Yahoo4 days ago
UK's business advisory and accountancy firms Menzies Beever and Struthers have announced their merger, resulting in a new national accountancy firm.
The newly created firm will have a total fee income of £110m ($146m) and a workforce of more than 1,000 professionals.
This merger combines two independent firms with significant histories in their markets; Menzies is based in London, while Beever and Struthers operates from Manchester.
Beever and Struthers executive partner Caroline Monk said: 'In a market where consolidation is often driven by private equity, this merger stands apart.
'It is rooted in shared independence, cultural alignment, and a mutual commitment to delivering lasting value and service excellence.'
The merger expands the geographical footprint of the new firm, which will now have offices in London, Manchester, Birmingham, Cardiff, and various locations in the South East, thereby increasing its regional presence.
Menzies expects this merger to enhance its capabilities as a full-service firm, and will incorporate Beever and Struthers' expertise in the not-for-profit, education, and social housing sectors.
Established in 1912, Menzies provides a wide range of accountancy and advisory services. These include audit, tax, accounts advisory, financial planning, and transaction support. The firm serves a varied client base, from emerging businesses, to large corporations and high-net-worth individuals.
Beever and Struthers specialises in audit, assurance, and strategic advisory services, focusing on housing providers, public sector organisations, educational institutions, and social enterprises across the UK.
Menzies managing partner Simon Massey said: 'The merger with Beever and Struthers is a defining moment for Menzies. Their reputation in the not-for-profit, education, and social housing sectors is unmatched.
'This merger enables us to scale with purpose, deepen our sector specialisms, and continue investing in our people, clients, and future growth. Together, we're building a truly national firm that stands out for quality, expertise, and trusted relationships.'

Nunez leaves Liverpool to join Saudi's Al-Hilal

Liverpool sold striker Darwin Nunez to Saudi side Al-Hilal, both clubs confirmed on Saturday, in a move that could allow the Premier League champions to make a fresh bid for Newcastle's Alexander Isak. Nunez joined the Reds for an initial 75 million euros ($87 million, £65 million) from Benfica three years ago but has failed to live up to that price tag. The Uruguayan scored 40 goals in 143 appearances but slipped down the pecking order at Anfield under both Jurgen Klopp and Arne Slot. According to reports in the British media, Al-Hilal will pay an initial 53 million euros for the 26-year-old. "Al-Hilal Club Company is pleased to announce the signing of Uruguayan striker Darwin Nunez from Liverpool FC on a three-year contract," Al-Hilal said in a statement. Nunez was likely to play even less this season after Liverpool signed Hugo Ekitike and Florian Wirtz as part of a 300 million euro spending spree that also includes full-backs Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong. However, the club could still break the British transfer record by signing Isak. Liverpool reportedly had a first bid of £110 million rejected, with Newcastle demanding a fee of up to £150 million for the Swedish striker. The sale of Nunez would take Liverpool's income for transfer sales this window to nearly 200 million euros after the departures of Luis Diaz, Jarell Quansah, Caoimhin Kelleher, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Tyler Morton. Nunez is the latest big name to join Al-Hilal, who shocked Manchester City to reach the quarter-finals of the recent Club World Cup. Coached by former Inter Milan boss Simone Inzaghi, the Saudi club's squad includes Portuguese internationals Ruben Neves and Joao Cancelo, Senegal captain Kalidou Koulibaly and former Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic. kca/jc

What convinced Man Utd to spend £74m on Benjamin Sesko transfer

Man Utd have committed a whopping £74 million to sign Benjamin Sesko, who they are hoping will be the team's star striker for the next five years at least. The deal sees them pay an initial transfer fee of £66.26m (€76.5m), plus a potential £7.36m (€8.5m) in performance-related add-ons. That's a huge figure for a forward is just 22 years of age and has played only two seasons in one of Europe's top five leagues. So why were the Red Devils so willing to part with such a large sum of money? What convinced Man Utd to spend £74m on Sesko transfer Man Utd themselves say their data analysis and research helped them conclude that Sesko has 'the required qualities and personality to thrive' at Old Trafford. Indeed, The Athletic report that their scouting dates back seven years, so they had a ton of data and reports to rely on. In their statement announcing his arrival, they point out he scored 39 goals for Leipzig, the most of any player under the age of 23 over the past two seasons. It's a nice stat, but the underlying numbers don't make for great reading. In the Champions League and Bundesliga he scored 33 goals from just 21.7 non-penalty expected goals (npxG), according to FBref. That means he scored 11.3 goals more than 'expected' by the data, a huge overperformance that no one should expect to continue. This follows the trend of their transfer business when it comes to attacking signings this summer. Both Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha were number one and two respectively on the list of biggest npxG overperformers in the Premier League last season. This is generally the opposite of what smart clubs look for when judging potential future performance; Liverpool, for instance, almost always acquire forwards who had underperformed relative to their xG, like Mo Salah for example. They are betting on the possibility of that correcting itself, while Man Utd are simply hoping that their newcomers are awesome finishers who will continue delivering at the same rate. It seems more likely, from this writer's point of view, that Sesko's physical traits were far more important in their decision to sign him than his numbers. The Slovenia international is, as a Proper Football Man might put it, a Big Lad. But he's also quick and willing to run himself into the ground for the team. Read – Ruben Amorim evidently loves this about him, as well as his workrate. 'He is really young, he's good in the air, he's good running the channels, he's good on the ball. So I think he has a great potential,' the manager said. Man Utd director of football Jason Wilcox went even further, commenting that Sesko 'possesses a rare combination of electrifying pace and the ability to physically dominate defenders, making him one of the most exceptional young talents in world football'. Will those characteristics translate into the goals that Man Utd need to make them a relevant force again? Only time will tell.
