Mystery over 'heartbreaking' message in a bottle that left people in tears is solved as bereaved daughter reveals her late mother's final wishes

Daily Mail18 hours ago

The daughter of a woman who always longed to travel has made her dream come true after her death.
Single mum of five Wendy Chadwick always dreamed of seeing the world but could only manage holidays in the UK.
Earlier this year, Wendy, 51, had started making plans to travel, but passed away suddenly in February.
Now her daughter, Cara, has thrown her mum's ashes into the sea, with an accompanying note: 'This is my mum. Throw her back in, she's travelling the world.'
Her posts have now gone viral on social media.
Cara, 24, from Oldham, says: 'Mum was the glue that held us all together, she gave everything for her kids.
We went on holidays to Devon and Wales, and she was always happiest on a beach. She loved the beach in Devon especially.
'She used to say she dreamed of travelling abroad and this year, she finally started to make plans.
She didn't care where she went as long as it was sunny and she had sand in her toes.
'Her death was devastating, but I love the idea that now she's seeing the world, just as she'd always wanted.'
Wendy, from Oldham, raised her five children, Rachel, 29, Marshall, 27, Cara, Kai, 22, and Callan, 21, on her own.
'She was also a carer for her mother, Audrey, and brother, Richard, both of whom have now passed away.
Cara says: Growing up, we had everything she could give us.
'She went overboard at Christmas and birthdays and we always had parties.
'She never missed a school play or an assembly.
'She loved going on holiday, her favourite place was the beach, but she didn't have time or money to go abroad.
'But we had good times in the UK.'
Gran of six Wendy dreamed of travelling the world when her children were grown up and this year had finally started planning a trip.
Cara says: 'She said she didn't mind where she went as long as she was on the beach and it was hot.
We really thought this could be something for her, at long last, after looking after people her whole life.'
But in February this year, Wendy was found passed away in her home, from undiagnosed heart disease.
Cara says: 'We were shell-shocked. We didn't know she had heart problems, and neither did she.
'My brother and sister went to check on her, and I was on the phone. I heard them scream and I knew Mum was gone.'
Cara now says she hopes that her mother is 'bobbing around somewhere warm, enjoying the sun and the sea, and she can achieve her dream at last'
Following Wendy's funeral, Cara had originally planned to scatter her ashes on a beach at Butlins in Skegness, where they had happy childhood memories.
'But she then had the idea of throwing the ashes into the sea, so Wendy could see the world.
She says: 'It was very emotional, but I knew she'd love it. I wrote a note asking people to throw her back in.
'Incredibly, I saw a Facebook post that someone had actually found her and thrown her back in already.
'Hopefully she's bobbing around somewhere warm, enjoying the sun and the sea, and she can achieve her dream at last.'

Inside Holly Willoughby's future plans as she's left without telly show for first time in years

