Jennifer Love Hewitt slams Sarah Michelle Gellar feud rumors

New York Post2 days ago
She knows what they did last summer.
As the modern classic 1997 horror movie 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' has gotten a 2025 revival (now in theaters), there have been rumors of a feud between original stars Jennifer Love Hewitt, 46, and Sarah Michelle Gellar, 48.
'I honestly remain still so confused by all of that stuff,' Hewitt exclusively told The Post.
The 'Can't Hardly Wait' actress, who was talking to The Post to promote her ID series 'A Killer Among Friends (airing Mondays 10 p.m. on ID and streaming on HBO Max), added, 'I just feel like we're in a business where they always want women to have a problem with each other.'

'Nobody asked how often Freddie and Ryan have seen each other since the original movie,' she added, referring to Freddie Prinze Jr. 48, and Ryan Phillippe, 50.
The rumors of bad blood between Gellar and Hewitt started after the pair didn't pose together for pictures on the red carpet of the sequel's premiere on July 14.
Hewitt told The Post that feud rumors, 'seems to be things that they do to women in particular, and it's not necessary.'
'I have absolutely zero beef with Sarah at all,' she went on. 'In fact, I applaud her for being a long-standing badass career woman, a mom, wife – all the things that I am, that we have in common.'

The '9-1-1' actress shares three kids with her husband, actor Brian Hallisay, who she married in 2013: Autumn, 11, Atticus, 10, and Aidan, 3.
The 'Buffy The Vampire Slayer' star, meanwhile, shares two kids with Prinze Jr., who she married in 2002: Charlotte, 15, and Rocky, 12.
Hewitt concluded to The Post that that the feud rumors are 'just really unfortunate.'
'We run in different circles,' Prinze Jr. recently told Variety. 'I hadn't seen [Hewitt] since we wrapped the second movie in '98, but we care a lot about these characters, and it was all still there.'
Hewitt previously said that she hasn't talked to Gellar since they were 18 in the 1997 movie.
Gellar also addressed the rumors on social media.

'For everyone asking — I never got to see @jenniferlovehewitt, who is fantastic in the movie,' she wrote via Instagram on July 16. 'I was inside with my kids when the big carpet happened. And unfortunately, JLH didn't come to the after-party.'
The 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' star added, 'If you have ever been to one of these, it's crazy. I sadly didn't get pics with most of the cast. But that doesn't change how amazing I think they all are. Unfortunately, some things happen only in real life and not online.'
The 1997 Kevin Williamson-written film followed a group of four friends who accidentally kill a man. One year later, they're stalked by a hook-wielding killer.
Hewitt and Prinze Jr's characters were the only ones to survive – Gellar and Phillippe's characters both kicked the bucket.
Taking to The Post in May, Phillippe joked about how often he dies onscreen.

'[For 'Big Sky'] they put me all over the key art and the billboards, and then I died in the first episode,' he said, referring to his ABC series, which ran from 2020 to 2023.
'So I had a lot of people that were very angry with me about that. A lot of friends or fans were like, 'Oh, we're going to watch this show and you die in the first episode!' Now, I have to assure anyone when I'm in a project that I'm going to be in more than one episode.'
The latest 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' ended with a wild post-credits scene, suggesting more movies in the franchise could happen.
'Oh my gosh, I have no idea. I mean, truthfully, I was just excited to be asked back for this one. So I don't want to be too greedy,' Hewitt told The Post. 'But as long as there's a really interesting, fun story to tell, and as long the people still care about the characters, I'm always happy to hopefully find my way back there.'

Hundreds of Gen Zers attempt world record at largest PACER test in Central Park, fueled by gym class nostalgia: ‘Childhood nightmare'

