Oppn criticises Union agri minister over no compensation announcement to rain-affected farmers in Maharashtra
Pune: A day after Union agriculture minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan visited Pune city, the opposition criticised him, claiming that the minister made several announcements but did not announce any compensation for the farmers of the state who faced losses due to recent heavy rain. The state witnessed unusually heavy rain in May, causing damage to crops like onion, bananas and vegetables. While the state govt has assured help to the distressed farmers, members of the opposition said since the Union agriculture minister was in the state, he should have announced some aid. "The agriculture minister spoke about using technology to improve production and to give clean saplings to farmers.
