DOTr eyes privatization of 10 more airports until 2028
According to Dizon, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) is looking to have 10 more airports placed under public-private partnership (PPP) — Iloilo, Davao, Siargao, Laoag, Busuanga, Bicol, Tacloban, Bacolod-Silay, General Santos, and Puerto Princesa.
'I'm quite confident that we can PPP 10 more airports by 2028 and this is something that I was bold enough to promise the President that we would PPP these 10 airports,' he said during the Economic Journalists Association of the Philippines (EJAP) Infrastructure Forum in Makati City.
Dizon said the project that is in the most advanced stage is the Iloilo Airport, which has an unsolicited proposal from the Villar Group. It is now with the coordinating committee of the Department of Economy, Planning, and Development (DepDev).
The Iloilo Airport will be developed as a standalone, while the remaining airports are set to be bid out as bundles, as suggested by the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
'I think the government should really focus on making sure that a lot of areas have at least an air strip, an air field for logistics for emergency, for disaster relief, dapat meron 'yan at least pero 'yung mga viable airports I think lahat 'yan i-PPP na (they should have those at least, but those viable, i think they should all be PPP),' Dizon said.
At present, seven airports have been placed under PPPs, with the biggest being the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) which was taken over by the New NAIA Infra Corp. (NNIC) in September 2024.
Other airports include the Bohol-Panglao and Laguindingan airports with the Aboitiz Group, the Mactan-Cebu Airport with the GMR Megawide Cebu Airport Corp. (GMCAC), Clark Airport with Luzon International Premiere Airport Development (LIPAD), and the Caticlan and New Manila airports with San Miguel. —RF, GMA Integrated News

'So the subway, the whole line, is 2032, that is our target. But we want to finish at least two to three stations by 2028 and that is starting from Valenzuela, Quirino and hopefully even North,' Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon told reporters at the sidelines of the Post-State of the Nation Address (SONA) forum in San Juan City on Wednesday. Marcos had earlier expressed optimism that at least the first three stations of the Metro Manila Subway Project would be available to service the commuting public come 2028. 'We want to do the partial ops but we are discussing that with the Japanese,' Dizon said. The Metro Manila Subway is envisioned to have a total of 17 stations and a 30.34-hectare depot where the Philippine Railway Institute is located. The project involves the construction of a 33-kilometer railway line that will connect Valenzuela City to Pasay City, with a spur line to Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3. The MMSP's 17 stations are: Valenzuela where the depot will be located, Quirino Highway, Tandang Sora, North Avenue, Quezon Avenue, East Avenue, Anonas, Katipunan (Camp Aguinaldo), Ortigas Avenue, Shaw Boulevard, Kalayaan Avenue, Bonifacio Global City, Lawton East, Senate-DepEd, NAIA Terminal 3, FTI, and Bicutan. Earlier in the day, Dizon and Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto inspected the Ortigas Station of the subway project, which the Transport chief said is the only remaining major right-of-way issue hounding the project. "Ngayon nagsama-sama kami dito para maghanap ng solusyon [We joined together here to find a solution]. Hopefully, after a few weeks, we will finally start construction," said Dizon. For his part, Sotto said the Pasig City government is also looking forward to the project's eventual completion. Love Bus eyed back on PH roads before end of 2025
The Department of Transportation (DOTr) on Tuesday expressed hope that the return of the Love Bus could be a nationwide program before the year ends. In a social media post, DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon said the implementation of this transport program would be studied in the coming weeks. The agency also released photos, showing the design of the Love Bus. ''Agad-agaran nating gagawin yung gusto ng Pangulo para sa mga kababayan nating commuter. Pag-aaralan natin ito (love bus) sa mga susunod na linggo. Hopefully bago matapos ang taon ay sinisimulan na natin as a nationwide program," Dizon said. (We will immediately abide by what the President wants for our commuters. We will study this in the coming weeks. Hopefully, before the year ends, we're already starting this as a nationwide program.) During his fourth State of the Nation Address, President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. said the iconic Love Bus would make a comeback, which will be free for commuters. Cebu Bus Rapid Transit pilot ops start September — DOTr
The Department of Transportation (DOTr) on Wednesday said it is set to launch the pilot operations of the Cebu Bus Rapid Transit (Cebu-BRT) in September. In a statement, Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon said at least three stations of the mass transit system will be operational come September, namely Fuente, Cebu Normal University and Cebu South Bus Terminal Station. Dizon said at least 70,000 commuters are expected to benefit from the Cebu BRT's pilot operations. Meanwhile, the construction for the Cebu Capitol station will follow, after finalizing its detailed engineering design to make it a median station from the previous curbside configuration, according to the Transportation chief. Dizon also expressed gratitude to the Cebu Provincial local government for coordinating with the DOTr in addressing issues of the project. The phases 2A and 3A of the Cebu BRT which are composed of 13 stations and 62 bus stops will be completed before President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s term ends in 2028, according to the Transport chief. — Ted Cordero/RF, GMA Integrated News
