Rajnath postpones U.S. visit; defence purchases unaffected

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has postponed his visit to the U.S., which was originally scheduled for the last week of August. According to sources, the visit has been deferred — not cancelled, as earlier reported — and is likely to take place within the next couple of months. The development comes against the backdrop of U.S. President Donald Trump's decision to refuse trade talks with India until the tariff issue is resolved, alongside the imposition of 50% import tariffs on Indian goods. Mr. Trump had increased the tariff – originally 25% – to 50%, citing India's imports of crude oil from Russia, which is facing sanctions over its war with Ukraine. U.S.'s invite On July 1, U.S. Secretary of Defence Pete Hegseth held a telephonic conversation with Mr. Singh — their third this year — during which he invited the Defence Minister to the U.S. for an in-person meeting to advance bilateral defence cooperation. 'The two discussed pending major U.S. defence sales to India and the imperative of close defence industrial cooperation between the two countries. Secretary Hegseth and Minister Singh agreed to sign the next 10-year U.S.-India Defence Framework when they next meet this year,' the U.S. Embassy and Consulates in India said in a statement following the July 1 call. The statement also highlighted that Secretary Hegseth had emphasised the priority the U.S. places on India as its key defence partner in South Asia. Fabricated, say officials Meanwhile, sources in the Ministry of Defence have rejected reports suggesting that India has paused talks on major defence purchases from the U.S. in response to the imposition of the tariff. 'The news reports on India pausing talks related to defence purchases with the U.S. are false and fabricated. Various procurement cases are being progressed as per extant procedures,' defence officials clarified. Sources further said that defence supplies from the U.S. continue to arrive under existing contracts, with no pause to orders currently in the pipeline.

Bad news for Pakistan as India readies advanced radar system which can detect and shoot Pakistani drones in seconds, they are deadly because…

New Delhi: Taking a note from from recent conflicts like Russia-Ukraine, Israel-Hamas, and India's own Operation Sindoor, the Indian Army is upgrading its air defence systems to counter evolving aerial threats, especially low-flying drones, which became a significant threat for India during the recent conflict with Pakistan. In the recent update, the Ministry of Defence has issued an RFI for Air Defense Fire Control Radar – Drone Detector (ADFCR-DD) systems. Here are all the details about (ADFCR-DD) systems and how they will be used against Pakistani drones. Why Indian Army requires good radar systems? Modern threats such as electric drones and drone swarms, with low radar and infrared signatures, are harder to detect than traditional aircraft. During Operation Sindoor, Pakistan used drones for both surveillance and attacks, highlighting the need for more advanced detection and neutralisation capabilities. How Army will use radar systems against Pakistan? With the use of Air Defense Fire Control Radar – Drone Detector (ADFCR-DD) systems, Indian Army can detect the Pakistani drones which have very low radar and infrared (IR) signatures, making them difficult to detect. The radar system can be used for detecting, tracking, identifying and neutralising modern aerial threats ranging from fighter aircraft, helicopters to low radar cross section (RCS) drones and swarm systems. Defence Ministry gives nod to beef up Armed forces In another significant development, the Defence Acquisition Council, under the chairmanship of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh recently approved various proposals for buying military hardware at a total cost of about Rs 67,000 crore, as per a report carried by news agency IANS. Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) was accorded for the procurement of Thermal Imager-based Driver Night Sight for the Indian Army's BMP fleet. This will enhance the night driving capability of BMPs and provide higher mobility and operational advantage to the Mechanised Infantry, according to an official statement. Ravichandran Ashwin may not don CSK jersey next year When R. Ashwin was bought by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for ₹9.75 crore last year, many hoped that the homecoming of the city's prodigious cricketer could revive some old magic from their first association between 2008 and 2015. Ashwin was part of CSK's twin IPL and Champions League T20 titles during his first stint. However, the five-time champion had a miserable run in this year's IPL and finished last with just four wins. Now, as the IPL teams finalise their plans for the next season, there is a good chance that Ashwin might not don the yellow jersey next year. The former India off-spinner featured in only nine matches this year and took seven wickets at an economy rate of 9.42. It is now understood that Ashwin and the franchise had some discussions about his role, and the off-spinner could explore new avenues, with a few other franchises already expressing interest in his services.
