10 most welcoming destinations in the US for 2025 (according to 360 million people)
one of the best websites to book vacation accommodations, is proud to announce the recipients of its 13th annual Traveler Review Awards. Based on over 360 million verified customer reviews, the awards honor travel partners who consistently deliver outstanding hospitality and service. As one of those verified customers, so I can attest that EVERY review really does make an impact. Since I love domestic travel, the category I was most excited for was 'Most Welcoming Places,' which takes travelers from sea to shining sea across America. The ranking is calculated by each destination's volume of 2025 Traveler Review Awards, as well as the average rating for accommodations. For most people, Oklahoma is not very high on their travel list. But trust me when I tell you that it has two of my favorite cities in the country: Oklahoma City and Tulsa. But it was actually Oklahoma's quieter city of Broken Bow that stole the hearts of visitors in 2024. Broken Bow, Oklahoma, is an outdoor lover's paradise that offers a perfect blend of adventure and relaxation. One of the main attractions is the crystal-clear Broken Bow Lake, where visitors can enjoy boating, fishing, and kayaking against a backdrop of towering pines. Beyond its outdoor allure, the quaint town is filled with cozy cabins, boutique shops, and delicious local dining that showcase the best of Southern hospitality. After a day of exploring, unwind in one of the town's luxurious lodges or private retreats, many with hot tubs and scenic views. The Riser Blissful Pines Arizona is a state that I've been to a number of times, but I haven't been to many cities. I mostly just camp and do outdoorsy things, which is why I've had my eye on is Prescott, Arizona. Known as "Everybody's Hometown," Prescott is a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts, offering everything from leisurely strolls around Watson Lake to more challenging hikes in the surrounding wilderness. The Prescott National Forest provides ample opportunities for biking, horseback riding, and camping, while the cool, mountain climate makes it an ideal escape from the Arizona heat. In addition to its natural wonders, Prescott boasts a vibrant historic district, where visitors can wander through charming streets lined with Victorian architecture, antique shops, and local art galleries. The town's famous Whiskey Row is home to lively saloons and rich western heritage, offering a glimpse into the Old West with modern-day flair. Prescott's festivals and events, such as the Prescott Frontier Days Rodeo, add to its lively atmosphere, making it a perfect year-round destination. Hassayampa Inn Hotel St. Michael Now I absolutely LOVE Hawai'i. In fact, it was the destination that made me fall in love with traveling because of how AT HOME I felt when I visited back in my couchsurfing days. Since then, I have become a vocal advocate for Native Hawaiian rights and respect for their homelands. I am the farthest from surprised that the Hawaiian islands are recognized as one of the most welcoming destinations in the US. For Waikoloa specifically, located on the Big Island, it is a destination rich in cultural experiences - and of course the golden sands and vibrant reefs of Waikoloa Beach. Explore the nearby petroglyphs at Waikoloa Petroglyph Reserve, or take a scenic drive to the Waimea region to experience the charming paniolo (cowboy) culture. The area is also home to some of Hawaii's most incredible outdoor adventures, from hiking through lush rainforests and volcanic parks to zip-lining above waterfalls. Slide of Paradise Sweet Heaven California is one of the most popular states to visit, in part because of its numerous National Parks! Located just outside of one of the most popular, Yosemite National Park, is the small town of Oakhurst. Just a short drive from the southern entrance of Yosemite, Oakhurst offers stunning scenery, with rolling hills, towering pines, and crystal-clear streams. Visitors can explore hiking trails with breathtaking views, enjoy water activities at nearby Bass Lake, or take a scenic drive through the mountains. If you are still looking for ways to fill your itinerary outside of the National Park, Oakhurst also has the Fresno Flats Historic Village to step back in time and learn about California's pioneering days or catch live music and local art at community events. Sierra Sky Ranch Yosemite Southgate Hotel & Suites Lahaina is one of the most loved towns in the Hawaiian Islands, so it is no surprise that it was named as one of the most welcoming destinations. While Lahaina is still recovering from the devastating 2023 fire, locals and tourists alike have worked endlessly to get the town back on its feet. Once the capital of the Hawaiian Kingdom, Lahaina offers opportunities for tourism and cultural immersion. In the water, there's whale-watching (in season), pristine beaches for swimming, snorkeling, and even surfing. Shops and restaurants are slowly reopening and welcoming visitors with open arms and the rebuild the town. The iconic banyan tree in the town square survived the 2023 fire, symbolizing the resilient essence of Hawaiian perseverance. Napili Sunset Beach Front Resort Napili Shores Maui by OUTRIGGER Sedona, Arizona is a breathtaking desert oasis known for its striking red rock formations, vibrant arts scene, and spiritual energy. Surrounded by towering sandstone cliffs and scenic canyons, Sedona offers a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts with endless hiking, biking, and Jeep tours. Trails like Cathedral Rock and Devil's Bridge lead to awe-inspiring vistas, while Oak Creek provides a refreshing spot for swimming and picnicking. Beyond its natural beauty, Sedona is a hub of creativity and relaxation. Enjoy a meal at one of the many restaurants with stunning outdoor patios, or explore the famous Tlaquepaque Arts & Shopping Village for local crafts and handmade treasures. The town is filled with art galleries, unique boutiques, and wellness centers offering everything from crystal healing to luxurious spa treatments, making it a fantastic destination for a romantic getaway or bachelor/ette