The star-studded gala dinner on July 8, held in honor of the first official French state visit in 17 years, saw Macron seated between Princess Kate and King Charles. The 47-year-old politician politely helped to pull out the Princess of Wales' chair and waited for her to sit before taking his own seat beside her.
Later, cameras captured Macron winking at Princess Kate during a toast, a moment that was widely circulated on social media in one of the most buzzed-about moments of the evening.
The warm gesture between Princess Kate and President Macron began the moment he and his wife disembarked their flight at RAF Northolt on Tuesday. The Prince and Princess of Wales greeted them on the tarmac, and Macron met Kate with a kiss to her hand.
While the gesture may have raised some eyebrows, it is not actually against royal protocol. The royal family's official website explains that there are no strict codes of conduct for meeting royals.
"There are no obligatory codes of behaviour when meeting The Queen or a member of the Royal Family, but many people wish to observe the traditional forms. For men, this is a neck bow (from the head only) whilst women do a small curtsy. Other people prefer simply to shake hands in the usual way," the website states.
The state banquet seating arrangements saw spouses take their places across from each other at the massive table at Windsor Castle. While King Charles, President Macron and Princess Kate were seated together on one side, Prince William, 43, sat next to Macron's wife, Brigitte, 72, who was flanked on her other side by Queen Camilla, 77.
Other famous faces at the dinner included Mick Jagger, Elton John and his husband David Furnish, Kristin Scott-Thomas and U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
The King's speech toasted the official visit, which was also the first by a European Union political leader since Brexit, with a unique detail about the night's menu.
"This evening, we have drunk English sparkling wine made by a French champagne house. This would have been scarcely believable to at least some of our predecessors," he said.

Macron echoed the need for unity between France and the U.K. in his own toast.
"On either side of the channel, there is a constant reminder that we must never lower our guard," he said.

Tom Holland is 'over the moon' to soon be slinging webs again as everyone's favorite neighborhood Spider-Man, but he's 'so excited' about the next sequel for a particular reason. In a recent interview for 'Flip Your Wig,' Holland explained the new film – the fourth in the MCU series, titled 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' – will be a return to form for the franchise after the Covid-19 pandemic hampered the filmmaking team's abilities with the last entry, 2021's 'Spider-Man: No Way Home.' 'I think we were really restricted with what we could do in the last movie because of Covid. We shot the entire film on stages,' Holland said. 'Now we're really going to lean into that old school filmmaking and shoot in real locations.' He added that one of those locations will be Glasgow, Scotland, where production will soon be starting. 'We are going to use the streets of Glasgow for this massive set piece that we are putting together,' he teased. Holland also said that 'playing Spider-Man is like hanging out with an old pal,' and that filming the next entry is 'going to feel like making 'Spider-Man 1' (2017's 'Spider-Man: Homecoming') again.' The exciting 'carnival on bikes' that is coming to Manchester this summer
A huge bike ride celebrating unity in the Black community is coming to Manchester. The Black Unity Bike Ride, the UK's carnival on bikes, has announced its expansion to the city. The move comes after a new five-year partnership with London Marathon Events (LME) that will see the event held in two new UK cities – Manchester in 2025 and a third ride will be coming to a major UK city in 2026. Manchester's first ever Black Unity Bike Ride will take place on Sunday 17 August (Marcus Garvey's birthday). It will start and finish in Alexander Park in Moss Side and feature a 12-mile ride through the city. You can sign up to ride here. LME has lent its event organisation expertise to BUBR since 2021, working in partnership to help inspire thousands of people onto the bike. Now a new five-year agreement has strengthened this partnership further and helped BUBR plan to create a national movement by expanding into two new cities. The ride in Manchester will come two weeks after the sixth edition of London's Black Unity Bike Ride, on Saturday 2 August. The 17-mile route will again start in Leyton Sports Ground and finish in Dulwich Park. There will be music throughout, pit stops on route and the BUBR Fest will greet riders at the Finish, with more than 13 food vendors, offering a range of different cuisines, as well as an entertainment and a recovery zone for participants. Entry to BUBR Fest is free. BUBR founder Tokunbo Ajasa-Oluwa, said: 'What began as a bold idea on London's streets has grown into a national movement. We are very excited to bring the event to Manchester, it has been an aspiration for a few years so we can't wait until Sunday 17th August. "BUBR has valued London Marathon Events support since 2021 and we are very proud to extend this relationship with a new five-year commitment. The partnership is a true statement of intent when it comes to community, inclusion and inspiring active lives.' The BUBR welcomes people of all abilities and ages to take part. In 2024, 47% of participants were first-timers, and more than 70% of those ranked themselves as either beginner or intermediate level riders. In addition, 48% of participants were inspired to join a cycling club after riding in 2024, with 77% cycling more as a result. LME's partnership with BUBR will include support from across the business including marketing, communications, logistics, finance, data and operational support. LME's mission is to inspire activity for all with a focus on supporting and providing access to participation for people in underserved communities. At last year's London Black Unity Bike Ride, 71% of participants identified as being a beginner or intermediate cyclist while 41% of riders were female. Hamid Vaghefian, LME's Communities and DEI Director, said: 'We are delighted to have formalised our partnership with the Black Unity Bike Ride. "We have proudly supported this incredible, empowering event since 2021 and seen the impact it has made in getting more people from the Black community cycling and enjoying activity. "It is an exciting prospect to be able to support this movement further and to help bring what really is a carnival on bikes to other cities in the UK, starting with Manchester on Sunday 17 August.'
