Excerpts
Q: How do you feel about becoming the costliest buy at the UPT20 auction? Any pressure?
A: Obviously, it always feels great. Whether it's a domestic game or a local club match, the expectation to deliver is always there. I think my IPL experience will really help me in UPT20.
Q: Do you think you should have got more opportunities in the IPL?
A: That's not my call at all. It's entirely the team's decision, whether they want to play two spinners or just one.
I'm always ready to play.
Q: How do you see UPT20 as a platform to boost your career?
A: Not just for me, it's a great opportunity for many budding players to showcase their talent and impress the selectors.
Q:
has, for the first time, allowed Railways players with UP domicile to participate in the UPT20 League. What's your take on that?
A: I'm thankful to the BCCI and UPCA for giving me the chance to enter the auction and now play in the tournament.
Players from UP also represent other states, so these kinds of decisions are always good for the players.
Q: How useful is the UPT20 League for upcoming players in the state? We've seen players like Vipraj Zeeshan and Sameer rise from it.
A: It's not just the UPT20 League that helped them, their strong performances in the domestic season, in my view, were the real reason they got calls from IPL franchises. And they delivered well when the opportunity came.

Q: There's intense competition for a place in Team India. How are you preparing for a potential comeback?
A: My preparation is the same as it was when I played for India in 2014–15. Whether I get to play or not, I want to give my best whenever the opportunity comes. I always focus on three things: performance, preparation, and process — because selection is not in my hands.

‘Shubman Gill needs an attitude adjustment': Brad Haddin says India captain responsible for improving fielding standards

India's new Test captain Shubman Gill will be held responsible for raising the fielding standards of his side following the horror show against England in the first Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy match in Headingley, according to former Australia wicket-keeper Brad Haddin. The visitors dropped eight catches across two innings in an eventual five-wicket defeat. Despite impressive batting performances in both innings, India were made to pay for the blunders on the field behind a profligate pace attack that struggled to assist spearhead Jasprit Bumrah. Chasing down a venue record total of 371, their second-highest chase ever, England were led by Ben Duckett's scintillating 149 in the fourth innings. The southpaw opener was dropped in both innings of the match, while tallying 211 runs and was later adjudged the Player of the Match. Speaking on the Willow Talk podcast, former Australia wicket-keeper Haddin felt the Indian skipper needed to lay down the marker for his side to follow in terms of being a dominant team on the field. 'Every great team, no matter what year you're playing, the one standout feature they've always had is that they've been a great fielding team. And I think that is one legacy Gill has start to leave now on this team. He needs an attitude adjustment,' said Haddin. 'If you want to field well and compete the whole time, it's only attitude. You can do all your technical work off the field and have as many coaches as anyone, but it won't matter. Even in the IPL this year, the catching was horrible. And that could be a byproduct,' he added. Haddin added that India's transitioning Test side is heavily reliant on the top-order for runs this series, after two brittle collapses hurt the side from comfortable positions in the Test. India went from 430 for three to 471 all out in the first innings, while adding only 31 runs for six wickets in their second essay to set the target. 'What hasn't happened for the first time is India's batting collapse. There's a lot of pressure on that top order. If you get through them, they will run through the remaining,' said Haddin.

Bengaluru to get new stadium with 60,000 seating capacity, says DK Shivakumar. More details

In a significant development following the tragic stampede at Bengaluru's iconic Chinnaswamy Stadium earlier this month, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar on Friday announced plans for a brand new stadium in the city. The upcoming venue, which will seat 60,000 people, is aimed at easing congestion and improving crowd management during major public events. Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar. 'We have finalised land for a new stadium in Bengaluru. The proposed capacity is 60,000 seats. More information will be shared shortly,' he said, speaking to reporters. This move comes in the wake of a deadly stampede during Royal Challengers Bengaluru's IPL victory celebration on June 4 near Chinnaswamy Stadium, which claimed the lives of 11 people and left several others injured. The incident sparked outrage across the state and prompted strong criticism of the authorities for inadequate crowd control. Chinnaswamy Stadium, located in the heart of the city, has long been a bottleneck during cricket matches and large-scale public events. With a capacity of around 35,000, the stadium was overwhelmed on June 4 when more than three lakh fans reportedly gathered in and around the venue, far exceeding official crowd estimates and police preparedness. The resulting chaos led to a deadly crush and a political storm over administrative lapses. He had hinted at plans to relocate the cricket stadium to a more accessible and less crowded location. 'The government will examine options for shifting the stadium. Such a tragedy should never happen again. It has deeply pained me,' he said after the incident. To prevent such disasters in the future, the state government has also undertaken disciplinary action. Several senior police officials, including the Bengaluru Police Commissioner, were suspended, a move that has drawn both public and political scrutiny. As part of a broader ₹ 1 lakh crore investment in Bengaluru's infrastructure, the new stadium will be built alongside projects such as flyovers and tunnel roads. 'Kempegowda envisioned a world-class Bengaluru. With his vision as our inspiration, we are committed to making this city better,' Shivakumar added.
