Madeleine McCann suspect ‘told police decisive questions can never be answered'
The prime suspect in the disappearance of Madeleine McCann sent a letter to police saying 'decisive questions can never be answered', according to reports.
Christian Brueckner, who is in prison for raping a 72-year-old woman in Praia da Luz in 2005, reportedly sent a letter to officers saying questions which would implicate him in the case of the three-year-old British girl, who vanished from the same resort 18 years ago, cannot be answered.
In the note, seen and translated by The Sun newspaper, Brueckner reportedly wrote: 'It is the important questions, the decisive questions that can never be answered.
'Was I or my vehicle clearly seen near the crime scene on the night of the crime?
'Is there DNA evidence of me at the crime scene? Are there DNA traces of the injured party in my vehicle?
'Are there other traces/DNA carriers of the injured party in my possession? Photos?
'And, don't forget, is there a body/corpse? All no, no no.'
It is not clear when the letter was written.
Brueckner spent time in the Praia de Luz area between 2000 and 2017 and had photographs and videos of himself near a reservoir.
It comes as German and Portuguese investigators finished three days of searching a 120-acre stretch of land near Lagos, Portugal, on Thursday as part of attempts to source evidence to implicate Brueckner.
In the searches, requested by German authorities, crews spent three days scouring scrubland and abandoned structures.
Brueckner is due to be released from jail in September if no further charges are brought.
In October last year, he was cleared by a German court of unrelated sexual offences, alleged to have taken place in Portugal between 2000 and 2017.

No explanation has been given as to why he might have been naked, although police have not yet confirmed he had no clothes on. Police said the Monks' disappearance, meanwhile, was reported to the Guarda Nacional Republicana on May 28 at around 8pm by a man who was on holiday with him. Greg, from Glasgow, had gone out drinking at bars in the raucous Albufeira strip after flying to the resort hours earlier with friends for a stag do. Greg's sister had urged residents in the area to check home cameras and doorbell footage between 2am and 5am on Wednesday, May 28 after it emerged the last sighting of him had been in the hill area dotted with large villas. A Portuguese police source revealed the CCTV supplied by the local homeowner had proved vital in the case. The Policia Judiciaria said the body, found on Wednesday, was located in the Cerro de Aguia area. The police insider said today: 'The GNR police force had requested help from the Polícia Judiciaria force which confirmed yesterday the missing man's body had been found. They then got given CCTV from one of the villas in the Cerro da Aguia areas which enabled them to trace him jumping over a wall of a neighbouring property. 'With that information the searches were immediately moved to the scrubland below the houses. Sniffer dogs that were being used by the GNR were brought in again. When the dogs were put to work in the area, around 11am, they went straight to a bush where the missing man's body was laying.' Madeleine McCann police 'found something they were looking for' says detective
A detective who was brought in to help find Madeleine McCann, has said he is "convinced" that German police have found important evidence Daniel Krugel, a South African private investigator who aided the McCann family in the search for their daughter Madeleine in 2007, has expressed confidence that German authorities have unearthed "important key evidence". Police and firefighters recently wrapped up three days of searching scrubland and abandoned buildings in Portugal, as part of a £300,000 operation into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann in 2007. Officers were seen holding pitchforks as they scoured land on the outskirts of the Algarve town of Lagos on Thursday, June 5. Chainsaws, diggers and a ground-penetrating radar were also utilised. Speaking to The Olive Press, Daniel shared his optimism: "I'm so happy they've finally been searching in the right place and looking at their body language. "I'm quite convinced they found something they were looking for. They only looked in three specific areas with 30 people brought in from Germany and it seemed they stopped suddenly early." Even though neither Portuguese nor German police have made an official announcement, there have been reports by local media of the discovery of clothing and animal bones during the recent search efforts. The meticulous search focused on several ruins situated near the Ocean Club resort in Praia da Luz, famously known as the last place Madeleine was seen before her disappearance on May 3, 2007. A source revealed to the publication that no statements would be released for some time as numerous bags of material have been sent to Germany for detailed examination, reports the Express. Gerry McCann employed Mr Krugel in June 2007, whereupon he flew from South Africa and conducted tests using hairs belonging to Madeleine. Mr Krugel recounted: "Over four days and four nights, on eight separate readings, I pointed to the area where detectives have been searching close to Praia da Luz. "They are in the right area. That's what I've said since the beginning, which was in 2007, that the signal was static, wherever she was, she was not moving. "I used that as a centre point and what I explained to the police is to use a centre point and then you make the 360 turn bigger and bigger. "I'm so excited the Germans are at the right spot. I'm very at ease that things will now go to an end. This is all I was waiting for. Justice for Madeleine. That's all I want." Investigators, who came from both Germany and Portugal, congratulated and embraced each other at the conclusion of the searches in Atalaia, which saw samples of potential evidence taken. Those involved carried out a debrief before leaving the area, with a round of applause before a crate of German beer was produced from the base tent. The blustery conditions meant they struggled to dismantle some of their tents. British police officers were not involved in these searches, the Metropolitan Police confirmed. Brit backpacker faces 20 years in jail for 'killing man in e-scooter crash'
A British backpacker faces up to 20 years in jail in Australia after being charged with killing a pedestrian in an e-scooter crash. Alicia Kemp, 24, is said to have spent six hours drinking before ploughing into the back of 51-year-old Thanh Phan on a footpath in Perth's central business district on May 3. Mr Phan died in hospital from brain injuries suffered in the collision. Kemp's passenger, a 26-year-old woman, suffered a fractured skull and broken nose when she was thrown from the scooter. Kemp was denied bail when she appeared in court in the city charged with dangerous driving occasioning bodily harm and dangerous driving occasioning death. Her application was refused after prosecutors told the magistrate the risk of her fleeing in the face of a 20-year maximum sentence was too great, the Sydney Morning Herald reports. Mr Phan's family paid tribute to a 'beloved husband, father of two, brother, and dear friend'. They also called for a review of e-scooter hire regulations 'to help prevent further serious incidents that put lives at risk'. Kemp had been out drinking with a friend from 2.30pm on the day of the crash, the court heard. After her friend was asked to leave for being too drunk, they were said to have walked along Murray Street and hired an e-scooter just before 8.30pm. More Trending Kemp's 'inexplicably dangerous' riding was caught on CCTV, the prosecutor said, with other pedestrians having to get out of their way to avoid being hit. She was travelling at up to 25kph at the time of the collision, hitting Mr Phan while he was waiting to cross the road, the court heard. Kemp is next due in court on July 15.
