Tributes flood in for award-winning photojournalist killed in crash
Mr O'Neill, who was aged 62, was travelling on a motorcycle when
he was involved in a collision with a tractor-trailer yesterday morning.
He was brought to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The collision occurred at approximately 10:50am on the Old Airport Road (Collinstown Lane) in Co Dublin.
Colleagues of Mr O'Neill, as well as members of Irish media who have worked with or alongside the photographer over the years, have expressed their condolences at his loss.
Crime and Defence editor at the Irish Daily Star and the Irish Mirror, Michael O'Toole, wrote: 'We're all devastated by the death of our much loved photographer, colleague and friend Mick O'Neill.
'Mick was the snapper's snapper. There was nobody who came close to him. He travelled all over Ireland and the world doing a job he loved and excelled at, one which came naturally to him.

'I have never seen any media professional as gifted as Mick at talking to people, at making them feel at ease in the most stressful of situations, at connecting with them, essentially. He made the job of the reporter working with him easy.'
Crime correspondent at the Irish Daily Star and the Irish Mirror, Paul Healy, similarly expressed his shock and sadness at the news of Mr O'Neill's death. He wrote in a post to X that Mr O'Neill 'loved his family and his two young grandchildren especially'. He also loved his motorbike, Healy wrote, and was often out in the country enjoying it when he wasn't working.
Editor of the Irish Star and the Irish Daily Mirror, Neil Leslie said that all of Mr O'Neill's colleagues at the two papers he worked as a photographer for, but also the wider group of Reach Ireland are devastated at his untimely loss.
'On behalf of Reach, I would like to extend our deepest sympathies and offer our support to his family and all his many friends and colleagues.
'Mick was a truly outstanding journalist and photographer. Moreover, he was a great friend and a wise mentor to the other journalists who worked alongside him over many years.'
Mr O'Neill had worked for the Irish Daily Star for 25 years.
He is survived by his wife Lorraine, son Karl and two grandchildren, Mya and Kai, as well as a wide circle of family members and friends.

'It's more high profile because it's me' -Oisin Murphy blasts media in interview
Oisin Murphy blasted the media for 'disinformation' while adding that 'it's obviously more high profile because it's me' in a spikey TV interview with Matt Chapman. Irish jockey Murphy was recently handed a £70,000 fine and a 20-month driving ban after admitting to one count of driving a motor vehicle over the legal alcohol limit. "Obviously there was going to be a lot said in the media and it is important to not allow the media to bully you too much because you can get very down but I've had horses to ride and have a job to do and I am working with the BHA and it's great to be riding every day," he told Chapman. And when asked about the female passenger in the car during the incident, he said: "Obviously there was a lot of misinformation in the press, much of it spread by your colleagues but fortunately the lady is really well and that's the most important thing." Interviewer Chapman then followed up, asking if she was back working. "I don't think that is anyone's business but if I say she's very well I mean that." Murphy further took aim at the media, slamming them as 'jealous'. "Not everyone wants one to achieve. There is a lot of jealousy out there, particularly in the media. I worked all my life to ride good horses, and I'll continue to do that, and the only thing that can inhibit me from not progressing further in my career is myself, so that's a realisation." The 29-year-old briefly touched on the role of counselling in his life in recent years. "I had been for the last four years. Obviously, I had very good spells due to that support, and I relied on it an awful lot since late April, and I've got to thank those people because they have gone above and beyond when the process hasn't been so easy. "It's very important not to make that error again. It was a nightmare, particularly for everyone involved, not just myself. The people who had to pick up the pieces obviously, my support network. Time is a great healer but I won't be forgetting about that mistake." The British Horseracing Authority maintains privacy with jockeys when it comes to licencing and Murphy was also asked about any possible restrictions that he has been handed since the drink-driving offence. "They never disclose licence information. I'm not the first jockey to drink and drive or commit offences so it's obviously more high profile because it's me, and due to the profile I have, those incidents should never occur but the BHA have been really fantastic and I really appreciate what they've done to help me. I want to repay them."

Nine dead, 30 injured in fire at assisted living facility near Boston
A fire that broke out at an assisted living facility for the elderly near Boston last night has killed at least nine people and injured 30 others, authorities have said. About 70 people lived at the Gabriel House assisted living facility in Fall River, Massachusetts, where the fire broke out about 9.30pm local time (2.30am Irish time) Jake Wark, a spokesperson for the Massachusetts Department of Fire Security, said. Mr Wark said that about 50 firefighters responded to the incident in Fall River, about 90km south of Boston. The city opened a temporary shelter for surviving residents. Firefighters rescued numerous occupants of the facility, which is designed for older people to live independently with staff assistance, he said. Several residents were declared dead at the scene, while many others were transported to hospitals, and one person was in critical condition. Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey called the fire a tragedy and said the cause was being investigated. "My heart goes out to those who are waking up to the most horrific news imaginable about their loved ones this morning," she said in a statement. Fall River Fire Chief Jeffrey Bacon told the media that some people were hanging from windows when firefighters arrived, the Boston Globe reported. Gabriel House opened in 1999 and has 100 units, according to state data. Dennis Etzkorn has been the sole director, president and treasurer of Gabriel Care, the corporation that runs the facility, since its founding. Efforts to reach Mr Etzkorn for comment were unsuccessful. In 2015, he agreed to pay $950,000 to the state to settle and dismiss charges of fraud brought by the Massachusetts attorney general's office over an alleged scheme of offering kickbacks of $150 for referrals of customers to Gabriel Care who use the state's health insurance company, MassHealth, court records show.
