
Omaze winner puts £4million mansion on the market after just four months
A £4 million Highland home that was won in an Omaze draw by an 81-year-old widow has been put up for sale less than four months later.
Patricia Moule, from Southampton, won the property on the banks of Loch Rannoch, Perthshire, after it was raffled in April. The widow described the house as 'breathtaking', adding: 'The scenery is spectacular, I've never seen anything so beautiful in all my life.' However, she did not reveal her plans for her new property, which comes with a private jetty and tennis court. Now, it has gone on the market with Knight Frank for offers over £3.975 million.
The property comes with five bedrooms, five bathrooms, three reception rooms, a factor's cottage, a steading with garaging and workshop, a summer house, and formal gardens with an orchard and lawns. It has about 1km of frontage to Loch Rannoch, along with a stone jetty and a slipway.
Knight Frank describes the property as 'an exquisite, contemporary house finished to the highest standard'. The Omaze draw was backed by Succession actor Brian Cox, as it helped to raise money for Alzheimer's Research UK.
Omaze president James Oakes said at the time: 'The eventual winner is free to decide what they want to do with the house. They can move in and not have to worry about any immediate costs, thanks to the £250,000 settling-in money. They can rent it out for additional income or they can sell up and cash in.'
Kight Frank say of the property: 'Carie is the historic seat of Clan Robertson of Struan, whose Chiefs lived at Carie House and owned much of the land along the southern shore of Loch Rannoch. The Chief supported Bonnie Prince Charlie during the 1745 Jacobite Rising. After the defeat at Culloden, the Prince hid nearby on Ben Alder. The Chief remained a symbol of resistance and was so respected that government commissioners avoided Carie until his death. During his funeral procession, they moved in, diverted the Carie Burn, built a sawmill, and neglected Carie House, which later burned down.
'Carie is accessed via a private tree-lined drive along the Carie Burn, leading to a gravelled approach through the Steading and hay barn. Completed in 2014, the house offers over 8,870 ft² of open-plan accommodation with spectacular views over Loch Rannoch and the Southern Rannoch Mountains. Built to an exceptional standard, the home is arranged around a cobbled courtyard and includes a conjoined two-storey stone cottage. The Omaze mansion is the latest to be put on the market by the winner. A £3 million pad in Wirral, Merseyside, with spectacular coastal views, a cinema room, and a heated outdoor swimming pool, was won by Lauren Keene in December and put up for sale for a cut price £2.5m.
In January it emerged Tom Steenson, 63, put his luxury mansion with sea views in Exmouth on the market for £2.35 million. In April a couple who bagged a £3million mansion in Cornwall put the property back on the market for £4million just weeks later..
Widow June Smith also put the luxury £4.5million Cornish mansion she won in 2023 up for sale so that she could help her children and grandchildren 'with the next chapter in their lives'.

Fiona Phillips has opened up about the debilitating impact of her Alzheimer's as her husband reflected on his wish for her to have 'cancer instead'. The TV presenter, 64, has been candid about her experience with the memory disease since revealing her diagnosis in July 2023. Two years on, Phillips and her husband of 28 years, Martin Frizell, 65, have shared the ins and outs of their life now (and how much it has transformed) in a new memoir, Remember When: My Life with Alzheimer's. Frizell offered a 'brutally honest' admission, explaining that he wished she had been diagnosed with cancer instead, in an excerpt included in the Daily Mail. He added: 'It's a shocking thing to say, but at least then she might have had a chance of a cure, and certainly would have had a treatment pathway and an array of support and care packages. 'But that's not there for Alzheimer's. Just like there are no funny or inspiring TikTok videos or fashion shoots with smiling, healthy, in-remission survivors,' he reflected, adding that post-diagnosis you are just 'left to cope alone'. Frizell has now taken on the responsibility of day-to-day life from paying bills to household chores which he used to 'take for granted' and brought on board a trained carer to help alleviate some of the intensity from him and their 23-year-old son MacKenzie. He explained that as of January 2025, he helps Phillips 'brush her teeth and shower' and dress herself. As well as eating and drinking. There have been days when she has demanded to see her late parents in moments of 'extreme confusion',, Frizell shared. Elsewhere in the book, the former GMTV host also shared her own perspective on her deterioration and the difficulties she has faced in accepting it. She admitted that she finds discussing her life now 'agonisingly difficult'. 