Forget lookalike contests and run clubs. The latest tongue-in-cheek meet-up for socially starved young New Yorkers had them reliving their gym class 'nightmares.' More than 200 Gen Zers flocked to Central Park Saturday morning to attempt to smash the world record for the largest FitnessGram PACER test – for many, a dreaded grade school running exam – after a flyer promoting the bizarre event went viral on social media. 6 More than 200 Gen Zers flocked to Central Park Saturday morning to attempt the world record at the largest FitnessGram PACER test – for many, a dreaded grade school running assessment. Stephen Yang Advertisement The fitness test, described as a 'childhood nightmare' by one bystander, requires participants to run across a 20-meter field in timed intervals that become increasingly faster. If a runner doesn't clear the field before time is up, they are eliminated from the race. 'I think everyone can relate to it because we all did it growing up,' said Jordan Haber, the 24-year-old Boca Raton, Florida native who created the Partiful event that garnered over 600 'interested' RSVPs online. 'It's free, it's accessible, it's all ages, it's something from their childhood.' Haber — who last made headlines after discovering a loophole that allowed him to become eligible for the NBA Draft despite having no prior experience playing basketball in college, high school or middle school — told The Post he found inspiration for the event after seeing a Hinge prompt quoting the PACER test's meme-ified opening instructions. Stephen Yang The running exam, also called the Bleep test, represents a shared experience among many Gen Zers, allowing them to connect — or even trauma bond, depending on their middle school memories. 'It's like how we all have the PSAT memes and bonded over that,' one runner explained. 'People might not have done well on that, but … it's something a lot of people know.' 6 Haber told The Post he found inspiration for the event after seeing a Hinge prompt quoting the PACER test's meme-ified opening instructions. Courtesy of Jordan Haber Advertisement Fresh-faced participants agreed the event — complete with a 'Diary of a Wimpy Kid'-themed promotional poster — brought back a flood of early aughts grade school memories. 'I grew up in New York City, and it was a part of normal gym class — when I saw it online, I felt a sense of nostalgia for it,' said 28-year-old Bushwick resident Emily Akers, who brought her boyfriend Jonah Daniell, 30, to try the test for the first time. 'Being an adult now and prioritizing working out more than I did when I was 15, I thought it would be fun to do it again,' she said, adding: 'In high school, I threw up [during the test], and it might happen again.' 'We just want to be kids again,' said 21-year-old nursing student Olivia Stueber. 'I need to reclaim my score from middle school, being one of the first ones out.' Advertisement 'I'm doing it for nostalgia,' said 25-year-old Harlem resident Max Silverman, 'and it's an excuse to work out on a Saturday morning.' 6 Participants agreed the event — complete with a 'Diary of a Wimpy Kid'-themed promotional poster — brought back early aughts grade school memories. Stephen Yang Some attendees noted the gym class revival put a fun spin on Manhattan's trendy run clubs — and even re-contextualized stressful memories of the classroom test. 'When I was in school, we were like 'Ugh, we have to do it again?' And now people join here just for fun,' said spectator Merce llunell, a native of Barcelona, Spain, who said she would be interested in participating if Haber were to make it a regular event. 'You miss it.' 6 Aric Cutuli, 24, of Manhattan (center), won the contest and said he prepared by having fewer alcoholic beverages than typical the night before. Stephen Yang 'I didn't do too well on it in elementary school, so I'm trying to do better,' said 22-year-old Jacob Halabe. 'There was always one kid when everyone would be done and he would just be styling on people.' The race winner Aric Cutuli — who finished with 51 laps — admitted he was 'always that kid in P.E. who was the try-hard.' 'I did better than I thought I would,' Cutuli, a 24-year-old Murray Hill resident and San Jose, California native, told The Post. Advertisement 6 Organizer Jordan Haber, 24, speaks to PACER test participants in Central Park's Sheep Meadow. Stephen Yang When asked how he prepared, he said: 'I didn't drink that much last night.' Though the event didn't draw nearly as many participants needed to break the world record (held by Army Foundation College in Harrogate, England with 941 runners), Haber argued the real point of the event was to foster a shared camaraderie among young New York City residents — especially for a demographic whose high school and college years were impacted by the social isolation of the COVID pandemic. Haber noted that, while the bizarre event was inspired by popular massive gatherings like the Timothee Chalamet lookalike contest and the 'Cheeseball man' eating events, the ability for attendees to participate is a major draw for Gen Z. Advertisement 'Manhattan is a big city and people get lost in it: people here are probably going to meet and make friends,' he said. 'It gets people out of the house … a lot of people probably came alone.' 'Nobody asked me if we broke the world record,' Haber added. 'Everyone was just like, 'This was really cool.''

