Thai airstrikes hit Cambodian military targets, Cambodian shell kills Thai civilian as border clashes escalate
The Thai army said it has launched airstrikes on ground targets in Cambodia. The Cambodian Defense Ministry said Thailand's army used fire jets to drop bombs on a road near the ancient Preah Vihear temple.
Thai F-16 jets carried out air strikes on a pair of military targets in Cambodia on Thursday, the Thai army said, as the two countries clashed over a disputed border.
Six jets were deployed from Ubon Ratchathani province, hitting two "Cambodian military targets on the ground", according to deputy spokesperson of the Thai army Ritcha Suksuwanon.
Surasant Kongsiri, a spokesperson for the Thai Defense Ministry, said three other civilians, including a 5-year-old boy, were seriously injured after Cambodia fired shots into a residential area in Thailand's Surin province.
"A Cambodian artillery shell hit a Thai civilian's home, killing one, with a five-year-old child critically injured and two others wounded," the prime minister's office said in a statement.
Clashes are ongoing in at least six areas along the border, Surasant said. The first clash Thursday morning happened in an area near the ancient Ta Muen Thom temple along the border of Surin province and Cambodia's Oddar Meanchey province.
Both Thailand and Cambodia accused each other of opening fire first.

In 2024, around 2.1 million Indian tourists visited the country. The Indian embassy in Phnom Penh also advised Indian citizens in Cambodia to avoid travelling to border areas. "In view of the ongoing clashes at the Cambodia-Thailand border, Indian nationals are advised to avoid travelling to the border areas," it said in a post on social media.

In a statement released on X, the Indian Embassy in Cambodia stated, "In view of the ongoing clashes at the Cambodia-Thailand border, Indian nationals are advised to avoid travelling to the border areas. In case of any emergency, Indian nationals may approach the Embassy of India, Phnom Penh." The Indian Embassy's advisory came as tensions remained high along the Thailand-Cambodia border. The militaries of both nations have claimed inflicting significant damage on each side. On Saturday, a Cambodian defence spokesperson said that at least 13 people have died and 71 others were injured in Cambodia in border clashes. As per the Thai media, the border clashes continued for the third day on Saturday after the Cambodian side opened fire at Thai soldiers. While addressing a press briefing, Cambodian Defence Ministry's Undersecretary of State and Spokesperson Maly Socheata said, "Five Cambodian soldiers were killed and 21 others were wounded." Socheata said, "Also, eight civilians died and 50 others were injured in Oddar Meanchey province." The Cambodian Ministry of National Defence said the Thai army on Saturday expanded its military attacks to another Cambodian province, Pursat. In response to Cambodia's new attack, the Thai Navy launched 'Trat Strike 1' operation and "successfully pushed back" the Cambodian incursion at three key points, according to the Thai Ministry of Defence spokesperson's office statement on Saturday. The Thai Navy also dispatched a task force of four vessels to support the operation in Trat and provide fire support to ground forces, the National Broadcasting Services of Thailand reported on Saturday.
