USA Today19-07-2025
We've reached 50 days until the Raiders season opener at Foxboro against the Patriots, With our countdown at 50 days we take a look at who currently dons the number in Silver & Black and who has brought it the most distinction.
No. 50
Who's wearing it now: LS Jacob Bobenmoyer
Bobenmoyer enters his third season as the Raiders' longsnapper. He had spent the first three seasons of his career in the same position with the Broncos.
Who wore it best: C Dave Dalby
When original Raider Jim Otto retired after the 1974 season, the Raiders already had the next man up on the roster. Dalby stepped in at center and remained there for the next 11 years. All three Super Bowl winning teams lined up with Dalby touching the ball first. When he retired after the 1985 season, the Raiders had just starting centers in franchise's 26-year history.

Saquon Barkley says he declined a spot on President Donald Trump's sports council

PHILADELPHIA — Saquon Barkley has declined an invitation to join President Donald Trump's council on sports, fitness, and nutrition, which is being revitalized under an executive order that also re-establishes the Presidential Fitness Test for American children. Barkley, the 2,000-yard rusher for the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles, was on a list of sports personalities that included golfers Bryson DeChambeau and Nelly Korda, WWE executive Paul 'Triple H' Levesque, football Hall of Famer Lawrence Taylor and retired New York Yankees great Mariano Rivera. Barkley said Monday following Eagles' practice that he had declined the invitation. 'A couple months ago, it was brought to my team about the council,' Barkley said. 'So I'm not really too familiar with it. I felt like that I am going to be super busy. Me and my family thought it would probably be of best interest to not accept that. I was definitely a little shocked when my name was mentioned. I'm assuming it's something great, so I appreciate it but was a little shocked when my name was mentioned.' Trump last week re-established the Presidential Fitness Test for American children, a fixture of public schools for decades that gauged young people's health and athleticism with 1-mile runs, sit-ups and stretching exercises. 'This is a wonderful tradition, and we're bringing it back,' Trump said of the fitness test that began in 1966 but was phased out during the Obama administration. The executive order also reinvigorated the national sports council that could have included Barkley. Barkley won AP Offensive Player of the Year last season after rushing for 2,005 yards, eighth-best in NFL history, in his first season with the Eagles. Barkley has golfed with Trump and former President Barack Obama over the last year, and the running back attended the White House celebration of the champion Eagles while some teammates — notably star quarterback Jalen Hurts — skipped the ceremony. Barkley visited Trump in April at Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey, and caught a ride with the president to Washington on Air Force One and then to the White House on Marine One. 'He loved it,' Trump said then of Barkley's short flight on the presidential airplane. 'He's a great young guy and an incredible football player. Saquon had a season for the ages, running behind the most powerful offensive line in the NFL.' Barkley, meanwhile, pushed back on social media criticism following the visit. He noted that he had already golfed with Obama, a Democrat.

5 standouts from Day 10 of Patriots training camp practice

After a two-day break, the New England Patriots were back on the field in pads on Monday for their 10th training camp practice. The team is clearly on the verge of ramping up its workload ahead of Wednesday's joint practice and Friday's preseason opener against the Washington Commanders. It will be the first opportunity for the Patriots to test themselves against another team. There is no better gauge of potential than seeing it in action against a team that advanced to the NFC Championship Game last season. Before the Patriots go head-to-head with the Commanders, they held another tough in-house practice session full of one-on-ones and 11-on-11 team periods. Here were the five standout players from Day 10 of training camp practice in New England: EDGE Elijah Ponder One underrated name to keep an eye on in training camp and the preseason is rookie edge rusher Elijah Ponder. He popped in a major way by going 4-0 during the one-on-one pass rushing drills at Monday's practice. The former Cal Poly standout is a physical specimen at 6-foot-3 and 260 pounds with legitimate raw traits to make an impact at the next level. CB D.J. James This was another strong practice turned in by second-year cornerback D.J. James. He continues to make the most of his opportunities on the practice field. Throughout the competitive period, he was spotted locked in tight coverage on Stefon Diggs, Kyle Williams and Kayshon Boutte. He is a scrappy defensive back willing to stand up to any challenge. WR Javon Baker Javon Baker is predominantly viewed as a player on the roster bubble. However, he could make things interesting if he continues to make big plays like he did at Monday's practice. He caught three straight touchdowns at one point from backup quarterback Josh Dobbs during the 7-on-7 period. The second-year wideout also snagged another leaping touchdown in 11-on-11s. RB TreVeyon Henderson Rookie running back TreVeyon Henderson was very much involved on offense in this practice. He hauled in five receptions with three receiving touchdowns and one rushing touchdown. The second-round pick out of Ohio State is a matchup nightmare with the ability to threaten as a runner and a receiver. Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels appears to be making the most of his skill set with the playbook. K Andres Borregales and John Parker Romo The kicking competition has been a nail-biter between Andres Borregales and John Parker Romo. They refused to let up on Monday with both kickers finishing 4-for-4 on field goals. It's easy to give Borregales the edge as the rookie sixth-round draft pick, but Parker Romo appears determined to make it a fight to the finish. Follow Patriots Wire on Twitter and Facebook.
