10 most welcoming destinations in the US for 2025 (according to 360 million people)
Booking.com, one of the best websites to book vacation accommodations, is proud to announce the recipients of its 13th annual Traveler Review Awards. Based on over 360 million verified customer reviews, the awards honor travel partners who consistently deliver outstanding hospitality and service.
As one of those verified customers, so I can attest that EVERY review really does make an impact.
Since I love domestic travel, the category I was most excited for was 'Most Welcoming Places,' which takes travelers from sea to shining sea across America. The ranking is calculated by each destination's volume of 2025 Traveler Review Awards, as well as the average rating for accommodations.
For most people, Oklahoma is not very high on their travel list. But trust me when I tell you that it has two of my favorite cities in the country: Oklahoma City and Tulsa. But it was actually Oklahoma's quieter city of Broken Bow that stole the hearts of visitors in 2024.
Broken Bow, Oklahoma, is an outdoor lover's paradise that offers a perfect blend of adventure and relaxation. One of the main attractions is the crystal-clear Broken Bow Lake, where visitors can enjoy boating, fishing, and kayaking against a backdrop of towering pines.
Beyond its outdoor allure, the quaint town is filled with cozy cabins, boutique shops, and delicious local dining that showcase the best of Southern hospitality. After a day of exploring, unwind in one of the town's luxurious lodges or private retreats, many with hot tubs and scenic views.

Arizona is a state that I've been to a number of times, but I haven't been to many cities. I mostly just camp and do outdoorsy things, which is why I've had my eye on is Prescott, Arizona.
Known as "Everybody's Hometown," Prescott is a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts, offering everything from leisurely strolls around Watson Lake to more challenging hikes in the surrounding wilderness. The Prescott National Forest provides ample opportunities for biking, horseback riding, and camping, while the cool, mountain climate makes it an ideal escape from the Arizona heat.
In addition to its natural wonders, Prescott boasts a vibrant historic district, where visitors can wander through charming streets lined with Victorian architecture, antique shops, and local art galleries. The town's famous Whiskey Row is home to lively saloons and rich western heritage, offering a glimpse into the Old West with modern-day flair. Prescott's festivals and events, such as the Prescott Frontier Days Rodeo, add to its lively atmosphere, making it a perfect year-round destination.

Now I absolutely LOVE Hawai'i. In fact, it was the destination that made me fall in love with traveling because of how AT HOME I felt when I visited back in my couchsurfing days. Since then, I have become a vocal advocate for Native Hawaiian rights and respect for their homelands. I am the farthest from surprised that the Hawaiian islands are recognized as one of the most welcoming destinations in the US.
For Waikoloa specifically, located on the Big Island, it is a destination rich in cultural experiences - and of course the golden sands and vibrant reefs of Waikoloa Beach. Explore the nearby petroglyphs at Waikoloa Petroglyph Reserve, or take a scenic drive to the Waimea region to experience the charming paniolo (cowboy) culture. The area is also home to some of Hawaii's most incredible outdoor adventures, from hiking through lush rainforests and volcanic parks to zip-lining above waterfalls.

California is one of the most popular states to visit, in part because of its numerous National Parks! Located just outside of one of the most popular, Yosemite National Park, is the small town of Oakhurst.
Just a short drive from the southern entrance of Yosemite, Oakhurst offers stunning scenery, with rolling hills, towering pines, and crystal-clear streams. Visitors can explore hiking trails with breathtaking views, enjoy water activities at nearby Bass Lake, or take a scenic drive through the mountains.
If you are still looking for ways to fill your itinerary outside of the National Park, Oakhurst also has the Fresno Flats Historic Village to step back in time and learn about California's pioneering days or catch live music and local art at community events.

Lahaina is one of the most loved towns in the Hawaiian Islands, so it is no surprise that it was named as one of the most welcoming destinations. While Lahaina is still recovering from the devastating 2023 fire, locals and tourists alike have worked endlessly to get the town back on its feet.
Once the capital of the Hawaiian Kingdom, Lahaina offers opportunities for tourism and cultural immersion. In the water, there's whale-watching (in season), pristine beaches for swimming, snorkeling, and even surfing. Shops and restaurants are slowly reopening and welcoming visitors with open arms and the rebuild the town. The iconic banyan tree in the town square survived the 2023 fire, symbolizing the resilient essence of Hawaiian perseverance.

