Steps taken for smooth Fair Price shop services in Andhra Pradesh
VIJAYAWADA: With all the arrangements completed for the resumption of ration distribution through Fair Price Shops (FPS) across the State from June 1, the traditional public distribution model is set to make a comeback and end the reign of the Mobile Dispensing Units (MDUs). The Civil Supplies Department has conducted successful trial runs and service camps to ensure dealers and infrastructure are fully equipped. Civil Supplies Minister Nadendla Manohar, accompanied by Commissioner Saurabh Gaur, inspected the trial run and reviewed preparedness for the rollout. This strategic shift follows growing dissatisfaction with the MDU system due to irregular deliveries, technical glitches, and significant operational costs, nearly Rs 385 crore annually. Beneficiaries often faced difficulties locating MDU vehicles, resulting in missed rations and inconvenience, particularly in rural and low-connectivity areas. The reinstated FPS model is designed to be more accessible and accountable. Ration shops will now operate daily, including Sundays, from 8 am to 12 noon and 4 pm to 8 pm, with distribution scheduled between the 1st and 15th of each month. To enhance convenience and equity, the government has arranged for doorstep delivery of rations between June 1 and 5 to senior citizens above 65 years, persons with disabilities, and elderly couples. Beneficiaries who have relocated to other areas can avail themselves of rations from any FPS under the portability system.

Serve cardholders sincerely, Civil Supplies Minister tells ration dealers in Andhra Pradesh
Andhra Pradesh Civil Supplies Minister Nadendla Manohar has said the State government has decided to disburse essential commodities through the ration shops to eliminate the scope for irregularities in the public distribution system (PDS). During a video-conference with the district Collectors and the district supply officers on Friday, Mr. Manohar said ration dealers should be prepared to distribute essential commodities through ration shops from June 1. 'The ration dealers have to work in a manner that brings good reputation to the NDA government. Ration dealers, who once served as heads of families to the cardholders, should now work with sincerity and provide services to the cardholders,' the Minister said. He emphasised the need for cleanliness at ration shops, distribution of essential goods with accurate weight, and display of price boards, stock boards, and posters. 'Every shopkeeper must regularly inspect the functioning of their assigned ePoS machines and weighing scales. Essential commodities will be delivered at the doorstep of persons with disabilities and those above 65 years,' the Minister said. The distribution of essential goods should be completed by the 15th of every month, including Sundays. Special care should be taken to ensure that goods were delivered to the persons with disabilities and the elderly between the 1st and 5th of every month, Mr. Manohar said. The Minister noted that timely updates via WhatsApp groups could help ensure that cardholders did not face any inconvenience. Even in case of any technical issue, the distribution of goods must continue without trouble to the cardholders through alternative methods, he added.

Ration distribution to resume June 1 with improved transparency and doorstep delivery: Minister Nadendla Manohar
VIJAYAWADA: Civil Supplies Minister Nadendla Manohar has announced that fair price shops across the State will resume distributing essential commodities to ration cardholders starting June 1, emphasising seamless delivery to uphold public trust. Speaking after inspecting the trial run of essentials' distribution at Ration Shop No. 218 in Vijayawada on Thursday, he urged dealers to ensure transparency in the public distribution system. Accompanied by Civil Supplies Commissioner Saurabh Gaur, he also visited a service camp at the Sub-Collector's office to review e-POS, and weighing machine maintenance, ensuring operational readiness. Manohar highlighted the NDA government's commitment to eliminating irregularities, with measures like home delivery of ration for the differently-abled, and those over 65 by the 5th of every month. Ration shops will operate from the 1st to 15th, including Sundays, from 8 am to 12 pm and 4 to 8 pm. WhatsApp groups will provide real-time updates to cardholders, and ensure uninterrupted supply of ration. Dealers were instructed to maintain the shop premises clean, besides adhering to accurate measurements. He criticised the previous YSRCP government's Mobile Dispensing Unit system, which caused delays and forced cardholders to chase delivery vehicles. The new software, tested during the trial, uses biometric authentication for streamlined PDS distribution. A portability feature allows cardholders to get ration at nearby shops, while a dedicated app tracks stock and distribution to curb corruption.

Transfer of civil supplies assets between TG and AP comes to the fore yet again
Transfer of assets of the Civil Supplies Corporation of the erstwhile united State has come to the fore yet again. A meeting between Minister for Civil Supplies N. Uttam Kumar Reddy and his Andhra Pradesh counterpart Nadendla Manohar on Friday focussed on the phased transfer of assets pertaining to the Civil Supplies departments of the two Telugu States. The meeting deliberated on whether to allow the Telangana Civil Supplies Corporation to use half of the Civil Supplies Bhavan currently allotted to the A.P. Civil Supplies Corporation. The building lies unused. 'The primary dispute between the two States is about the reimbursement of the subsidy amount pertaining to Telangana having been credited into the account of Andhra Pradesh by the Centre,' a senior officer dealing with the State Reorganisation Affairs told The Hindu on condition of anonymity. While the neighbouring State is harping on the recommendations of the Sheila Bhide Committee on apportionment of the assets between the two States, the Telangana government is firm that the cash credit due to it should be reimbursed. The issue assumes significance as the assets of the Civil Supplies Corporation, including the Civil Supplies Bhavan, would come under the control of the Telangana government in line with the provisions under the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014. Mr. Uttam Kumar Reddy said the response from Andhra Pradesh on the transfer of assets located in Telangana to the State government was positive. The two sides discussed strengthening cooperation between the Telugu States on issues like rice exports. Telangana has officially begun exports to the Philippines through the Kakinada Port, with Andhra Pradesh extending critical support in port operations, storage and export procedures. Andhra Pradesh also offered its Visakhapatnam and Krishnapatnam ports for future consignments. 'This is not a matter of jurisdiction, but of mutual growth. Andhra Pradesh is happy to extend full support for Telangana's rice exports. Our ports are open to facilitate this shared economic activity,' said Mr. Nadendla Manohar.
