Sources Reveal If Britney Spears Is Actually Planning an MTV VMAs Performance
Britney Spears won't be making an award show comeback performance anytime soon.
After rumors circulated online that Spears would hit the stage at this year's MTV Video Music Awards, possibly bringing her son Jayden along, multiple sources told TMZ that there is no truth to the speculation. She was 'never approached by the award show to perform, was never on the performers' list, and there are no plans in motion behind the scenes,' the outlet wrote.
Still, Spears's influence may well be felt at the ceremony. At last year's VMAs, artists like Megan Thee Stallion and Tate McRae were in Spears-inspired looks. Megan famously wore a python around her neck—a clear nod to Spears's iconic 2001 performance of 'I'm a Slave 4 U.'
McRae, meanwhile, also paid homage to Spears's 2001 VMA appearance by wearing a sheer lace Roberto Cavalli dress nearly identical to Spears's red carpet outfit.
Had Spears performed at the 2025 ceremony, it would have marked her first VMA appearance in nearly a decade. She last attended in 2016, when she took the stage alongside G-Eazy for their collaboration 'Make Me...,' from her ninth studio album, Glory.
The MTV Video Music Awards will air on Sept. 7, 2025.

Is Sydney Sweeney in ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2'? Here's Why Fans Think So
Nearly two decades after its initial release, The Devil Wears Prada is officially getting a sequel with most of its original cast members hopping on the project. Yes, you read that right—Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci are all reuniting at Runway magazine. Some fresh faces have also been cast, including Lucy Liu and Justin Thereaux, as well as Simone Ashley and Pauline Chalamet. Fake casting announcements featuring celebs like Dua Lipa and Cillian Murphy have also been circulating, but were quickly debunked. The latest pics that have been making rounds online seemingly feature Sydney Sweeney, who's disguised in track pants and a powder blue hoodie while trekking through New York on August 6. According to TMZ, the Euphoria star was spotted on set with Emily Blunt. Details on her role have not been revealed, and it's unclear whether she's playing a character or making a cameo as herself. The Devil Wears Prada 2 has been filming across New York City, after all, so it's not entirely far-fetched. Before Sydney's spotting, Anne Hathaway and Patrick Brammall were photographed shooting scenes at the Long Island Bar in Brooklyn on August 5. And, on July 29, she was filming with Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt in Hudson Yards. Sydney's involvement in the film has yet to be confirmed, but the buzz around her potential Devil Wears Prada role comes after she pulled up to the premiere of her latest film, Americana, alongside Halsey. She also has a few films slated for release later this year, including The Housemaid with Amanda Seyfried and a biopic about pro boxer Christy Martin. 'Christy Martin has been such an incredible transformation—physically, mentally, and emotionally. It's been one of the most immersive transformations I've ever made, and being able to have Christy on set with me almost every day has been inspiring and so emotional at the same time,' Sydney exclusively told Cosmopolitan of the film in February. She also shared details about her last day on set for the upcoming flick, adding, 'I remember on the last day, we were all crying and it was such a beautiful experience. It was also empowering to see someone who's gone through so much, sitting there and watching her life be performed and put together on a big screen.'

Kelly Clarkson's Ex-Husband Brandon Blackstock Battled Melanoma For 3 Years Before His Death: Report
Brandon Blackstock passed away at 48 years old after privately fighting a lengthy battle with melanoma. Sources confirmed to TMZ that the late talent manager had been diagnosed with the disease more than three years ago. While it is considered a 'highly curable' form of cancer if discovered early, according to the Mayo Clinic, it is also very dangerous due to its ability to spread quickly. Signs of melanoma can include moles that are itching or bleeding, are asymmetrical in shape or that have unusual colors. It is often caused by exposure to ultraviolet light. As Star previously reported, a representative of the family confirmed Blackstock's death on Thursday, August 7. 'Brandon bravely battled cancer for more than three years. He passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family,' the statement read, per People. 'We thank you for your thoughts and prayers and ask everyone to respect the family's privacy during this very difficult time.' Prior to the announcement, his ex-wife Kelly Clarkson, 43 – who welcomed daughter River, 11, and son Remington, 9, with Blackstock during their marriage — told fans that she would be postponing her August Studio Session concerts at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. 'While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children's father has been ill and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them,' she wrote in a statement shared on Instagram on Wednesday, August 6. 'I am sincerely sorry to everyone who bought tickets to the shows and I so appreciate your grace, kindness and understanding.' The American Idol alum and Blackstock separated in 2020 following seven years of marriage. Their divorce was finalized in March 2022.
