Rodman scores, departs after 28 minutes for Washington Spirit in Concacaf W Champions Cup
Trinity Rodman had a curious Tuesday night, with the U.S. women's national team star scoring a goal off the bench in a Concacaf W Champions Cup clash for the Washington Spirit before departing in a 28-minute appearance. Spirit Airlines Issues Major Warning After Bankruptcy
In its quarterly report issued on Monday, Aug. 11, Spirit Airlines issued a major warning regarding the airline's future as a company. After filing for bankruptcy in 2024, the airline revealed it's in imminent danger of shuttering if it doesn't raise more cash. Spirit Airlines Issues Stern Warning Spirit initially cut its debt during restructuring and emerged from bankruptcy five months ago as the airline attempted to attract bookings with more upscale products while cutting costs - like furloughing 270 pilots. 'However, the Company has continued to be affected by adverse market conditions, including elevated domestic capacity and continued weak demand for domestic leisure travel in the second quarter of 2025, resulting in a challenging pricing environment,' the company said in its quarterly report late Monday. The airline warned it needs additional cash to avoid defaults. In an attempt to stave off the end, Spirit is attempting to sell aircraft, real estate or airport gates, the airline revealed in its statement. 'Because of the uncertainty of successfully completing the initiatives to comply with the minimum liquidity covenants and of the outcome of discussions with Company stakeholders, management has concluded there is substantial doubt as to the Company's ability to continue as a going concern within 12 months from the date these financial statements are issued,' it said in the filing. Spirit's Troubles Come After Warning From United CEO The trouble for Spirit came just two months after United CEO Scott Kirby warned that most airlines were losing money on a significant portion of their flights, which means they would eventually have to start making cuts - opening the door for United and Delta Air Lines to make more money. "And if I dig deeper into it and I look at every airline that's not named United or Delta, I can find at every single one of them, a double-digit percentage of their route network that loses money. And the only way for them to get margins that are anywhere close to their WAC is to stop flying places that lose money. And that is going to ultimately happen," he said. "But I can look at how much money is being lost route by route and know that economic gravity is ultimately going to win.
