Monochrome Monday: The Saffron Edition
Saffron isn't just a colour. It's heat, heritage, and a memory made tangible.
There are colours that follow seasons, and then there's saffron - perpetually relevant, stubbornly radiant. It lives somewhere between sun-bleached ochre and slow-burn turmeric: neither orange nor yellow, but something older, deeper. You'll find it where heat meets history - in the trim of a galabiya, the glaze of a lantern, the shimmer off the Nile just before the sunset. It's the grain of an old photograph, the lid of a spice jar cracked open at noon.
Saffron isn't merely seasonal but situational. A feeling that stains, lingers, and refuses to wash out. Here's how to wear it.
Alexandra Miro | Leonie Open-back Dress
A sun-drenched column of chiffon with an open back that reads less resort, more revival. Tailored to catch both the light and the side-eyes. Carolina Herrera | Ombré-effect Sequinned Midi Skirt
Think sunset, pixelated. This skirt doesn't whisper elegance—it flashes it in sequins that drip from ochre to gold like a melting hour.
Rebel Cairo | Stripe Cotton Wrap Pareo in Tangerine
More than just a beach wrap, it's a saffron-soaked stripe of attitude. Tie it high, wear it low, don't overthink it. IZIE | Port Sandals
Sleek, sculptural, and dipped in the kind of orange that usually only happens at 6:47 PM. Ground your look without dulling it.
Sheryl Lowe | Sunset Bead Bracelet
A strand of molten sunset held together by three pavé diamond rondelles. Not delicate—deliberate.
Miaou Atlas | Pant in Oasis
Tailored to flirt with structure but lounge like silk. These trousers say 'I'm chill' while their colour says 'No, you're not.'
Okhtein | Mini Feryel Bag in Gel Copper
Structured but soft, like a family heirloom that moonlights as an accessory. Pairs well with everything and nothing at once. PINKO | Sequinned Mini Dress
A disco ball recast in spice tones. If saffron had a nightlife, this is what it would wear. Amina Muaddi | Anok Slipper 105 in Orange Satin
Satin-wrapped power with the architectural heel to back it up. The kind of shoe that turns entrances into exits.

How to Spend an Egyptian Day in Dubai
From foul to pharaohs, this is how to experience Egypt in Dubai. Apr 08, 2025 Craving a bit of home while you're in the land of brunches and beach clubs? Whether it's the crispy bite of a proper ta'ameya, the warm chaos of a perfectly layered koshari, or a boutique that knows how to say ya gameel in handbag form, Dubai has plenty of ways to channel the spirit of Egypt. From hidden foodie gems to cultural hotspots, nostalgic tunes to a touch of pharaonic grandeur, here's your ultimate guide to spending a day in Dubai—Egyptian style. 9 AM – Ta'ameya Time at Hadoota Masreya Start your day the right way: deep-fried, carb-loaded, and unapologetically Egyptian. Hadoota Masreya nails the Cairo breakfast vibe with crispy ta'ameya, smoky foul, and piping hot baladi bread. The decor? Think vintage Egypt with just enough flair to make you forget you're on Al Wasl Road. 11 AM – Fashion Fix at Okhtein Egyptian design, but make it high fashion. Okhtein brings serious style cred with statement bags and accessories crafted by skilled artisans back home. Founded by Egyptian sisters Aya and Mounaz Abdelraouf, the brand is all about heritage meets now. Walk in curious, walk out couture. 1 PM – Lunch at Cairo Gourmet 📍Al Safa Yes, you can get koshari in Dubai—and it's legit. Cairo Gourmet is a low-key gem serving up all the hits: molokhia, grilled meats, and a lentil-laced koshari that hits the nostalgia spot hard. Bonus points for the traditional vibes and decor that feels straight out of Garden City. 3:30 PM – Souvenir Stop: Global Village (Seasonal) 📍Global Village, Dubailand (check seasonal hours) If you're visiting during shopping season, hit the Egypt pavilion at Global Village for handwoven rugs, silver jewelry, and more 'made back home' goods than your suitcase can probably handle. It's touristy—but in the best way. 5 PM – Seafood à la Alexandria at Sardina 📍Jumeirah Sardina brings the Alexandrian fish house experience to Dubai—grilled seafood, psaria salads, and that unmistakable Mediterranean simplicity. No frills, just flavor. 7 PM – Chill Time at Al Sukaria Café 📍Dubai Marina Grab a table, order some mint tea, and sink into a shisha session at Al Sukaria. This Marina café channels downtown Cairo energy with mezze, music, and a steady flow of nostalgia. Bonus: the people-watching is top-tier. 8:30 PM – Pharaohcore at Wafi City 📍Oud Metha You've never truly experienced themed real estate until you've wandered through Wafi City. Giant sphinxes? Check. Pyramid-shaped windows? Also check. It's kitsch, it's dramatic, it's everything. Don't skip Khan Murjan Souk downstairs—less mall, more medieval marketplace.

Egypt's Mazen Zaki Takes ‘Gozoour' Back to Its Roots Across Egypt
Egypt's Mazen Zaki Takes 'Gozoour' Back to Its Roots Across Egypt The stylist and brand owner re-imagines the country through the lens of his label 'Gozoour'. When it comes to inspiration, Mazen Zaki looks both inward and outward. As the founder of Gozoour, his work is rooted in cultural storytelling, drawing from the layers of Egyptian identity. Over the years, he has collaborated with some of Egypt's most exciting brands and entities, including Anghami, Azza Fahmy, Trzi, The Stahps, Defacto, and Maison Saedi. A fashion graduate from MSA University, Zaki has spent the last five years styling, three years art-directing, and two years designing. For Zaki, Egypt has always been central to his vision, but not in the way most expect. "Everyone sees pharaohs, but I see Upper Egyptians—the evolution of pharaohs," he explains. His work embraces this modern evolution, weaving Egyptian heritage into his styling through silhouettes, textures, and subtle details. "I like to use style to embody different characters, always with an Egyptian twist." Right now, he's knee-deep in his Spring/Summer 2025 collection, inspired by a John Launois photograph of Upper Egyptian women crossing the water. In this Scene Styled selects, Zaki curates five looks inspired by different Egyptian cities and towns, each reflecting its distinct culture and aesthetic.