'Sometimes I get halfway through a sentence and I can't remember where I was heading with it or the word I was looking for. The couple decided to start telling their friends and family about her Alzheimer's to explain any 'unusual behaviour', something Phillips hadn't thought she did. Early-onset Alzheimer's is also known as young-onset dementia or younger-onset Alzheimer's. It is the label given to anyone who receives a diagnosis before they turn 65. According to Alzheimer's Research UK, an estimated 70,800 people with dementia in the UK have young onset, and Alzheimer's disease accounts for around one in three cases of young onset dementia. It is thought at least five in every 100 people with Alzheimer's are under 65, however the figure may be higher. According to the NHS, the symptoms of Alzheimer's can begin with usually minor memory problems, but can develop into: confusion, disorientation and getting lost in familiar places difficulty planning or making decisions problems with speech and language problems moving around without assistance or performing self-care tasks personality changes, such as becoming aggressive, demanding and suspicious of others hallucinations (seeing or hearing things that are not there) and delusions (believing things that are untrue) low mood or anxiety 'But he and the doctors, who I was constantly backwards and forwards to see, would say that I kept repeating myself and that sometimes I forgot what I was doing or where I was going. 'The strange thing was I had no awareness of that,' she said. In November 2024, Frizell announced he was stepping down as editor of ITV's This Morning after more than a decade in order to support in wife. Raducanu justifies primetime billing even as Sabalenka's superpower wins out
It's a little after 8pm by the time the first ball is tossed. Karen Khachanov has just beaten Nuno Borges on No 3 Court and so even before it has started Emma Raducanu v Aryna Sabalenka is the last game on anywhere at Wimbledon: a standalone attraction, the roof not so much closed as hermetically sealed. We are locked in, under these hot lights, until nightfall. And of course this is not simply a third-round game. At the behest of the broadcasters this is also a primetime television product, an item of light entertainment. Raducanu isn't just battling the world No 1 here, she's up against Gardeners' World on BBC Two. The hill is packed. Brian Cox and Mary Berry in the Royal Box are transfixed. And to think Roland Garros would probably have put this match on in mid-morning. But something about Raducanu in primetime still feels a touch incongruous, and not only because of her world ranking of 45. For this is not instinctively a player you associate with edge-of-the-seat drama or vintage comebacks. Usually Raducanu wins in a hurry and loses in a hurry. She has never won a third set at Wimbledon. So in a way, for all she has achieved, this is a player still awaiting her big homecoming, her Centre Court splash. None of which, of course, has stopped people from trying to confect drama around her. Sonay Kartal's progress to the fourth round has been met with a deluge of Raducanu-themed headlines. 'Kartal steps out of Raducanu's shadow', 'Raducanu's old rival', 'overtakes Raducanu in the rankings', and so on. Cameron Norrie has just been asked in his press conference whether he is dating Raducanu. One stalker has already been banned from the grounds, but others, it seems, are still walking around with lanyards around their necks. On Wednesday after beating Marketa Vondrousova she described a moment when her fug of concentration lifted for a second and the scale of it all suddenly hit her all at once – the crowd, the court, the occasion, what it all would mean – and briefly forgot how she was going to hit the ball. What must it feel like to live in this glare, to sense that tremendous rumbling noise every time you walk to practice or log on to the internet, to stay sane and competent in a world where the walls are constantly trying to collapse in on you? Perhaps Raducanu's real achievement has been simply to function, to build herself a palace of the mind strong enough to allow her not just to work but to thrive. To know that you're the last game of the day, and know why, and yet still to put in your greatest ever Wimbledon performance and your best against a top-10 player. To face down everything else out there and still have the strength to face down the most ferocious hitter in the game. And though it was a straight-sets defeat, there was enough here to show the rest of us what she had always believed herself. She saves seven set points in a remarkable 10th game as Sabalenka tries to pummel her to bits. She breaks, is broken courtesy of a slip and a lethal net cord, loses a heartbreakingly tight breaker. She's elusive, courageous, clever. It's past 9pm and Raducanu is now competing with Celebrity Gogglebox and Not Going Out, which has been moved to BBC Two. But of course Sabalenka, too, has added levels to her game. She serves more consistently, gets more revs on her ground strokes, drops more, comes to the net more, thinks her way through matches better. Above all she possesses what has always been Raducanu's superpower: the ability to intuit the momentum shift before it happens, to find the point of weakness that can upend the match entirely. Facing points for a 5-1 double break, she finds big first serves, finds the corners, wins five games in a row for the match. Occasionally very smart and very brave people on the internet like to argue that Raducanu is basically some manufactured confidence trick, that it's somehow possible to win a US Open by dumb fluke. But then along come matches such as this to remind us: actually, no. Emma Raducanu gets a lot of hype because Emma Raducanu is capable of playing a frighteningly high level of tennis. The only question worth asking is how she can unlock it more frequently. It's beyond 10pm. The news has been pushed back and Raducanu is now competing with First Dates on Channel 4. She should be pleased, she should be proud, but as she departs she looks crestfallen. And of course it should hurt to come this close, to get so many opportunities and ultimately to fall short. But when the dust settles she will know that she truly belongs in this company: a primetime performer for a primetime slot.

