'We leverage technology to add consistency and predictability to low-risk decisions and rely on human expertise for rigorous assessments and oversight of novel or complex issues,' a company spokesperson told TechCrunch.