IT has been an incredibly testing few years for former ITV treasure Holly Willoughby, with her work life as she knew it crumbling around her. For the first time in years the 44-year-old has been left without a TV show - and she's now at a serious crossroads and is poised to start a new chapter in her career. 10 10 10 Once the princess of ITV, she is currently 'showless' with her beloved ITV for the first time in 21 years. With her time on ITV's This Morning now a distant memory, Holly was looking likely to land a series of lucrative deals with the streamers. But in a further blow - her new Netflix show, Bear Hunt, with Bear Grylls, has been axed. The news comes just weeks after Dancing On Ice was axed and on top of that, she has made the decision to step down from You Bet!, leaving Stephen Mulhern to present alone. She is set to appear briefly in the next series, but will no longer be hosting it. It marks a huge shift in her work with ITV. One option for the star could be a reboot of Record Breakers, which Holly's husband Dan Baldwin is already working on. There is currently no channel attached to the show, which is in its very early stages but sources say it would be a "perfect fit". A telly insider said: "Record Breakers is likely to be a prime time hit and it would make perfect sense for Holly to take the reins. "She has worked alongside Dan before and the pair know what it takes to make great telly." Watch moment Holly Willoughby drops clue over Dancing on Ice's future after series 17 finale She has also been linked to a reboot of Cilla Black's best-known show, Blind Date. The Sun told this week how the ITV classic is being revived - and in a surprise twist will go to global streaming service Disney+. Producers want to keep the tradition of a top British female host, with a shortlist including Claudia Winkleman, Holly Willoughby and Davina McCall. Sources say Holly is also being looked at for a new Channel 4 talent show, currently dubbed Secret Singers, which is searching for raw, undiscovered singing talent. Love Productions - the creators of The Great British Bake Off and The Piano - have already put out a casting call. An insider said: "This is likely to be a heartwarming and hugely popular show for all the family. "They are looking for a the perfect host to make sure it's a huge success and it could be perfect timing with Holly's break in TV." 10 10 10 10 Holly returned to TV last year after 18 months - she had stepped down from presenting work entirely after discovering a plot to kidnap and murder her. Evil Gavin Plumb was given three life sentences for planning to break into her home, then sedate, abduct and kill her and her husband. It came just months after a very public falling out with her co-host Phillip Schofield, which ended with him leaving the show in May 2023. Changes are happening behind the scenes, too. Holly has a big decision to make with her media company Roxy after it was revealed she owes a huge amount to the tax man. Roxy was set up in 2008 by Holly with husband Dan Baldwin. But it wasn't until 2022 that Holly filed the first annual accounts for her all-female ran company after she made the decision to leave former talent agency YMU in 2020. Roxy Media deals with TV show 'production activities', according to its listing on Companies House. But just three years on, Roxy has now been slapped with a winding up order. Action against the company was launched in January and the court was told Holly's company has already settled a bill of £377,000 with the taxman, with an unknown amount still owed. In recent weeks Holly has turned to close friend Christine Lampard for support. Like Holly she has enjoyed long stints with ITV, but has also stepped away from them at times. Sources have said that Holly is inspired by Christine's career and her work-life balance and is hoping to emulate that herself. They said: 'Holly is ready for a rebrand and has definitely been looking at those around her for inspiration.' Addressing her incredibly difficult time, Holly recently told The Sunday Times Style Magazine: 'It's been tough. There's no way of sugar-coating it.' Discussing why she felt moving forward was her only option, Holly said: 'Sometimes things go wrong, but you have to keep going for it because that's all you can do.' And it looks like Holly is moving forward - but not before making some serious changes.

Victoria Beckham puts on a brave face as she demonstrates her summer make-up look amid ongoing feud with son Brooklyn and his wife Nicola Peltz