Home buyer mortgage demand expected by lenders to soften over summer months
Mortgage demand from home buyers is expected to soften over the summer, according to a Bank of England survey of lenders. Lenders reported that demand for mortgages for house purchase had increased in the past few months. But demand is expected to decrease over the three months to the end of August. Re-mortgaging demand also increased in the past few months and was expected to increase in the next few months. The Bank of England's Credit Conditions Survey is carried out each quarter, as part of its role in maintaining financial stability. The report reflects the overall views of the banks and building societies surveyed, and does not necessarily reflect the Bank of England's own views. Lenders were surveyed between May 27 and June 13 for the latest report. They were asked to report changes in the three months to the end of May, relative to the period between December and February, and expected changes in the three months to August. Any impact from more recent developments is not captured in the survey. Home buying costs became more expensive for some buyers from April, as stamp duty discounts became less generous. Stamp duty applies in England and Northern Ireland. Recent HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) figures have shown that house sales picked up in May, following a plunge in April as the stamp duty holiday ended. HMRC's report said sales were likely brought forward into March to take advantage of the higher stamp duty thresholds. Simon Gammon, managing partner, Knight Frank Finance, said: 'Lenders expect demand for home purchase mortgages to soften through the summer – a seasonal trend, but also a reflection of where mortgage rates were when the survey was taken in late May and early June. 'At that point, the best fixed-rate pricing had plateaued just below 4%, and with swap rates edging higher due to hotter-than-expected inflation data, there appeared little scope for further easing. 'That picture has shifted. We're now seeing signs of a weakening labour market, and the Bank of England's tone has changed – there's more focus on downside risks to growth than inflation.' He said that had helped to drive mortgage rate cuts by major lenders over the past 10 days 'often by as much as 0.2 percentage points'. Mr Gammon added: 'While further reductions will be marginal, this could support mortgage activity over the summer and tee up a much busier autumn. 'The remortgaging market remains more robust.' The Bank of England report also said that mortgage availability is expected to increase over the three months to end of August. The availability of non-mortgage credit to households is also expected to increase. Lenders reported that the length of interest-free periods on credit cards for balance transfers and for purchases both increased in the past three months, and were expected to be unchanged in the next few months. Demand for corporate lending from small and medium-sized businesses had slightly increased in the past few months, while demand from big firms had been unchanged. Banks and building societies said demand for corporate lending in the next three months was expected to increase slightly for small and big business, but was expected to be unchanged for medium-sized businesses. Lenders reported that default rates on mortgage loans to households were unchanged in the past few months, and were expected to remain unchanged in the next few months. Defaults for credit cards and other household loans were also expected to be unchanged in the next few months. Lenders said default rates on loans to businesses were unchanged for small, medium and large businesses in the past few months and were expected to remain unchanged in the next few months. Overall credit availability to the corporate sector is expected to slightly increase in the next few months. Karim Haji, global and UK head of financial services at KPMG, said households are adjusting to 'ongoing cost pressures'. He said the stability in default rates 'reflects a degree of resilience'. Mr Haji added: 'As we move into the second half of the year, cautious optimism is warranted but lenders must remain alert to changes in affordability and borrower behaviour.'