Sedona, Arizona is a breathtaking desert oasis known for its striking red rock formations, vibrant arts scene, and spiritual energy. Surrounded by towering sandstone cliffs and scenic canyons, Sedona offers a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts with endless hiking, biking, and Jeep tours. Trails like Cathedral Rock and Devil's Bridge lead to awe-inspiring vistas, while Oak Creek provides a refreshing spot for swimming and picnicking.
Beyond its natural beauty, Sedona is a hub of creativity and relaxation. Enjoy a meal at one of the many restaurants with stunning outdoor patios, or explore the famous Tlaquepaque Arts & Shopping Village for local crafts and handmade treasures. The town is filled with art galleries, unique boutiques, and wellness centers offering everything from crystal healing to luxurious spa treatments, making it a fantastic destination for a romantic getaway or bachelor/ette celebration.

I LOVE Joshua Tree, both the National Park and the town. I've visited more than eight times, and I never get tired of it. It's also one of the more accessible National parks, with wheelchair and stroller friendly trails that weave between its spiky Joshua trees and massive boulder formations. It's also one of the best dark skies for stargazing in the otherwise light-dense Southern California.
Beyond the park, the town of Joshua Tree offers a quirky and vibrant atmosphere with an unmistakable bohemian vibe. Eclectic art galleries, vintage shops, and cozy cafés line the streets, and live music often fills the air in this creative community. Nearby, you can explore the Joshua Tree Farmers Market or visit the famous Noah Purifoy Outdoor Desert Art Museum for unique, open-air installations.

Newport, Rhode Island is a charming coastal New England gem. Stroll along the famous Cliff Walk, a scenic path where dramatic ocean waves meet the grandeur of Gilded Age mansions like The Breakers and Marble House, and offers (literal) million dollar scenic backdrops for photographers . The harbor is alive with sailboats, offering opportunities for sunset cruises or waterfront dining with fresh seafood and unbeatable views.
Newport also offers a vibrant cultural and social scene with unique boutiques, art galleries, and seasonal festivals that bring the town to life. Beach lovers can soak up the sun at Easton's Beach, while those seeking adventure can try sailing, kayaking, or paddleboarding. It's the perfect destination to those who love to cozy up in a cafe and strike up a conversation with a friendly neighborhood regular.

Whoever doesn't think New Jersey is a state worth visiting have clearly NEVER been to New Jersey. Specifically, Cape May earned its way into the SECOND most welcoming destination in the US because of everything it offers to travelers.
Cape May, New Jersey is a charming seaside town that feels like a step back in time with its beautifully preserved Victorian architecture and quaint walkable streets. The iconic Cape May Lighthouse provides sweeping views of the coastline, and dolphin-watching cruises or bike rides along the scenic promenade offer various ways to enjoy the ocean.
The Washington Street Mall is lined with local shops and art pop-ups that can fill an entire day of exploring. Throughout the year, Cape May hosts lively events like the Victorian Weekend and the Cape May Music Festival, adding even more things to do just outside of the big city hustle and bustle.

St. Augustine, Florida is known as the oldest city in the United Statess, and also THE most welcoming city according to hundreds of thousands of travelers. Cobblestone streets wind through the historic district, where centuries-old Spanish architecture, like the Castillo de San Marcos, stands proudly along the waterfront. Visitors can explore museums, take horse-drawn carriage rides, or climb the iconic St. Augustine Lighthouse for sweeping views of the Atlantic.
Beyond its rich past, St. Augustine boasts a lively atmosphere with an array of modern attractions as well, like the dozens of distinctive boutiques and beachfront cafes, so you can buy a new swimsuit and bask under the warm sun all in the same hour. The local food scene is thriving, with everything from fresh seafood to farm-to-table dining, often enjoyed with live music and ocean breezes. Unwind with a lantern-lit boardwalk stroll, or turn in early for the night and cuddle up to watch a few movies at your hotel.

