Open burning begins Saturday: KCFD
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The Kern County Fire Department announced open burning of hazard reduction fuels is scheduled to begin on Saturday at 8 a.m.
Fire officials are monitoring fuel moisture and weather conditions. For public safety burning may be put on a temporary hold.

Brush fire burning near I-5 at Fort Tejon prompts evacuation warning
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — An evacuation warning remains in effect after a brush fire broke out overnight along Interstate 5 near Fort Tejon. The fire broke out Wednesday night at around 11:30 p.m. near southbound lanes of I-5 at Fort Tejon Road, according to officials. As of Thursday morning the Fort Fire has burned approximately 133 acres and is at 5% containment. The fire has prompted an evacuation warning for the KRN-535 zone, according to Genasys evacuation map — Kern County's evacuation mapping system for residents. The evacuation warning zone includes areas north of Temescal Drive, Digier Road; south of I-5; east of Grapevine Road; and west of I-5. View a map of the zone at this link. Multiple firefighting crews have worked to contain the fire overnight including water dropping helicopters. Fort Fire burns over 130 acres in Kern County near Lebec along the 5 Freeway
A 133-acre wildfire burning in Kern County near Lebec has prompted evacuation warnings on Thursday morning. The fire was first reported shortly before midnight near Lebec along the southbound 5 Freeway near the Fort Tejon ramp, according to the Kern County Fire Department. As of Thursday morning, the fire is 5% contained with crews actively working to limit it from spreading, the KCFD said. Fire officials issued evacuation warnings for several areas along the Golden State Freeway. Residents are being told to be prepared to leave their homes if there is a wildfire threat in their area. Areas under evacuation warning: North of: Temescal Drive, Digier Road South of: Golden State Freeway East of: Grapevine Road West of: Golden State Freeway All four KCFD hand crews were called to battle the scene, as well as Helicopter 407 for its night water dropping capabilities. The California Highway Patrol in Bakersfield has closed the #4 lane from south of Grapevine Road to the Upper Water Hole. Drivers should expect delays and use alternate routes while traveling. The cause of the fire is unknown. It is unclear if any injuries have been reported.

Temperatures forecast to be in 100s this weekend bringing ‘dangerously hot conditions' to Bakersfield, surrounding areas in Kern County
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — As temperatures are expected to reach 100 degrees and over in parts of the Central Valley, the National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Watch for the weekend. The Extreme Heat Watch is in effect between May 30 at 11 a.m. through June 1 at 7 a.m. for much of Kern County including the Kern River Valley, the National Weather Service in Hanford said. The Old Farmer's Almanac predicts a 'very hot summer' in 2025 17 News Chief Weather Forecast Kevin Charette said temperatures in Bakersfield are expected to be in the low 100s on Friday and Saturday. The hottest recorded temperature this year was 102 degrees on May 10, he said. The average temperature for the time of year is 88 degrees, according to data from the National Weather Service. The National Weather Service's advisory says the 'dangerously hot conditions' could bring temperatures to 105 degrees in some areas.