celebration. Sedona Pines Resort Matterhorn Inn I LOVE Joshua Tree, both the National Park and the town. I've visited more than eight times, and I never get tired of it. It's also one of the more accessible National parks, with wheelchair and stroller friendly trails that weave between its spiky Joshua trees and massive boulder formations. It's also one of the best dark skies for stargazing in the otherwise light-dense Southern California. Beyond the park, the town of Joshua Tree offers a quirky and vibrant atmosphere with an unmistakable bohemian vibe. Eclectic art galleries, vintage shops, and cozy cafés line the streets, and live music often fills the air in this creative community. Nearby, you can explore the Joshua Tree Farmers Market or visit the famous Noah Purifoy Outdoor Desert Art Museum for unique, open-air installations. The Bungalows by Homestead Modern Desert Cove Newport, Rhode Island is a charming coastal New England gem. Stroll along the famous Cliff Walk, a scenic path where dramatic ocean waves meet the grandeur of Gilded Age mansions like The Breakers and Marble House, and offers (literal) million dollar scenic backdrops for photographers . The harbor is alive with sailboats, offering opportunities for sunset cruises or waterfront dining with fresh seafood and unbeatable views. Newport also offers a vibrant cultural and social scene with unique boutiques, art galleries, and seasonal festivals that bring the town to life. Beach lovers can soak up the sun at Easton's Beach, while those seeking adventure can try sailing, kayaking, or paddleboarding. It's the perfect destination to those who love to cozy up in a cafe and strike up a conversation with a friendly neighborhood regular. Marshall Slocum Inn Wellington Resort Whoever doesn't think New Jersey is a state worth visiting have clearly NEVER been to New Jersey. Specifically, Cape May earned its way into the SECOND most welcoming destination in the US because of everything it offers to travelers. Cape May, New Jersey is a charming seaside town that feels like a step back in time with its beautifully preserved Victorian architecture and quaint walkable streets. The iconic Cape May Lighthouse provides sweeping views of the coastline, and dolphin-watching cruises or bike rides along the scenic promenade offer various ways to enjoy the ocean. The Washington Street Mall is lined with local shops and art pop-ups that can fill an entire day of exploring. Throughout the year, Cape May hosts lively events like the Victorian Weekend and the Cape May Music Festival, adding even more things to do just outside of the big city hustle and bustle. Angel of the Sea Bed and Breakfast La Mer Beachfront Resort St. Augustine, Florida is known as the oldest city in the United Statess, and also THE most welcoming city according to hundreds of thousands of travelers. Cobblestone streets wind through the historic district, where centuries-old Spanish architecture, like the Castillo de San Marcos, stands proudly along the waterfront. Visitors can explore museums, take horse-drawn carriage rides, or climb the iconic St. Augustine Lighthouse for sweeping views of the Atlantic. Beyond its rich past, St. Augustine boasts a lively atmosphere with an array of modern attractions as well, like the dozens of distinctive boutiques and beachfront cafes, so you can buy a new swimsuit and bask under the warm sun all in the same hour. The local food scene is thriving, with everything from fresh seafood to farm-to-table dining, often enjoyed with live music and ocean breezes. Unwind with a lantern-lit boardwalk stroll, or turn in early for the night and cuddle up to watch a few movies at your hotel. St George Inn Marker 8 Hotel and Marina

This Florida city ranks among the most welcoming in the world. What makes it special?
A Florida city boasts a 'vibrant coastal' setting — and is one of the world's most welcoming places to visit, a new report finds. St. Augustine ranks among the top 10 destinations for hospitality across the globe. The historic city also was named one of the most welcoming places in the United States, according to results from the travel website 'The US is such a diverse country that has so much to offer travelers, and we're thrilled to see destinations like Saint Augustine recognized in the global list for their exceptional hospitality,' Ben Harrell, the website's managing director for the U.S., wrote in a Jan. 27 news release. To create the list, said it first studied 'over 360 million verified customer reviews' that vacationers left for hotels, activities, flights and other transportation services. The winners in each of those categories earned Traveler Review Awards, which recognize top-notch hospitality. Then, the website chose the most welcoming cities based on several factors, such as 'each destination's volume' of 2025 award winners and their accommodations. What makes St. Augustine special? St. Augustine was the only place in the Sunshine State to earn spots on the global and nationwide lists. The city, a roughly 40-mile drive southeast from downtown Jacksonville, received nods for its shopping, architecture and nearby oceanfront attractions. 'St. Augustine, Florida, invites visitors to step back in time while enjoying the delights of a vibrant coastal city,' wrote in its report. 'Its historic downtown is lined with cobblestone streets and landmarks like the Castillo de San Marcos, a 17th-century stone fortress offering sweeping views of Matanzas Bay.' The Florida city, founded in 1565, calls itself the 'oldest continuously occupied settlement of European and African-American origin in the United States.' Centuries later, said the city has both luxurious and charming places for travelers to stay. 'Beyond its rich history, St. Augustine is home to miles of pristine beaches, inviting sunseekers and water sports enthusiasts alike,' the website wrote. 'Whether delving into centuries-old stories, savoring fresh coastal cuisine, or relaxing along the Atlantic shoreline, St. Augustine has the perfect combination of history, culture, and seaside relaxation.' didn't list the most welcoming global and U.S. cities in ranking order, a spokesperson told McClatchy News via email.