Jennifer Love Hewitt Has 'No Idea' How Feud Rumors With Sarah Michelle Gellar Even Started

There is no feud, people! That is what Jennifer Love Hewitt wants everyone to know when it comes to her relationship with Sarah Michelle Gellar in the wake of the I Know What You Did Last Summer sequel release. But the 46-year-old actress seems just as perplexed as everyone else as to how the rumors even began. More from SheKnows Freddie Prinze Jr. Shuts Down the 'Hot' Hollywood Couple Myth About Sarah Michelle Gellar Marriage Hewitt had to go all the way back to 1997 — yes, 28 years ago — to figure out why people believe they are frenemies. 'I honestly don't even know what that was or how that all came to be,' she said in a July 18 interview with Vulture. 'I just think people don't want the narrative to be easy. Why do we always have to be against each other and out for each other?' 'I haven't seen Sarah,' she continued. 'Literally, we've not talked since I saw her at 18 years old when the first movie came out. That's why it's so funny to me. People were like, 'Say something back.' And I'm like, 'What am I going to say? I've not seen her.' On my side, we're good. I have no idea where this is coming from.' So, while they aren't besties, they don't hate each other either. Hewitt and Gellar went their separate ways in 1997 and lived their lives. There isn't any bad blood, and even Gellar had to address the situation in a July 16 Instagram post. 'For everyone asking – I never got to see @jenniferlovehewitt, who is fantastic in the movie. I was inside with my kids when the big carpet happened,' Gellar wrote in the comments. 'And unfortunately, JLH didn't come to the after party. If you have ever been to one of these, it's crazy. I sadly didn't get pics with most of the cast. But that doesn't change how amazing I think they all are. Unfortunately, some things happen only in real life and not online.' This isn't the first time Gellar has addressed their reported feud — it reared its ugly head in December 2024 after she had an awkward interview with Extra. Fans thought she was dissing Hewitt, but Gellar insisted she didn't want to reveal any I Know What You Did Last Summer spoilers ahead of filming. Gellar, who also starred in the 1997 film with Hewitt and her now-husband Freddie Prinze Jr., wasn't in the sequel because — spoiler alert — her character was killed in the first movie. She's now busy working on the Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot for Hulu. So, let's call this Hollywood case closed. Jennifer Love Hewitt Heartbreakingly Reveals She Doesn't Know if She ‘Ever Recovered' From This 2007 Paparazzi Moment

Jennifer Love Hewitt has been in the spotlight for decades; and heck, fans have practically grown up with her! We've seen her as a child actor turned teen 'it' girl into a beloved TV actor we can't get enough of. She's been seen as a sex symbol for so long, but recently, she's opened up about the dark side of that status, and how it gave her the one instance she felt insecure about herself. In a recent interview with Vulture, the I Know What You Did Last Summer star said, 'Before I even knew what sex was, I was a sex symbol. I still don't know that I have that fully defined for myself because it started so weird.' But along with grappling that, there was a popular 2007 cover story that hurt her: the one where we see her in a bikini with the caption reading 'Stop Calling Me Fat!' More from SheKnows Reese Witherspoon's Cutesy Pet Name for Her BF Shows This Romance Is Completely Different Than Others 'I was having the time of my life. I had made up the dumbest song about eating snacks and playing in the ocean, and I was singing it to my boyfriend out loud, doing some weird dance move, and they got the picture and then it was on the cover,' Hewitt remembered. 'I don't think I was ever really insecure until that cover.' She added, 'And then when it happened, I don't know that I've ever recovered from it. Because there's a part of me that's always like, 'Is this version going to be good enough, or is that going to happen again?' Where somebody's going to be like, 'Hey, this is her without makeup at the cleaners. She looks 59.' I think that's why the insecurity carried on. I don't know if I've even ever put that together for myself other than right now.' Hewitt has always been gorgeous, and we hate that she had to deal with such intrusive headlines throughout the years. But in recent years, she's learned to laugh off the criticism, especially from haters who claim she's changed her face or body. Back in 2022, Hewitt posted a beautiful no-filtered, no-makeup selfie on her Instagram. She captioned it, talking about all the criticism: 'I posted this pic earlier and have heard a lot of positive thoughts. It means so much to me because aging is weird. And growing up with you guys over 33 years has been amazing, but the filters of it all can be tricky.' She added, 'You can't help but want to look better or even perfect to keep up. They are so fun but they also can be really hard because you can forget to feel good about your real face. Maybe I just need to be better at the balance. Anyway, thanks for letting me share and feel good as just me today. Love to you all.' Haters can stay quiet, and we're happy to know Hewitt has continued to thrive, despite it all (including that 2007 cover shoot).Best of SheKnows Everything We Know About Carolyn Bessette's Life Before JFK JR 29 Times Gisele Bündchen's Red Carpet Fashion Proved She's the Ultimate Supermodel 68 Celebrities Who Share a Famous Ex Solve the daily Crossword