Mississippi Aquarium beaver billboards show similarities with new Buc-ee's opening soon
Buc-ee isn't the only beaver flashing motorists on the interstate these days. A new billboard by the Mississippi Aquarium is putting one of its animals in the spotlight, taking its cue from the billboards advertising the new Buc-ee's Travel Center opening Monday, June 9, in Pass Christian. Buc-ee is the beaver mascot for the Texas-based company. The Aquarium used its own beavers as models for billboards on Coast highways that remind motorists to visit the family-friendly venue. "We heard you like beavers. (And clean bathrooms.)," one billboard reads. It, too, is a nod to Buc-ee's, which prides itself on clean restrooms. Another Aquarium billboard says, "We've got beavers, too." "We have quite a bit of different animals here," Aquarium spokeswoman Nicole Martz said in a phone interview. "We pride ourselves on all that we have to offer. We brainstormed a bit and thought it would be a great way to showcase these guys and also show a bit of Southern hospitality — and make people smile." Your questions answered: How big is the new MS Buc-ee's? When does it open? How many gas pumps, electric chargers? It started off with the Aquarium planning its next advertising campaign, to keep things fresh while attracting new and repeat visitors. From there, it grew into a spotlight on beavers and a nod to the new business, expected to bring thousands of new visitors stopping in Mississippi to check out the travel center. "We were thinking about how to keep things fresh and showcase some of our offerings, so we were looking at what animals might not get as much sunshine as they could," Aquarium spokeswoman Nicole Martz said in a phone interview. "The beavers came to mind because they are one of the first things you see when you come into the aquarium. People kind of gravitate towards them." Elvis, B.B. and King, as they are called, are curious critters, native to Mississippi, like the musicians they are named for, Martz said. "They are so adorable," she said. "They are so charismatic and they have their own personalities. They love to learn new things, and they are so much fun to watch." Here's what happened: Mississippi Aquarium releases 10 Kemp's Ridley sea turtles. Scott Gregory, general manager for Lamar Advertising, said his company works with the Aquarium to get their billboards in strategic locations and make sure the artwork is going to hold up among other things. He said the Aquarium team's creativity is impressive. "We've gotten a lot of positive feedback from that, but really, it's thanks to them," Gregory said. "They are really creative with their design and everything that's going on, right on top of Buc-ee's coming in. They knocked it out of the park with that." "There's definitely lots of buzz in the area," Martz said. "We're all about Southern hospitality and community. We wanted to make people smile and get people talking." Gregory said he enjoys how the Aquarium is using billboards to playfully promote their animals and events. We asked the Aquarium if Elvis, B.B. and King would be attending the grand opening at Buc-ee's as special guests to the travel center's mascot. It seems they will be giving it a miss this time around. "Well, they do like to chew things, as beavers do, so I don't know if they chewed up their invitations, but we're definitely cheering everybody on over here," Martz said. 19 People Stranded in Cars amid Heavy Snowfall Rescued in 'Treacherous' Conditions: Reports
More than 20 people became stranded in their vehicles during a heavy snowstorm near Mount Hotham in Victoria's High Country, Australia over the weekend Travelers got stuck in their vehicles "following more than 50cm of snowfall in the area," the Victoria State Emergency Service reported All 19 people who were trapped in their vehicles at Mount Hotham have since been rescued, ABC News Australia reported 19 people have reportedly been rescued after being trapped in their vehicles during a heavy snowstorm at Mount Hotham in the Victorian Alps, Australia. On Sunday, June 7, emergency services conducted a search and rescue operation to recover those who were stranded near Hotham Heights after 'more than 50cm of snowfall in the area,' the Victoria State Emergency Service (SES) announced in a press release on Facebook on Sunday, June 8. All 19 people who were trapped in their vehicles at Mount Hotham have now been rescued, ABC News Australia reported. While 13 were rescued on Sunday, a further six were brought to safety on Monday, June 9. No one remains trapped in the area, The Guardian reported, citing SES and police. The Guardian and 9 News reported that 13 motorists and two hikers were rescued on Sunday after getting trapped in the snow near Mount Hotham the previous night. They got stuck at around 10:50 p.m. traveling along Blue Rag Range Track near Dargo High Plains Road. Never miss a story — sign up for to stay up-to-date on the best of what PEOPLE has to offer, from celebrity news to compelling human interest stories. Half a dozen of those trapped were forced to spend a second night in their vehicles, ABC News Australia reported, citing SES Regional Duty Officer James Boler. "The rescue operation has actually been pretty treacherous," Boler told the outlet. The conditions up on the mountain have been very, very difficult to deal with." There has been 62 cm of snowfall in the region over the past week, with temperatures falling to -4.3-degree Celsius (24.2-degrees Farenheit), ABC News Australia reported. The Country Fire Association, Wangaratta ski club, and Hotham alpine resort have assisted SES in their rescue efforts, according to The Guardian. 'We were very surprised at the number of vehicles that we did come across yesterday…' SES Unit Controller Graham Gales said, per the U.K. outlet. 'The experience of our drivers going into the Dargo High Plains Road yesterday was even they were having difficulty, and these are people that basically work in the snow all year round.' On June 6, the Alpine Shire Council posted a weather warning on Facebook, stating that travelers should 'avoid the Dargo High Plains Road over the King's Birthday long weekend' due to 'snow and high winds' in the [Victorian] alps. 'If you're heading out on the roads, please drive to the conditions, pay attention to signage and don't drive on roads with closure notices in place,' the post read. PEOPLE has reached out to Victoria State Emergency Services for comment, but did not immediately hear back. Read the original article on People
