Coastguard warning as 'number of incidents' occur
On Friday, Falmouth Coastguard said it tasked its Lands End and Penzance rescue teams to assist a woman with a broken leg, and Bude and Boscastle coastguard rescue teams to assist and locate a man who had fallen on his ankle.
They said staff also dealt with a capsized boat in Salcombe Harbour on Saturday morning.
Gill Rylance, from the service, said the message was "be aware of the weather conditions" and stay in touch with somebody.
She said: "We're already coordinating an incident in Salcombe Harbour. We took a report of a vessel of three persons, their boat had capsized and three persons were in the water.
"They have been recovered from the water by a harbour vessel and the inshore lifeboat with Salcombe and Kingsbridge coastguard rescue team are going to assist."
Ms Rylance said the public needed to be aware of the tides which were still "fairly high".
She said: "Have a fully charged form of communication with you.
"If you are going walking or rock-pooling, let somebody know where you're going and how long you're likely to be so they are aware of when you should be back.
"If you are going over the rocks, keep an eye out for a way to get out should you be caught out by the tide; but also, if you see anything you think is of concern, then dial 999 and ask for the coastguard."

Gatwick passengers warned of severe August delays amid baggage screener strike
Holidaymakers flying from Gatwick Airport could face severe delays as baggage screeners prepare to strike over pay, the UK's largest union has warned. The walkout, set for later this month and covering the August bank holiday, is expected to disrupt travel for thousands of passengers. Baggage screeners will strike from August 22 to August 26 and from August 29 to September 2, Unite the Union has said. All flights out of Gatwick will face disruption during these times, the union said, warning industrial action will intensify if the dispute is not resolved. Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said'ICTS has more than enough money to offer these workers a fair pay rise. Not doing so is just corporate greed. 'ICTS' Gatwick workers will receive Unite's complete backing for as long as it takes during their strikes for fair pay.' Unite has said workers, employed by ICTS, are amongst the lowest paid workers at the airport and earn just above the minimum wage. Despite this, ICTS's turnover has grown by 110 per cent since 2020, reaching £170.59 million in 2024, the union said. It made a profit before tax of £6.1 million in 2024, a 46.9 per cent increase compared to the year before. Unite regional officer Ben Davis said: 'ICTS is entirely responsible for the disruption that will be caused to Gatwick passengers during the strike action. It can well afford to put forward an acceptable pay offer and that is what needs to happen. 'Despite performing a critical role, these workers are amongst the lowest paid at the airport. Gatwick should be stepping in and pressuring ICTS to put an improved offer forward.' A spokesperson for Gatwick said the airport does not anticipate significant disruption if strikes were to go ahead. They said: 'We are working with our suppliers to avoid any impacts and we expect to operate a normal summer holiday flight schedule for our airlines and passengers on these dates. Of course, we hope ICTS and their union can reach a resolution before then.' ICTS has been contacted by The Standard for comment.

Prince William and Princess Kate are likely to be enjoying the blissful summer sunshine just like the rest of us, but the UK's latest heatwave comes with a major warning, particularly for the Wales family. There has been an Amber Alert issued across many parts of the UK by the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) due to the extreme temperatures. The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) have stressed that homeowners near green spaces are particularly at risk and as the Prince and Princess of Wales live at Adelaide Cottage on the Great Windsor estate, they could be in more danger. There are multiple reasons that open expanses of grass are hotspots for incidents. The area can draw tourists and cigarette butts and barbecues are major culprits that can spark devastating fires. Recently, there have been incidents in Dorset and at Arthur's Seat in Edinburgh. Steve Cole, Director of Policy at RoSPA said: "These fires are a stark reminder that the UK is not immune to the dangers of extreme heat. With temperatures soaring and vegetation drying out, the risk of wildfires increases dramatically, even in urban and coastal areas. "The fact is that many wildfires are preventable. Simple actions—like properly disposing of cigarettes, and avoiding open flames can make a huge difference. Drivers told don't leave common item in car before Wednesday
Motorists have been warned to avoid leaving one dangerous item in their car this week. Another heatwave is set to roast the UK this week with temperatures reaching 34C, reports The Met Office predicted that parts of England are "likely to reach heatwave criteria by midweek", and weather maps predict that much of the UK will enjoy temperatures above 25C. And in searing, 30C-plus temperatures, a retailer has warned about keeping certain products inside a hot car. It also urged drivers to avoid storing gadgets in glove compartments, where heat builds rapidly and to check devices regularly for signs of swelling, cracks, or heat damage. Cheap or counterfeit devices are especially risky, and some car insurance policies may not cover fire damage caused by improperly stored electronics. Mike Byers adds: 'Imagine stepping out for five minutes — and coming back to smoke, damage, or worse. "With travel season in full swing, don't let one small mistake ruin your holiday, leave you stranded or write off your car.'
