The South American clubs taking part in the FIFA Club World Cup have been one of the tournament's biggest stories on and off the pitch. On it, Brazilians clubs have shocked some of European soccer's best — Botafogo toppled French powerhouse PSG before Flamengo took down England's Chelsea — and off of it, supporters of teams such as Palmeiras and Fluminense have fueled an exciting atmosphere for the reconfigured tournament. It has put a spotlight on the passion South Americans have for their clubs and how the support has helped propel their teams during the Club World Cup. 6 Botafogo players celebrate a goal during a win over Paris Saint-Germain in the Club World Cup on June 19, 2025. And the party continued during a weather delay during one match with fans packing the concourse, banging drums and continuing to chant. Similar scenes played out in stadiums across the United States during the group stage of the Club World Cup. Away from the field, fans turned local landmarks into soccer hubs — it went viral when Palmeiras fans taking over Times Square the night before the tournament. All four of the Brazilian clubs — including Palmeiras and Fluminense, which each played a pair of games at MetLife Stadium during the group stage — advanced to the knockout round beginning Saturday. The turn of events has shocked some, but Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola hardly seemed surprised about the atmosphere the fans have created or about the results on the pitch. 6 Fans of Brazilian club Palmeiras pack the stands at MetLife Stadium for a Club World Cup match on June 19, 2025. 'I like how all the games are tight, except one or two, and people are surprised, European teams lose. … Welcome to the real world, my friends.' The strong support has been bolstered by fans willing to travel to the United States to follow their favorite clubs, along with a strong base of support already in North America. In a conversation with The Post, he called helping to bring together so many fans from so many backgrounds a 'rewarding experience.' 'I'm having the time of my life to see people that are in the U.S. [and] have never left the U.S. as their first time watching a [Palmeiras] match,' he said. 'I could see a lot of supporters crying, from the emotion of being in the atmosphere of the stadium. And I can tell you that what you saw at the stadium here is the same as you would see in Brazil if you were there in a big match. 'For me, I was telling friends, I don't think I've ever been that happy in my life with everything that's happening surrounding Palmeiras here in New York.' 6 Botafogo coach Renato Paiva. IMAGN IMAGES via Reuters Branco hasn't been surprised by the support the South American clubs have had — Palmeiras in particular — but the sheer number of fans that have shown up has been eye-opening. He estimated that 30,000 of the 45,000 fans announced for Palmeiras' first match against Porto on June 15 had been there to support the Brazilian side. 'To be honest, I was not surprised [about the enthusiasm], but I was surprised at the size, at the quantity,' he said. 6 Brazil's Fluminense was backed by fans young and old at a Club World Cup match at MetLife Stadium on June 21, 2025. REUTERS The Club World Cup has allowed other fans to come together as well. Egyptian side Al Ahly also saw a sizable turnout of supported during their stint in the tournament and fans praising the unity the games created. 'It's incredible,' said Flobatir Abdou, who drove down from Massachusetts to see Al Ahly face Palmeiras last week. 'Coming from Egypt, soccer is one thing that unites everybody together and having everybody support the same club, same badge, it's a whole [different] feeling, especially in a stadium like this with a team like this, and a moment like this.' 'I met a lot of people from Miami, Orlando, New York, New Jersey. It's a lot of people from different states coming together,' said a Palmeiras fan who identified himself as Guilerme. 6 Palmeiras' Mauricio celebrates scoring their second goal with teammates on June 23. REUTERS The Club World Cup Round of 16 begins Saturday with an all-Brazilian clash between Palmeiras and Botafogo in Philadelphia. Sunday's slate includes a showdown between Lionel Messi's Inter Miami and his former club PSG, as well as Brazil's Flamengo taking on Bayern Munich. All matches are streaming for free on DAZN.

