Harish Rao urges SEBI to probe Gachibowli land deal made in violation of norms

HYDERABAD
Senior leader of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi and former minister T. Harish Rao has requested the Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) to order an investigation into serious irregularities and potential violations of SEBI regulations by the Telangana State Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TGIIC) and the Government of Telangana.
In the letter addressed to the SEBI Chairman on Thursday, Mr. Harish Rao raised strong objections over the mortgaging of 400 acres of land in Kancha Gachibowli in the city, and it has been flagged by a Supreme Court-appointed Central Empowered Committee as 'forest-like' and environmentally sensitive. The land has reportedly been used to raise a huge loan through Non-Convertible Debentures (NCDs,) allegedly without disclosing its legal and environmental status to lenders/investors.
'This is not just a financial violation, but it is also misuse of natural resources for questionable financial engineering', Mr. Harish Rao said. Flagging the financial capacity of TGIIC, he noted that its annual turnover was reportedly less than ₹150 crore, while it was raising thousands of crores through NCDs, a move that raises red flags over the repayment ability and disclosure norms.
He further questioned the recent conversion of TGIIC from a private limited company to a public limited company, alleging that this structural change could have been carried out without full regulatory transparency or compliance with the Companies Act and SEBI guidelines.
Further, Mr. Harish Rao stated in the letter to SEBI that merchant bankers were paid over ₹169 crore plus GST to structure these transactions, despite the questionable status of the land used as collateral. He requested SEBI to investigate the entire chain of transactions and hold all parties accountable, and provided supporting documents.

BRS Holds Preparatory Meeting Ahead of Local Body Elections in Gadwal – Basu Hanumanthu Naidu Asserts People Will Support BRS

Gadwal: A crucial preparatory meeting of key Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) party workers was held at the district BRS office in Gadwal town on Thursday in anticipation of the upcoming local body elections. The session was presided over by Gadwal constituency BRS in-charge Basu Hanumanthu Naidu, who strongly asserted that people would unequivocally stand by the BRS in the forthcoming elections. Addressing the gathering, Hanumanthu Naidu launched a scathing attack on the Congress-led state government, accusing it of implementing anti-people policies that have adversely affected various sections of society, including farmers, laborers, students, and women. He stressed that due to the government's failure to deliver on its welfare promises, the upcoming local elections have become inevitable. He also emphasized the importance of implementing 42% reservations in local body elections as outlined in the Kamareddy Declaration, a commitment made by the BRS leadership. Congress Failed to Deliver Promises Hanumanthu Naidu criticized the Congress party for its inability to fulfill its election promises, particularly the "420 assurances" and the much-publicized six guarantees. He claimed that public sentiment was turning against the Congress due to its inefficiency, and predicted that schemes like Rythu Bharosa might be withdrawn after the elections. This, he warned, could deepen the dissatisfaction among the farming community. Strategic Call to Action Calling upon BRS cadres to remain election-ready, he directed mandal-level leaders to immediately begin touring villages and exposing the Congress party's failures to the people. He urged them to build awareness among the masses and to mobilize the party's grassroots network in preparation for the electoral battle. He further shared strategic guidelines with party leaders and activists on how to approach the public, gain trust, and effectively communicate the party's vision. Hanumanthu Naidu stated that the time had come to pressurize the government into fulfilling its promises by ensuring the victory of BRS candidates in the local polls. Broad Participation in the Meeting The preparatory meeting witnessed a large turnout of BRS leaders and workers, including: Nagar Doddi Venkata Ramulu, Chakradhar Rao, G. Raghavendra Reddy, Monesh, Raja Reddy, Srinivas Goud, Chakridhar Reddy, Atukuri Rehman, Jampalli Bharat Simha Reddy, Beechupalli D. Shekhar Naidu S. SC to hear plea against Maratha quota in July

New Delhi: The Supreme Court will take up a plea seeking stay on the Maratha quota law in July. A plea has been filed in the top Court challenging the Bombay High Court 's interim order, which refused to stay the Maratha quota law and allowed the community to provisionally avail the 10% reservation , subject to the result of the petitions challenging it. A division bench comprising Justices KV Viswanathan and NK Singh Thursday allowed the listing of the plea on the week commencing July 14 (when the Supreme Court reopens after summer break). The plea was mentioned by a lawyer seeking urgent listing of the matter. The counsel argued that the Bombay High Court refused to stay the Maratha reservation and allowed its operation on a provisional basis. A three-judge bench of the High Court passed the order on June 11 allowing the Maratha community to avail 10% reservation in education and employment, subject to the final outcome of the petitions challenging the 2024 Maratha quota law. The High Court also proposed to hold special Saturday sittings to hear the challenge, pursuant to a Supreme Court direction to decide the matter expeditiously. Economic Times WhatsApp channel )
