Celtic pass up SPFL postponement as Rangers and others use new rule
The league introduced a new ruling this season to offer clubs flexibility in their attempts to reach the league phase of UEFA competitions.
Premiership sides can postpone one league match from round three if they reach the play-off stage of the Champions League, Europa League or Conference League.
The postponement would give the teams a full week free between the first and second leg of their crucial European ties.
Dundee United's home game against Aberdeen on Saturday, August 23 has been postponed following a request by Aberdeen, who will be participating in the Europa League play-offs. United could also be in a play-off if they defeat Rapid Vienna in their Conference League third qualifying round tie.
Hibernian have already informed the SPFL that they wish to postpone their away game against Falkirk if they progress past Partizan Belgrade in the Conference League, while Rangers' match at St Mirren, which had been moved for Sky coverage to Sunday August 24, will also be off if the Ibrox club get to the Champions League play-off.
However, the league have said that following discussions with Celtic, their home match versus Livingston remains scheduled for 3.00pm on Saturday August 23.
No reason has been given for Celtic's decision but with the Scottish champions not having played any previous qualifiers, manager Brendan Rodgers may want players to have more game time early in the season.

Chelsea striker joins Sunderland on season-long loan deal with special clause
Chelsea have announced that Marc Guiu has joined Sunderland on a season-long loan deal for the 2025-26 Premier League season. A special clause has been inserted, with Sunderland being forced to pay Chelsea a 'financial penalty' if Guiu doesn't hit a certain appearance threshold, according to reports. The move is likely to catch the attention of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) players, given that the striker is available to buy for just £4.5m in the game. Sunderland were promoted to the top-flight last season after winning the Championship play-off final and host West Ham in their first match of the 2025-26 season, with the Black Cats then facing Burnley and Brentford. Guiu made 16 appearances for Chelsea last term after he was signed from Barcelona and netted six goals, becoming their top scorer in the Conference League. The 19-year-old featured twice for Chelsea at the Club World Cup this summer as the Blues went on to land the trophy. 'I'm feeling great and really looking forward to the season ahead,' Guiu told the Sunderland website. 'I see myself as a powerful striker, who can make a difference on and off the ball, and I pride myself on being a natural goalscorer. 'This year is a huge opportunity for me to help take this team where it truly deserves to be, and I can't wait to get started.' Sunderland's sporting director Kristjaan Speakman added: 'In a loan acquisition, we not only have to convince the player but also the parent club, and we thank Chelsea for placing their trust in us. 'Most importantly, Marc wanted to come to Sunderland and be a part of our club. 'The competition for his signature was significant, and he had many high-quality options this summer, so we are delighted he's joined Sunderland. More Trending 'Marc's a progressive striker who has key attributes that align with the role in our team. 'In addition to providing a threat in the final third, we believe there are many other ways he can impact games, and we look forward to helping him do that throughout the 2025-26 season.' Chelsea, meanwhile, said in a statement: 'We look forward to supporting and monitoring Marc's development throughout his loan at the Stadium of Light.' Guiu came through Barcelona's academy and the teenager has played for Spain at U17 and U19 level. Alan Shearer gives brutally honest verdict on Man Utd's Benjamin Sesko transfer
Newcastle have been looking to land Benjamin Sesko from Leipzig but look to have lost out to Manchester United in what is their latest transfer blow this summer Alan Shearer concedes it is "disappointing again from Newcastle" if they do lose out on Benjamin Sesko to Manchester United - given the hugely superior season they had in comparison to their rivals. The Magpies enjoyed a historic year as Eddie Howe led them to their first trophy in more than half a century and also secured a return to the Champions League. Those in Manchester meanwhile endured their worst ever Premier League season, finishing 15th. Newcastle also enjoyed a dominant double over the Red Devils - securing an aggregate win of 6-1 across the two games - yet their most ambitious summer target looks to have expressed a preference to join United. Sesko has continued to blossom at RB Leipzig and is viewed among the best young strikers in Europe. Newcastle acted first in an effort to land the Slovenian, who they see as the ideal replacement for Alexander Isak, but the Manchester outfit have now swooped in and look to have won the race. Shearer is frustrated that another marquee target looks to have passed Newcastle by as they fail to build on one of the club's great seasons. He told Betfair: "It sounds as if Benjamin Sesko had two clubs to choose from in Newcastle and Man United. One that won a trophy last year and is now playing Champions League football this season - and one that didn't win anything, finished 15th and had a dreadful season. "I understand that Man United are a huge football club, not so much a huge football team at this moment in time. I get it. I understand it. It looks as if, by all accounts, he prefers a move to Man United. It's disappointing again from Newcastle, another target it looks like they're going to miss out on and I said it about a week ago, it looks as if it's been a disastrous window for Newcastle." Howe has continued to miss out on key targets which means Newcastle have struggled to strengthen their squad ahead of their second crack at the Champions League. Antony Elanga, signed from Nottingham Forest for £55million, is their only new recruit. They've seen the likes of Joao Pedro, Bryan Mbeumo and James Trafford all head for other clubs despite Newcastle's interest being well documented. The biggest blow could yet come in the form of Isak's exit with the Swede informing the club he wants to leave as Liverpool circle.