Juventus prodigy praises Real Madrid midfielder ahead of CWC showdown: ‘An extraordinary footballer'

Real Madrid made it through to the knockout phase of the FIFA Club World Cup with a crucial win over RB Salzburg to top Group H and it is safe to say that they performed well across the park en route the result. One player who has been crucial in Xabi Alonso's plans so far and can be regarded as one of the biggest beneficiaries of his arrival is Arda Guler, for the Turkish starlet is enjoying prominence he has never enjoyed before at the club. Advertisement In just three games so far under Alonso, he already averages 57 minutes per game and has a goal to his name in the tournament. Further, he averages a key pass in every game and completes 90% of his passes. Guler's compatriot speaks out In a recent interview, Juventus talent and Turkish international Kenan Yildiz opened up on his compatriot and spoke on how he is a very special player for both club and country. 'Arda Guler is an extraordinary footballer. He has a great future ahead of him at Real Madrid,' he said via La Gazzetta dello Sport. Making an impression at the Club World Cup. (Photo by) Advertisement Yildiz, after all, knows Guler very well from their time together in the national team. Given that the duo belong to the same age bracket, they will play alongside one another for years to come. In fact, the Juventus star was even linked with a move to Real Madrid last year as Florentino Perez saw Yildiz as a long-term bet to solve the team's attacking midfield problem. Now, however, Los Blancos are stacked in the department and do not need any new signings. Guler and Yildiz will, however, face off in the next round of the FIFA Club World Cup on Tuesday night at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami and it will be interesting to see which player outperforms the other. After all, a place in the quarterfinal of the competition will be at stake.

A glimpse of a dangerous combination revealed itself for Manchester City against Juventus

As Manchester City picked apart Juventus 5-2 at the Camping World Stadium in Orlando yesterday, there were a host of positives to come of yesterday's match. The performances and midfield play of Rodri and Tijjani Reijnders did stand out. Given the strengths of Rodri and Reijnders' games, they do figure to be a dangerous midfield combination for Manchester City. There was also another combination that appeared to be blossoming for Manchester City against Juventus. It was on City's left-hand side. That was the link-up play between Jeremy Doku and Rayan Ait-Nouri. Doku and Ait-Nouri look like they have the makings of a lethal combination for Manchester City based on yesterday's display. Jeremy Doku and Rayan Ait-Nouri look to have already struck up an understanding. From the opening minute of Manchester City's win over Juventus, the interplay between Jeremy Doku and Rayan Ait-Nouri caught the eye. They combined well and their movement complemented each other's games. If Doku drifted centrally, Rayan Ait-Nouri went on the overlap on the left wing. When Jeremy Doku stayed wide, it created space for Ait-Nouri to go to work in the centre of the pitch. The second part of that particular equation created Manchester City's opening goal against Juventus. The goal can be seen below. Rayan Ait-Nouri threaded in a superb through ball from Jeremy Doku from a central area. Doku got inside, beat his man and calmly beat Michele Di Gregorio in the Juventus goal in the 9th minute. It was a beautifully constructed goal; however, the link-up and understanding between Doku and Ait-Nouri was hard to ignore. Jeremy Doku knew to make the run as he knew Rayan Ait-Nouri could pick him out. The fact that Ait-Nouri produced a ball that Kevin De Bruyne would be proud of speaks to his technical ability. Advertisement That goal was the perfect encapsulation of the combination play between Jeremy Doku and Rayan Ait-Nouri. The pair did combine for other moments of quality during yesterday's match. But that one moment in particular did stand out above all others. Jeremy Doku is relishing playing with Rayan Ait-Nouri at Manchester City. In an interview published on Jeremy Doku explained that he is enjoying playing with Rayan Ait-Nouri. He added that the pair have already established a connection. Speaking on Rayan Ait-Nouri, Doku said: 'Honestly, he's a top player. He's settled so fast and quick, he can play inside or outside.' 'It's a joy to play with him. He speaks French as well.' Advertisement 'Honestly, the connection is there. And I'm happy that he's here with us.' The play of Rayan Ait-Nouri and Jeremy Doku did help Manchester City beat Juventus yesterday. Their combination play on the left did help keep the Juventus defence stretched during their FIFA Club World Cup Group G fixture. Looking further ahead, Doku and Ait-Nouri combining and complementing each other on the left could help Manchester City unlock the low defensive blocks teams employ against Pep Guardiola's side. They showed that yesterday which was a massive positive for Manchester City to take out of yesterday's win.
