At least six people were injured at Florida State University after an active shooter was reported on its Tallahassee campus on Thursday morning.
"Continue to shelter in place. Law enforcement is actively clearing rooms on the main campus. Law enforcement officers will use the safe word SEMINOLE to confirm it is safe to open the door. Continue to shelter in place until law enforcement contacts you," the most recent FSU Alert stated at 1:04 p.m.
Tallahassee Police Department spokesperson Alicia Turner confirmed to the Tallahassee Democrat that they have 'a man in custody' and "multiple injuries" but did not specify a number or comment on social media rumors of more shooters.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren's office issued a report Tuesday chronicling Elon Musk's "130 days" in President Donald Trump's administration, accusing the billionaire of using his government perch to enrich himself and his businesses. "Musk and individuals acting on his behalf have been involved in dozens of questionable actions that raise questions about corruption, ethics and conflicts of interest," says the report by the Massachusetts Democrat's office. It accuses Musk of violating "norms at an astonishing pace," actions that it calls "scandalous behavior regardless of whether it subjects him to criminal prosecution." The White House did not respond to CNBC's request for comment on the report. CNBC also reached out for comment to Musk, Quinn Emanuel partner Alex Spiro and Omead Afshar, a Tesla vice president. They did not immediately respond to requests for comment. For instance, it says that the Occupational Safety and Health Administration closed an investigation into Tesla for "allegedly violating workplace safety rules." "Musk's companies have received or are being considered for large contracts with the federal government, with foreign governments, and with other private sector companies," the report says. The report is not the first time that Musk has come under fire for alleged conflicts of interest during his DOGE tenure. Three Democratic senators, including Warren, sent a letter last week urging the Justice Department and other authorities to probe whether DOGE employees broke conflict-of-interest laws by owning stocks in companies that may have benefited from their government-cutting work.

Gov. Polis signs bill meant to help Colorado tackle sexual assault kit backlog

Jared Polis signed a bill Tuesday intended to improve to the Colorado Bureau of Investigations' capacity to review sexual assault kits, which include DNA samples and other evidence from survivors. Senate Bill 25-304 establishes the Colorado Sexual Assault Forensic Medical Evidence Review Board, which will review the effectiveness of the state's medical, legal and criminal response to sexual assault and make victim-centered recommendations to the Colorado Legislature. The governor and attorney general have until Aug. 1 to appoint members of the board, including representatives from state agencies and various organizations that advocate for sexual assault victims. The board will need to submit a preliminary report to the Legislature by Dec. 15. The bill also sets a 60-day turnaround goal for crime labs reviewing forensic medical evidence from sexual assault kits. The agency's current goal is 90 days, which it expects to achieve in 2027. The estimated turnaround time for kits at the end of April was about a year and a half, with 1,369 kits in the backlog, according to a recently implemented data dashboard. Colorado's forensic services are facing a historic backlog of sexual assault kits due to reduced staff capacity and ballooning fallout from the discovery that a former CBI forensic scientist manipulated more than 1,000 DNA test results over her career. The backlog means delayed justice for survivors, as DNA evidence can often be critical for a criminal conviction. The bill originally would have created a full-time position to oversee the state's work to improve the kit review process, but it was amended to reduce spending given the tight budget year. Gretchen Whitmer says she spoke to Trump after he said he was considering pardoning men who plotted to kidnap her
Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer said Tuesday that she spoke to President Donald Trump after he said last week he was considering potentially pardoning the men who plotted to kidnap her. 'I will just confirm that I have connected with the president directly on this subject and made my thoughts known," Whitmer told reporters at an event in Detroit, according to her office. "Beyond that, I'm not going to share more about our conversation but hopefully he'll take some of those things into consideration when he makes a decision," she said. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed later Tuesday that Trump and Whitmer, a Democrat, had spoken. She declined to disclose any additional details about the conversation but said, "I will reiterate what he said publicly when he was asked by one of the journalists in this room in the Oval Office a couple of weeks ago about the pardons. He said it's something he would look at, nothing more, nothing less.' The president told reporters at a press event in the Oval Office that he would "take a look" at potential pardons for the men who were convicted in the kidnapping plot. "I'm going to look at it. I will take a look at it. It's been brought to my attention. I did watch the trial. It looked to me like somewhat of a railroad job," he said after a reporter asked about it. Whitmer, who has met with Trump in person multiple times this year, told NBC affiliate WOOD last week that she was 'very disappointed' that he was considering it. 'I'll be making my thoughts known to the White House and I hope they take it into consideration," she said. Over a dozen men were initially charged in the kidnapping scheme, though not all of them were tried in federal court (Trump doesn't have the power to intervene in state cases). Barry Croft Jr., who prosecutors said was the ringleader, is currently serving a nearly 20-year sentence in federal prison. A key co-conspirator, Adam Fox, was given a 16-year prison sentence. Whitmer, a potential 2028 Democratic presidential contender, has faced criticism from members of her party over her amicable relationship with the president. Trump has continued to flex his pardoning powers in his second term, issuing pardons last week to former reality TV stars Todd and Julie Chrisley, former Rep. Michael Grimm, R-N.Y., among others.
