IIT Delhi launches 12-month online PG diploma in healthcare innovation
Offered by the Centre for Biomedical Engineering—a joint initiative of IIT Delhi and AIIMS Delhi—the Programme is tailored for professionals in biomedical engineering, biotechnology, life sciences, healthcare, and allied sectors.
Designed for future-focused learners, the diploma blends technical training with interdisciplinary insight, covering core areas like biomedical innovation, regulatory science, product lifecycle management, and healthcare entrepreneurship. Participants will be prepared for emerging roles such as Healthcare Product Manager, Health Data Analyst, Medical Technology Consultant, and Regulatory Affairs Specialist.
Prof. Arnab Chanda, Associate Professor at IIT Delhi and the Programmeme coordinator, emphasised the Programmeme's mission: 'Our goal is to build a generation of translational thinkers capable of bridging the gap between lab innovation and patient impact.'
Key features of the Programmeme include:
• Live, interactive online classes led by IIT Delhi faculty, doctors, and industry experts
• Hands-on projects, real-time simulations, and case-based learning
• Access to advanced tools like 3D printers, Autocad, Arduino, and UX/UI labs
• Optional campus immersion for networking and collaborative engagement
Spanning 18 academic credits, the curriculum also covers topics like biofabrication, wearable healthcare devices, soft tissue characterisation, and AI/ML applications in healthcare. Eligible candidates must hold a relevant degree or have two years of industry experience. Graduates will receive affiliate alumni status from IIT Delhi, enhancing future learning and professional networks.

Encouraging students to bring forward innovative ideas, Pradhan assured them that the government 'stands shoulder to shoulder with India's innovators and researchers for shaping a brighter future and for establishing India as a global hub of solutions.' He also underlined the crucial role of IITs as 'the bedrock of a self-reliant India.' 'After meeting these students, I can confidently say that by 2047, India will be a developed nation, in line with the dreams of the Prime Minister. I can see a golden future being created on the shoulders of our youth in the coming 20–25 years,' Pradhan said. Speaking on the occasion, Vineet Joshi, secretary, department of higher education, reiterated the Prime Minister's Independence Day message on the role of youth in making the country self-reliant. He added that the department is extending full support to higher education institutions in advancing innovation, strengthening research capacities and addressing national challenges.

Pradhan urges IIT students to lead innovation journey in India
New Delhi: Education minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Sunday called upon students of IIT-Delhi to lead India's innovation journey towards ' Atmanirbhar Bharat ', echoing PM Narendra Modi's Independence Day emphasis on self-reliance. Interacting with undergraduate and postgraduate students and doctoral researchers at the institute, Pradhan said the coming decades offer a "unique opportunity" to drive national priorities and achieve the vision of a Samridhh Bharat by 2047. He urged students to "keep hustling until we achieve self-reliance in every sphere" and assured them of govt support in translating their ideas into solutions of global relevance. "The talent, tenacity and resolve of our youth, coupled with the pursuit of self-reliance, will strengthen Bharat's capabilities and enhance her technological and economic sovereignty," the minister said, adding that IITs form the "bedrock" of this vision. He underlined that India's innovators and researchers would play a decisive role in establishing the country as a global hub of technology, enterprise and advanced problem solving. IIT-Kharagpur sets up centre to train youths as health professionals
Kolkata: The Indian Institute of Technology-Kharagpur has established a dedicated centre within its campus to train rural and semi-urban youths as health professionals, an official said on Saturday. The 'School for Skills: Healthcare & Technology' aims to foster inclusive growth and skill development in the healthcare sector, he said. The facility will initially accommodate 150 students annually, offering short-term certificate courses aligned with the National Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF). The programmes will culminate in certifications issued by the Healthcare Sector Skill Council. The trained workforce will support patient care at the Shyama Prasad Mukerji Super-Speciality Hospital at IIT-Kharagpur as well as other healthcare institutions, he said. Additionally, a section of the trained youths will participate in field trials and validation of healthcare technologies developed at IIT-Kharagpur, enabling systematic health data generation in rural regions of West Bengal and beyond. The inaugural batch will commence classes in November 2025, with plans to expand course offerings in the coming years. The initiative is expected to generate employment in the health sector, empower women, uplift economically weaker sections, and strengthen community resilience, the official said. "By combining skill development with cutting-edge technology, we aim to build a healthcare workforce that can serve the last mile, transform rural healthcare delivery, and contribute to the nation's vision of inclusive growth," IIT-Kharagpur Director Suman Chakraborty said.