Victoria Beckham put on a brave face on Friday as she demonstrated her summer make-up look amid her bitter ongoing family feud. The former Spice Girl, 51, and husband David, 50, are in the midst of an escalating rift with eldest son Brooklyn Beckham and his actress wife, Nicola Peltz. But amid the family fallout, Victoria brushed aside her woes and got back to business as she promoted her latest Victoria Beckham Beauty make-up products while showcasing her go-to look for the upcoming season. Sitting in a room with a white towel wrapped around her head and donning a personalised white bathrobe, Victoria showed off her radiant complexion with a light and dewy make-up palette. In the tutorial video, she explained that she 'wanted something a little bit different' and 'warmer' to change up her summer make-up look, before holding up her new Terracotta eye-liner. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the Daily Mail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. She then showed how she creates her smokey eye to achieve a 'tanned, monochromatic summer look', which she describes as 'a warmer take on my everyday summer eye.' The fashion designer appeared in good spirits as she talked through her make-up routine with her fans amid her recent heartbreak over her rift with her eldest son. Brooklyn, 26, appeared to make his feelings clear in an Instagram video shared in May, in which he pledged his unwavering loyalty to Nicola, 30 - the daughter of Miami-based billionaire businessman and investor Nelson Peltz. The influencer whisked his wife off for an early morning motorbike ride and captioned the video: 'My whole world x I will love you forever x I always choose you baby x you're the most amazing person i know xx me and you forever baby.' Those close to the Beckhams have now told The Sun that the message seemed 'very pointed'. The insider added: 'It shows how much this situation with his family has escalated. 'It's very sad for everyone involved, especially David and Victoria who love him very much. This isn't the Brooklyn his family knows and loves. 'This post was like a dagger to their hearts but they will always be there for Brooklyn.' Hours after the post, Cruz, the Beckhams' youngest son waded in on the row for the first time by writing an Instagram post in support of his parents, showing he does not side with Brooklyn. The 20-year-old musician wrote: 'I love my family. I love you guys more than anything, mum and dad you gave us life and cared for us no matter what, I cannot tell you how blessed we are to have you in our lives.' David and Victoria have resigned to the fact that they have become estranged from their beloved son after he failed to attend any of the football ace's 50th birthday celebrations last month. Despite flying to London, Brooklyn and Nicola didn't attend the big family party at the Beckhams' Cotswolds home or an idyllic trip to France or a meal at Notting Hill restaurant, Core. Last month, there was further proof of the irreparable nature of the rift when Brooklyn and Nicola jetted to the capital from their home in Los Angeles for a joint photoshoot with Italian luxury fashion brand Moncler. It took place less than two miles away from the Beckham family home in Holland Park, west London. Brooklyn didn't even tell David and Victoria they were in the country - let alone meet with them. Harper - who turns 14 in July - was exceptionally close with Brooklyn and Nicola, who often shared pictures of her on Instagram gushing over the teen and calling her 'my younger sister'. It will no doubt be heartbreaking for the Beckhams' youngest child with speculation as to whether her eldest brother will attend her 14th birthday celebrations.

Sam Fender, London Stadium: the biggest gig of the pin-up protest star's career

There was a moment, 40 minutes into the biggest concert of Sam Fender's career, when you wondered what on earth must have been going through the 31-year-old's head. Seven years ago the musician from North Shields was on the dole. But here he was, with three number one albums of socially-conscious heartland rock under his belt, standing centre-stage in the stadium where the London 2012 Olympics took place in front of 82,500 adoring fans under clear June skies. Yet the song he was singing was called Crumbling Empire. It addressed poverty under Newcastle's Byker Bridge amid more general comments about Britain's post-industrial decline. 'I don't wear the shoes I used to walk in,' Fender sang. Like much of his recent album People Watching (the best-selling British album of the year so far), Crumbling Empire deals with the distance that success has put between Fender and the life he once knew. So what was it like up for him there? We soon found out. 'I feel like I'm in a fever dream,' he said. Crucially, the ever-growing chasm between what Fender sings about and the lustre of the venues in which he sings it doesn't matter a jot to fans. Like Bruce Springsteen before him – a man to whom Fender is regularly compared – his appeal lies in the fact that success and compassion needn't be mutually exclusive. And here that mixture was boosted to whizz-bang stadium-sized proportions, with pyrotechnics, fireworks and confetti galore. It was the softer songs like Arms Length and Rein Me In, sung here with Olivia Dean, that carried the first half of this concert (muddy sound notwithstanding). These, and the celebratory glow of myriad Newcastle United fans, still basking in their team's recent Carabao Cup victory at Wembley. The Toon Army at next week's trio of sold out hometown mega-shows in St James's Park – the club's home turf – will rightly go bananas. The gig's second half was blistering. People Watching (the song) and a cover of The Clash's London Calling were crowd-pleasing belters. Meanwhile, Seventeen Going Under cemented its status as this century's Born to Run, if that song was stripped of all optimism and recast in the North-East. The highlight was Remember My Name, a stirring ballad dedicated to Fender's late grandparents. He sung it alone backed by the Easington Colliery Brass Band. That took almighty cajones. Respect, Sam. It had this cynical, tired, half-Northumbrian critic reaching for the Kleenex. Fender ended with what is fast becoming this summer's cri de coeur for rock stars: 'Free Palestine'. To be honest it felt a bit tokenistic amid the late-show revelry. But after Wembley, the Geordies are clearly on a roll in London. Fender just notched up another very memorable victory.
